Hi I am a candle maker and truly there is so much more to it. It is dangerous to use essential oils, plants and even crayons. Also it is a huge fire hazard to not permanently anchor down the wick. What happens when the wax melts, it can cause the wick to drift off to the side of the vessel , that creates a hot spot that can lead to explosion. Also wooden wicks are dangerous in my opinion. They can spark outside of the candle. I am only posting because it’s a safety thing. I love all of your videos, and appreciate the inspiration of your channel 🌸🙏🌸
We burn all candles in the empty kitchen sink with nothing flammable nearby. Also we got some wax on our glass top stove & it’s very difficult to remove. From now on we use a separate little hot plate to melt wax. Took about four baking soda/soap scrubs to try to get all the wax off.
@@chants_22 soy is typically grown with lots of glyphosate which is a known carcinogen as well as chemical fertilizers. Soy isn't as eco friendly as people think unless it's organically grown.
Tried the technique on thinning the printer paper using the packing tape. Brilliant. So much easier than using the clear tape on the top then wetting and rubbing off the backing. So thank you thank you thank you 😬
'm in love with the 3 color candy cane candle. Photo candle is beautiful, but I don't have a printer...might have to work on that. I love decoupaging, so all is not lost. I have some old hymnal pages, may have to do some of those. Thanks for the video.
A first for me - making candles, recycling holders. Absolutely fascinating. I may not experiment. But a joy to watch this awesome crafter in her glory!! Merry Christmas!!!
Decoupaging is about the only thing I’ve mastered but you managed to teach me something new AGAIN - this time: thinning printed standard paper to napkin weight & texture for a typically lightweight, delicate application. I tell you, Deirdre, you are simply a godsend. Thank you so much! Moi! 🎉
Thank you so much for the idea on the photo candle. The technique on making the paper thinner, I didn’t even think about doing that to put it on a candle. Another great idea would be to put the photo on a battery candle so the light will glow through for many years at Christmas, and can be done with a general picture to keep out all year long!!! Merry Christmas to you and your family, may you have a blessed and safe holiday!!!
I used to make candles all the time when I was a little girl I love to make candles and now they have the smells I just ordered peppermint I love the eucalyptus too love it ALSO if you put peppermint oil on a cotton ball it repels spiders cockroaches bugs mosquitoes all kinds of things you can Google it you'll see but when you put peppermint oil on a cotton ball you need to have little tiny trays or something because it can discolor the surface but that's another subject The smell of the peppermint itself would probably repel any bugs it does repel maps too and flies thank you for the good information I'm going to try this today 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
I love the way you craft. You explain everything so well and you save everything. I do to but my family gets so made at me.Thank You for all you do really enjoy everything you do.Cheryl
It's so hard to think what is my favorite candle but I think it's the one with the picture of your brother or family and the one in the tin candle I also like the red green and white candle a lot
As a candle maker I would caution against using vessels that can burn such as wooden bowls Also, adding other elements into the wax can cause a fire so be sure to include a caution note with your gift
Nice gift ideas. A small tip so that candle does not sink in the middle once it solidifies. Let the candlewax cool down before you pour into final vessel. I learned this little trick from watching a UTube video.
Absolutely love all of them. ❤ I have been decoupaging candles for Hallowe’en and Christmas so glad of some more new ideas. Also have been using old decoupaged jars and LED lights. Thank you so much for your inspiration xx
I like the idea of lights and jars I think they're so pretty I have them for my canine when he goes to sleep 👍🏽 yes he stays in the house he is an excellent watch dog and a good buddy 👍🏽
I suggest pinching the side of your can to make a small spout for pouring. Buy scent made expressly for candles, and do some research on the appropriate wick for the diameter of your candle.
Your candels are awesome. I love all of them, scented and not scented. I just can't do the puns one as I'm allergic to that scent. I've always wondered how to make these kind of decorations onto candels. I've seen some really pretty ones. I epically remember a dried flower one and one with different swirls of colors on them. Now I know thanks to you. I'm going to save this video so that I can make some myself. I have some pretty napkins that I could do this method with !!
We did a project like the photo on candle in college back in mid-70s. But we put clear contact on the front & burnish. Place in warm water with Joy or Dawn. The paper fibers will fall off & the colors are stuck on the contact paper. You don’t have to cover it with clear cote or Modge Podge.
OMGosh Deidre, I have some of that same pot holder in my kitchen right now!!😂 I'm in Texas, and I thought it was so funny to see that you had the same one. What are the odds?🤷🏽♀️ I've had them so long I don't even remember where or when I got them. My set has a square, round and oval one. Also, great tutorial making the candles!👍🏽
Hi! I love your videos and especially this one with candles. I have two questions though if I may. Once you start burning them is the throw ( smell good)? I always wonder how much essential oils to add to make the smell nice and strong. Second question with wooden bowls someone asked me if these are fire safe so I thought I’d ask. Thanks so much! I hope you don’t mind the questions.
Thanks for watching Jann! I find they smell nice with 5 -7 drops in that size candles. I have never had any problems burning any but of course you don't leave unattended
This is a wonderfully inspiring video and I look forward to making some gifts myself, but I think a few of these tips need a bit more research to be safe. I wouldn't recommend using a wooden bowl, or not securing the wick at the bottom. Also please be careful using essential oils! Best to aim for fragrance oils made for candle-making. Thanks for sharing inspiration, though!
I used to make candles and this is a great idea, I’m sure your using a pan that is just for crafting but as a tip, I always added some water to my pan and it really helps to heat the wax up faster.
Love all the candles. I too use up my old candles just like you but the only thing is when the candles cool there is a hole ( of wax) in the center. I cannot work out what I am doing wrong I can see you candles do not have this.
I use high setting and just do it till the wax melts into the paper. Hard to say how long but you will see the picture turn colour so you know its finished. Thanks for watching
Hi, I believe you can safely melt your wax in the microwave. It is quicker and has less chance of it burning. Of course, this cannot be done in a tin can but an old container that is glass will work well. In this case, you can have the heat source (microwave ) in your shop, maybe a thrift store one that is just used for craft projects.
Hello I’m trying to find out what is the best glue stick in what is craft tape where do you find these thank you all these ideas are really nice thank you I would love to make some of these candles for Christmas
Love these candles! My fav is the wooden bowl, it's so down to earth like. I never see wooden bowls around where I live though and I have never seen those wide wicks. Thanks for the show! Merry Christmas

Why are essential oils bad to put in candles?
I use soya wax for my candles as regular wax is a carcinogen
@@chants_22 soy is typically grown with lots of glyphosate which is a known carcinogen as well as chemical fertilizers. Soy isn't as eco friendly as people think unless it's organically grown.
My favourite was the last one with the vintage wrapping paper! Brings back memories.

Love all the candles. I too use up my old candles just like you but the only thing is when the candles cool there is a hole ( of wax) in the center. I cannot work out what I am doing wrong I can see you candles do not have this.
Hmmm I am unsure ? Maybe temp of wax ?
How do u get the unused wax cleaned so well out of the jars?
The wood bowl for sure, but do you need to worry about it catching on fire???
No I have not had a problem at all. Just don't leave it unattended Thank you for watching ! 🤗 Happy Holidays
Did u use low setting for hair dryer? About how long for tissue paper or photo to adhere?
I use high setting and just do it till the wax melts into the paper. Hard to say how long but you will see the picture turn colour so you know its finished. Thanks for watching
I'm not well versed with essential oils. Is there a certain brand that you like more than others?
I am not either ! I don't use alot of them . I just buy them at home sense. Thanks for watching
Could you melt the candles in a microwave and then follow all the instructions?
Yes you probably could I don’t have a microwave though so I always do mine on the stove top
I wouldn’t, it’s more of a fire hazard or you can over cook the wax. I just use an old pot like diedre has done.
Deirde,
Can you actually light the candles that have been decoupaged, or have decals on them?
I have never had problems but you can burn down till you can fit votive in top then you have no worries ❤️

I’ve watched this wonderful video several times. Can the “Snowfakes” candle method also work on a battery candle ?
If the battery candle has a was coating on it , yes you can! If not you can decoupage it on :) Thanks for watching
I'm trying to figure out how to decorate candle holders.
Question: will the tissue paper paper burn as the candle burns
Yes - it burns with the candle!
Love these candles! My fav is the wooden bowl, it's so down to earth like. I never see wooden bowls around where I live though and I have never seen those wide wicks. Thanks for the show! Merry Christmas
The wide wicks you can get on Amazon. Thank you for watching April ! 🤗 Happy Holidays
Can you also use an ink jet printer
Yes you can but some ink jet printer may have the ink run so just test it
I loved the wooden bowl candle. So pretty. ☺️
Are these dripless candles?
Hello! Are you by any chance the sister of Laura at Sew Very Easy? You sound so much alike!!!
No ♥️
Would printing the photo onto tissue paper / napkin work?? Thus eliminate the need to thin out paper??
Yes it certainly!! Just like it did the other candle with the quote on napkin do a photo instead! Thanks for watching Cindy
