In my service I have seen so many cases of appendicectomies done by postgraduates ( junior and senior pgs), assistants, associate prof and professors in our institute. I have not seen any case of direct inguinal hernia. And I have seen so many direct inguinal hernias came to our institute to undergo surgery, but none of them were occured due to previous appendicectomy. When I was going through one old operative surgery book published in 1954, external, internal, transverse abdominis muscles all are cut (muscle cutting incision). Probably in those days they might have seen direct inguinal hernia developing secondary to appendicectomy. Kindly correct me if I am wrong.

*muscle cutting incision for appendicectomy.
Now we are doing muscle splitting incision. We are not doing muscle cutting incision.
