Doing the exact same thing for the exact reason right now. Customer brought me spark plugs. I threw em in no question asked. When I fired it up I had the whole right head misfire codes and bank 1 cam over retardation. Before my guy backed it out I pulled of the super easy to remove cover and saw what you posted. It looks like the hydraulic tensioner collapsed but I’ll verify that in a couple hours here. I’m doing my timing belt after hours so I’m left alone. Good luck all y’all VW peeps.
imo if theyre going to do an interference engine it should always be a chain, engineers think otherwise I guess. anyways it's for performance, smaller engine, higher compression, more fuel economy, timing belts are -ok- if you change them and watch for the signs of abnormal operation..
@@Dexter_Solid Except that chains don't fair much better, look at the 3.6 and 3.0L GM engines, they have chains (multiple in fact) and fail constantly at nearly same mileage as belts.
@@Dexter_Solid A couple of turds? Do you have ANY idea how many 3.6L and 3.0L engines GM has in their vehicles? BTW Just because I used one example and not EVERY single example for your benefit doesn't make my comment any less valid.
@@kw57rx8dr.9 Actually it does. Lol I can name tons of timing chain based engines that don't suffer chronic failures. Judging the design by the worst examples invalidates your argument immediately. Feel free to google for yourself which is better. Spoilers, no one says belts mmkay?😎

What is the benefit of an interference engine? I know the drawbacks are gigantic~!!!

@@kw57rx8dr.9 They fair TREMENDOUSLY better than belts, and you can't judge them based on a couple of turds.
