- The town battle was a 60 min, unlimited resurrection battle. I was fighting for Midrealm.
I have a GoPro Hero 10 on my helmet and an Insta360 X2 on a sashimono mounted to my back.
Ha! The archer you took out twice (the second time with "They seem unhappy!") is me. Nice shots!
And damn, you got me again!
This is super cool. Its very difficult to find high quality footage of battles, and your commentary was also a high quality addition.

I'm the crossbowman at 13:43 to 14:10 that was kicking their ass :D You were doing great too - I remember you from the bridge battle!
Also - a weapon hit doesn't count as a kill, but you do have to leave the field to have your weapon re-inspected. It's hard to know in the chaos, esp when your bow was down near your hip like that, but it's effectively the same thing in a rez battle.

Great Video. This was my first Pennsic and I was fighting in this battle with Atlantia.

As a new combat archer, I appreciate the commentary. It helps me learn while off the field. I was in my first and only battle to date at Pennsic 49. Archery capture the flag.
I saw you out there and was HOPING I'd find your video. I'm the archer in green with the sallet. I had some serious issues with equipment, too. We're working on that tomorrow to get ready for next year! Yeah, it was kind of damned hard to tell where the walls were often times. Such is the life of a combat archer.

I like the running commentary. It does help people new to the scene. Yes bowman in this game have the deck stacked against them. I really hate how traffic downrange fouls up my (crossbow) shoots but the longer projectile and slower speed means archers get fouled more.
The first time I ever faced combat archery in a melee, it was in the early 1980s, when they were using arrows made from plastic golf tubes with tennis balls taped on the end. Came in slow and wobbly; easy to avoid or knock aside. But now, I get shot frequently (especially since I'm usually out there with a greatsword). It's very frustrating, so to y'all archers I must say: well done!
You did awesome for your first battle, and this is a great video. Some pointers... Modify your demi gauntlet to give you a more consistent and better shelf. Use a higher nocking point, it will reduce the "whale tailing" as the arrow flexes over your gauntlet. Practice drawing and shooting in one fluid motion, instead of spending so long aiming; it will reduce the under powered shots, reduce fatigue and improve consistency, but requires more skill/practice. Shooting a bow with CA equipment is a big challenge - why a lot of us switch to crossbow; you're doing great. If a bow gets hit, it kills the bow and it needs to be re-inspected (since a arrow blow is less damaging than a rattan blow, it's in a grey area... a marshal should do it, but at least look over your bow). You have the right attitude about melee; simply filling in the weak spot in the line and taking the pressure off the spears, helps your team. I saw your camera pole from a distance a few times and look forward to seeing more of your videos.
Great video! I’m still trying to figure out how you did that third person shot! Some suggestions. If you get a clear shot at a fellow archer (especially if they are doing a lot of damage to your line), take it, but you were concentrating so much on finding the Combat Archers, you were missing easy shots on spearmen right Infront of you. (I know, it was your first battle - It will come with experience.) Spearmen and polearms are going to be doing the most damage to your side. My suggestion is to stand back and see where Your line has a lot of people dying and then go after whatever it is killing them. Most of the time it will be spearmen picking them off. Also, find some shield men to work with. If they know you are there, they can cover you and they will not be stepping Infront of your shots so you can safely be shooting around their sides.
All in all, great first battle and great video!
BTW, thanks a ton for doing this! Unfortunately Renegade Paladin and SCATally didn't make it to Pennsic this year, and we often take for granted that people will be taking video of the event.

awesome video! but the size of this battle is depressing compared to past years ive seen :/ im assuming thats due to covid and having a year or two being canceled. do you think it will pick up more in the coming years?

We have a maxim among Trimarian archers: You can't hit the ones looking at you. So don't feel bad about getting arrows blocked; that's just what happens, and it happens to crossbowmen too. 🙂
16:36 I think a shot to the bow should count since it might damage it too badly to use
You really dont want to stay at full draw for more than a few seconds. First your bow limb sticking up is a flag for an archer ready to shoot. Then people usually develope tremors holding at draw that effects accuracy.
In an infinite rez battle, don't worry about whether or not you took a shot you didn't have to ;) Walk back to rez, come back into the battle. :)

Come play in Lochac. Our archery rules are a whole lot more archer friendly - no massive non flying Uber padded arrows, our fly as fast as your bolts.
Taking shots, most of us take torso and whole of head shots as kills. Legs and arms disable that limb. Lower legs and hands, lose that limb - after all, if a bodkin (in real medical life) in the foot you don’t just shrug off.
