- As a follow-up to my 'Announcement' of January 6, 2011 ( • ANNOUNCEMENT ), here are some clips from the 1975 Dutch movie 'Doctor Pulder grows pot' ('Dokter Pulder zaait papavers') by Bert Haanstra, with music - indeed! - by that "left-wing lunatic", "fucking" Otto Ketting.
Judging the music accompanying the selected clips, I think I can safely say that, as far as Otto Ketting is concerned, the tax payer's money has been well spent.
THE STORY OF THE FILM
Kees Pulder is a boring, small town General Practicioner, bossed about by his wife, his son, and his patients. One day he gets visited by former college friend Hans van Inge Liedaerd (pronounced as 'Lidard' in French), the famous neuro-specialist. Hans claims he needs a medical advice. But in reality he is only after Pulder's medicine store and his supply of morphine. Pulder can't know that Van Inge has been recently removed from his post because of his morphine addiction. Staying over for the night at Pulder's house, Hans manages to get hold of the morphine capsules and drives off. The next day he causes havoc at a grand hotel after taking a shot.

Otto Ketting componeerde de mooie filmmuziek bij Dokter Pulder zaait papavers. Prachtig
Fantastische openings-scene (haven Blokzijl). Een absolute aanrader, deze film. Een tijd geleden besteld en hij bleef nog steeds overeind. Ondergewaardeerd t.o.v. andere bekende Nederlandse films uit die tijd, die veelal minder zijn maar veel meer aandacht kregen.
Helemaal met je eens, deze film staat nog steeds als een huis, viel me op toen ik 'm enkele jaren terug opnieuw bekeek, altijd blijven zinderen in m'n herinnering, dat doen niet veel films.
Sows poppies! Opium! Not pot. BTW in the book the film is based on 'De nagel achter het behang' there is no mention of papaversowing, though film and book are written by the same author, Anton Koolhaas.
Bedankt voor de aanvulling, wist niet dat het een film was naar het boek van Koolhaas, de film op zich is me altijd bij gebleven, ga nu eens op zoek naar het boek.

erg jammer dat het geluid ze slecht is.
Ja, frappant, dat overlijdensbericht te horen op de radio, de dag na m'n reactie.
Natuurlijk zijn papavers niet gelijk aan: 'pot' !
