A razor is a Tool. Walking the edge of it, a trick that allows you to form A Perfect Circle! - within yourself. From a old,old hippie, marching in the Tool army. Peace & forever Jung.
Dude. Great vids. Thanks for sharing your stories. I think this song builds from Jungian psychology, proposing a hope and a means to not only integrate, but to overcome the shadow. Thus, Maynard is willing to completely lean into whatever his shadow throws his way, so that he can learn it all and learn from it all. Only by knowing the monster, its fears and weaknesses, can one truly evolve to a higher consciousness. Jung said for a tree to grow to heaven, its roots must reach to hell...or something like that =)
I've watched countless reactors to this song and I think you're the first to have the background to understand what it's about. Congrats, and welcome to the family!

It's so great witnessing you experience exactly what I did many years ago. Your welcome. And congratulations on finding them. I feel bad for anyone who hasn't discovered TOOL. You should do their discography in chronological order. Cuz you can literally see and hear the progression and growth and maturity happen. As time went on. They have been just raising the bar over and over. Going from young, angry, pissed off and in your face raw. To self realization and introspection. To more mature and balanced and spiritual. All while musically evolving and mastering their complex craft.
I agree with this take...it's better to evolve with the music as it was recorded because THE ARTISTS THEMSELVES evolved so very much over the years. Also, it's not as if there's a low spot in the journey. They're first album was great, and they just kept knocking it out of the park with each and every release. You could say their most recent album is their best, and I couldn't really disagree with you. If Tool recorded a new album over the next few years, I wouldn't be shocked if it was the best thing I've ever heard. Who else can you say that about?? Is anyone eagerly anticipating another Metallica, Pearl Jam, or Red Hot Chili Peppers album and expecting it to raise the bar? Seriously...Tool is the best band of our generation and it isn't even close.
Yeah I agree too! In a perfect world he would literally start from their EP or even pre-TooL. I my humble opinion Tool really IS the GOAT. Musically no one can touch them. Lyrically few can touch them and Maynards voice is amazing. There are so many great Tool songs to suggest to you but my favourite right this second is Descending from the new album
Pneuma’s drum cam is utterly amazing. It’s why Danny Carrey is called the “Octopus”. Before your mind melts on the time signature it’s written in 33/8’s… what other band can do that!
I am not that young either and I only found out about these guys 3 years ago. I heard about them but never really tried to listen to any of their songs. Until a friend from work heard another band I was listening to and asked me if I ever heard of TOOL because he thought I might like them. That evening I listened to Lateralus on UA-cam for the first time ever and it just blew me away. There are handful of other bands that I like almost the same (ironically one of them is The Perfect Circle which MJK also sings in), but at the same time it is not really the same. None of them can evoke such strong emotions in me. Watching you and witnessing a birth of a new TOOL fan is such a great feeling. Keep going. You barely scratched the surface.

Check out "Descending" and "Pneuma", two amazing tracks from their most recent album, "Bottom" and "Crawl Away" from their first studio album if you want to rock out, and "Jerk Off" or "Cold and Ugly" from their EP if you want to see how amazing and raw they were from the beginning.

You should totally do a full discography review of Tool. This is all their music. They all make you think and take you on a journey. Great review about Carl Jung and the connection. I was equally interested in Jung many years ago and was amazed at how Tool incorporated his ideas in their music
Love, love your thoughts on C.G. Jung. Those words really struck a chord with me. You're very eloquent in your delivery and I can tell that you have a depth that continues to make me so glad that I'm investing time in your journey with TooL. It's precious to me and a lot of us out here trying to make sense of this life. Spiral out 🌀
Another brilliant thing about Tool is the way they write. Danny, Adam and Justin write the music and then send it Maynard who then writes the lyrics according to what he hears in it.
There seem to have been a major disconnect in their latest album because it doesn’t sound cohesive as a unit. Sounds exactly how you described how they come together. Obviously there aren’t any radio friendly play songs, sounds like a bunch of B side songs that was rejected from the other albums.
As you explore TOOL, their earlier stuff is more angry, then it took a turn with Lateralus and got super technical, trippy and introspective. They lost some fans by doing that, but I just think it got so much better.
I thought I understood this song, but you helped me understand it in a new way as it pertains to my own life. You were talking about your mid 20's being agreeable and eventually feeling like you're not a good person etc. I'm 28 and the last couple years I have been going through this myself. I didn't set boundaries before. I see now that everything in my past can be attributed to my own actions and my resentment is the result of myself. I start to feel like maybe I'm an asshole. Am I a good person. Then I realized I am both, as all people are. That I choose to be a good person. The part of this song that changed for me is the describing what it feels like for your shadow to take hold. I felt that and I recognized it at first as like a separate voice/part of me speaking out of turn. Appreciate your commentary dude. You really need to check out Pneuma Live Drum cam if you want a masterful performance.
I've listened to enjoyed a lot of reaction channels on UA-cam about Tool, but I have to say you're certainly one of the most insightful. Vin of 'Vin and Sori' is quite insightful. Kudos bud!
it's 4/4 but sometimes they go into 6/4 which is pretty close to each other (in terms of feel).. that's why you feel like you're confused about the beat hahha

I feel you bro. I had the same issues when I was in my early to mid 20s. No boundaries and it made me a resentful and angry person. I found Tool and they helped me change my life. The inspired me to think differently; to look at my life from another perspective and like you said, to set standards for myself. I’m so glad you found Tool brother. Enjoy the ride and spiral out 🌀
Also I want to say to you, congratulations on recognizing the importance of integrating the shadow! It sounds like this realization was a while ago, but it is an important one nonetheless

I had a very similar response the first time I heard this song. It's what sent me down the Tool rabbit hole & I've never looked back. And they showed up exactly when I was ready for them. So awesome to watch you embark on this never ending journey, thanks for sharing!
Sounds crazy, but in the instrumental section, I feel as if the vocal is the conscience, the guitar is the light, the drums are the shadow and the bass is the ego
Thanks for sharing your story! After listening for almost 3 decades (yikes) I find myself revisiting Tool songs over & over. You'll start to find even more new things & new perspectives in the music over time, trust me.

I stumbled across your channel today and found this video. I’ve been listening to TOOL for almost 30 years. I’ve been listening to this SONG for 24 years. This is the first time someone has ever made me appreciate the song on a higher level. I’m a musician, not a philosopher. The music speaks to me but in a completely different way. To hear someone who is NOT a Tool fan (not that you aren’t now, but you’re not a long time fan) explain the concept made it so much more enjoyable. One thing you will find is that Tool fans have a tendency to overthink certain Tool tracks and get into some incredibly esoteric stuff. Some tracks deserve it but many don’t. You just brought this without any pretense. I appreciate this so much. You just earned yourself a subscriber.
Don't ever apologize for not getting into Tool earlier. Sometimes a person needs to become open to the ideas and philosophical references in the music and for most people it would go right over their head. You need to WANT to open your mind in order to truly appreciate what they have created for us.
Welcome to ToOl bro. With this band every song is like a journey. Very few bands have that Floydish hold. Obviously by the music and skill levels of each instrument, vocally included. But also the tribal, celtic and Native American vibe. Most reviewers that understand time signatures and counts, when listening to ToOl always have the same reaction. Wtf is happening. Haha Time changes are a constant and different with each instrument while being methodically and beautifully woven. You should see newbies at a concert trying to clap or air drums to songs. Haha Another thing about this journey, Maynard the lead singer has 2 other extremly accomplished bands. A Perfect Circle and Puscifer you should definitely check out. Lastly, love your reviews, very deep in thought and discussion. Next song I'd love to see you review is The Pot.
Their whole discography is absolute magic. I recommend all their stuff. Especially if you can find live performances. They are amazing live. I guarantee you will not be disappointed!
God, you are easily my favorite reactor. (not nuclear, but people who watch videos and talk about them) I watched you on your Bo Burnham binge, now you've found Tool, which is one of my top three favorites, and pretty much what I always have playing in the car if the wife doesn't change it. First off, you're a genius for making this channel which where you watch videos while you do your morning walk on your tredmill. Like, bro, you wised up, and are getting paid to do your morning routine. Getting paid to do something you were doing anyway is next level genius. But you also know stuff, and understand things. Especially with Tool, it's feels good, and gives me physical chills, when you can listen to the song and catch all the meaning for the first time. I probably heard this song 200 times before I started putting it all-the-way together. (in my defense, I was about 15 when I started listening to Tool, and it was before Lateralus released. Which is my request. Do Lateralus (the song) next. Then, The Patient (which I did a talk at my church about when I was still going) And my favorite song for when I'm feeling grumpy is Swamp Song. Also, Tool did the most amazing cover of No Quarter by Led Zeppelin. It'd be a sweet two vids to knock out to react to Led Zeppelin's original, and then to Tools. Tool brings a whole other mood to it without straying too far from the original. Keep up the hustle brother. You're doing good work.
Has anyone recommended the song Reflection? Starts out so dark and ends up so positive, uplifting, and inspiring. Tool has been my favorite for 28 years now.

They were always going to lose some of the OGT’s. 😉
I read that Justin auditioned into the band with this bass line. INSANE.
Sebs" So i was angry"...........And Segue into the "Grudge"
🤣🤣🤣
I've listened to enjoyed a lot of reaction channels on UA-cam about Tool, but I have to say you're certainly one of the most insightful. Vin of 'Vin and Sori' is quite insightful. Kudos bud!
Really appreciate it 👊🏽👊🏽
Told U ... U where about to embark on the greatest musical journey... Greatest Band Evaaaaaaa
it's 4/4 but sometimes they go into 6/4 which is pretty close to each other (in terms of feel).. that's why you feel like you're confused about the beat hahha
The solo part is in 7/8 with every 3rd bar going back to 4/4 (ish)
I love going back and watching your first experience with different Tool songs again.
Im sooo happy that youre enjoying the journey man. I had been watching your videos for quite a while and I just knew you would appreciate their messaging and their art through music. Have a great day!
I want Pushit. But, whatever you do, listen to the studio version first. Then, after a month when you've heard it enough times to know it, listen to the live salival version... your welcome😎
There's a cover of this by the O'Keefe music foundation. It's a bunch of kids, insanely talented kids, doing a cover of this song. It's pretty damned good and I'd say worth a reaction.
When every instrument is in different time signatures, that’s called a poly-meter!
"Every instrument is in a different time signature here" and they all come together to make your brain explode lol, great react man
PNEUMA!!! PNEUMA!!! PNEUMA!!! (the crowd continues to chant)
This is my 3rd vid in a row…keep em coming brother. ❤️🇨🇦🙏 we’ll watch em all!!!
The combo of well thought out lyrics and monstrous musical creativity is a powerful vehicle.
You have become my favorite reactor to TOOL! You understand the music and the lyrics. Keep up the great work!
Fun fact, when Justin Chancellor joined as bass player, this was the first riff he bought to the band, turned into one of my favourite songs ever.
Got a new sub. Keep the tool coming.
I'm excited for you. Welcome to the tool army 🪖
Yes. Just keep going. This is SO very satisfying.
Brother you are the shit my man at reviewing my boys!! I ain't even gunna lie I'm gravatating to you like you finally have to my boys! I went through what you went through back in mid 1992!
I am here trying to catch up on your Tool journey. Tool introduced me to Jung and philosophical concepts that changed my paradigm forever. I am grateful for my change and it is edifying to watch others experience it for the first time!
I love you walking on a treadmill! That’s how I listen to most of my music.
Love your Tool reaction videos. Somehow it enhances my own appreciation for their music.
Enjoy the ride and spiral out 🌀
Love it. Thanks for the note. Right there with you
You gotta check out either vicarious or stinkfist
Also I want to say to you, congratulations on recognizing the importance of integrating the shadow! It sounds like this realization was a while ago, but it is an important one nonetheless
Wings for Marie part 1 and 2. Songs about his mother and her unwavering faith in God even after she suffered a stroke and was left paralyzed for the rest of her life, dying years later.
This journey is gonna be great, stoked
I had a very similar response the first time I heard this song. It's what sent me down the Tool rabbit hole & I've never looked back. And they showed up exactly when I was ready for them. So awesome to watch you embark on this never ending journey, thanks for sharing!
it's amazing how tool songs reach people like you. Outstanding my friend. Enjoy the journey
The only thing I watch on UA-cam is Tool reactions. I’ve seen dozens of them and so far you are my favorite. I’m excited to see more! 🤘❤️🌀
You get it. Now it's your job to share tool with everyone you know and turn them on to the amazing experience.
That was the most satisfying tool reaction I've ever seen, this is why tool fans watch reactions.
Sounds crazy, but in the instrumental section, I feel as if the vocal is the conscience, the guitar is the light, the drums are the shadow and the bass is the ego
Awesome reaction brother!!! One of my favorite songs so far on my Tool journey!🤘
Thanks for sharing your story! After listening for almost 3 decades (yikes) I find myself revisiting Tool songs over & over. You'll start to find even more new things & new perspectives in the music over time, trust me.
Love the way you can articulate your thoughts to words and perspectives 🙏
Loving every single one of these Tool reactions! Bless you!
This song has been a top 2 for me since I heard it. Incredible.
Vicarious by Tool always blew my mind vocally. Eulogy was my first Tool song.
That is dope that you are on a treadmill listening to music. It making your adrenaline pump and with this song. It will make your adrenaline flow to the max!
Agostina By Puscifer please! Another one of Maynards bands.
It's about his daughter 🖤
You realize now we are expecting to get a new TOOL reaction daily. Just kidding, i think this might be the first time you've posted reactions on back to back days dealing with the same content. Either way keep up the great reactions and enjoy the experience you have now started.
Honestly, this was the best reaction on a youtube video i have ever seen. thumbs up!
Don't ever apologize for not getting into Tool earlier. Sometimes a person needs to become open to the ideas and philosophical references in the music and for most people it would go right over their head. You need to WANT to open your mind in order to truly appreciate what they have created for us.
Thanks a lot for the nice reaction - choose fear inoculum next
I can strongly recommend Invinsible from the Fear Inoculum album
You're as JUNG as you feel. Tool Rocks. A must for background music in all sensitivity training clinics, worldwide.
Right In Two next
Check out the Jung museum in Houston. That and the Rothko chapel are two of the most amazing experiences I've been blessed enough to experience.
I love this song! If you get a chance, the O'Keefe music school did a version of this that is absolutely amazing and you should watch it!
Love your reaction!! Right in two should be next. It’s about human nature
One of my favorite Tool songs
It’s amazing how the actual music was showing his transformation. These guys are incredible genius’s
Side note: you are one of my favorite finds on UA-cam in awhile. I dig your vibe bro. Ive probably said this before on different videos
This is my favorite song of all time. "Sober" is another amazing song by Tool. They really have so many amazing songs like "Schism" too.🌹
Welcome to ToOl bro.
Haha
Another thing about this journey, Maynard the lead singer has 2 other extremly accomplished bands. A Perfect Circle and Puscifer you should definitely check out.
Lastly, love your reviews, very deep in thought and discussion.
Next song I'd love to see you review is The Pot.
Love this song, have watched countless reactions of it, but yours is best
Looking forward to watching u dive into the music of one of the best bands ever... this is so cool!!!
Thank you Sebs for making a reaction and giving your thoughts on this!
This is the bassline Justin Chancellor brought with him to try out for Tool as their new bass player. Best hiring ever.
You’re absolutely correct. I’m only here bc of Tool. Welcome to the Tool Army!
They got you brother.....
Has anyone recommended the song Reflection? Starts out so dark and ends up so positive, uplifting, and inspiring. Tool has been my favorite for 28 years now.
