It was a directing decision for sure because edgy was the hip thing for movies at the time especially, but even OG comic Peter Parker went through some messed up stuff. It's not too much of a stretch to think that some version of Peter let those things affect him a lot more. Plus he's still a major dork as always. I don't care what people say, Andrew's TASM2 suit and the Tom's Integrated Suit are the best. Tobey's suit is a perfectly aged classic.
