i hate when people say that young people don't appreciate music anymore. it's a terrible generalization. i'm 15 and barbra, bernadette peters, stephen sondheim, and bette midler are only a FEW of my idols(:
Watching this and reading the comments, I think we tend to forget that Funny Girl was a biography; Barbra was playing Fanny Brice, a real person/performer and she really really nailed it, but ultimately (and brilliantly) put her own personality and style into it. As said a million times before, until this day there has never been a more auspicious film debut by anyone in American film history.
She is so wonderful..I saw this movie when I was 11 and am 23 and I can't help but love her still. This movie was-and is one of the best hands down for all time.
When I see this,I think how true became this score, she really is the greatest star, even when there are some around us,they dont agree.doesnt matter she can proof it,nobody broke so many records,so many awards and so many standing ovation, like her.pure magic, simply heavenly
I love her! This is my favourite song of hers!!!! before she gets all perfect and everything.... just the power and expression and everything in this vid. it reminds me of how i feel when i sing at home by myself. except i havent got even an ounce of her talent, i may be able to sing, but not like her. i wish tho!!!
Oh My...Seeing this, I go back to my teen years when I first saw this film, many years after it was made.. Thank you Very Much for posting. Great memories!
What's really funny is the fact that people didn't think she would be any good. They thought she was to ugly to play this role, and they actually wanted her to have surgery to change her "American beauty nose". I'm listening to this, and I can't help but think that she really felt connected to Franny Bryce
@charisandmargot Not everyone has the same taste and no matter what their taste is they're allowed to express it. I personally love Barbra to pieces and Funny Girl is one of my all time favorite movies. I don't understand how people can NOT love Barbra, but I appreciate their honesty and respect their opinion and if they want to they are entitled to click the thumbs down button. p.s. I watched some of your videos, you girls have beautiful voices, both of you ;)
@BenedictRoend Oh... 'Don't Rain on my Parade' is from Funny Girl and "Before the Parade Passes By' is from Hello Dolly!... I remember now... I got the parades mixed up :)
@freddyratly ... I think it's GREAT you bought a real live record, don't you pay any attention to what your dad says about that stuff, it's amazing that someone would even want to buy a record these days... keep up the good work! I hope by now, though, you've purchased for yourself an actual record player, they're still made, you just have to know where to get them!
@BenedictRoend I thought that Rain on my Parade comes when she asks the girl to date Horace Vandegilder in Hello Dolly!, and in Funny girl she likes the other guy... whats his face... no offense to the guy :)
She is the greatest star

I bought a Barbra record a couple weeks ago. My dad got mad 'cause we don't have a record player, but I bought it anyway.
The song pretty much speaks for itself:
"I'm the Greatest Star, I am by far"
So true.
I love Barbra :]
She is one of the most talented musicians I've ever witnessed - ever.
It is such a shame that people look down on her.
She's wonderful.

Singers--THIS is how you do breath control and phrasing/interpretation. She inhabits the song--doesn't just sing it.

La logique de ce dvd : sous-titrer les dialogues, mais pas les chansons. Ca reste un super morceau =D

I love Mr. Keeney's reactions whenever Fanny shows up again.

CLASSIC BABS GREAT MOVIE NICKY ARNSTEIN GORGEOUS WATCH WITH MY SON SAW WITH MY MOM AT 9 YRS OLD
Such a vocal range - would have loved to see her and Judy Garland sing together
I'm guessing you've never seen the clip of her and Judy singing "Happy days are here again" its right here on yt
LOL actually right after I said that, I searched them together - - awesome :)
Cheryl Sterrenburg Yea, lol they also did a few other numbers on Judy's variety show, but, "Happy Days" was the most famous piece they did together.
And Judy's show ended a year or so before Funny Girl even opened on Broadway.
@fenolpoke It's not from the same movie, rain on my parade is from Hello Dolly! and this is from Funny Girl. But, they are both sung by Barbra :)
