Already made himself a meme of DCI 2016
Ha Boi how
@@aarona.ferreira3045 he winked at the end of his solo at Finals
Auditioned for BD. Went to Bluecoats instead. Won world championship. Legend
The wink seen across the world :)
Jack haha
Presenting their 2017 program: Wink!
The wankcoats
bluecoats downside up is secretly about teen depression
XxEpic_MemxX so that's why pink Floyd is in there...
OSHET HE FIGURED IT OUT
TSFLYER4 drum corps international is proud to present-
Can you do a video where all you do is wink a single time
I was in a high school auditorium on Saturday watching finals, maybe with about a hundred people, and when you winked, everyone went crazy. There was no moment anywhere close to that in terms of how much cheering there was. Awesome wink.
haha thanks man! glad you had a good time.
you'll be a legend through out DCI history. congrats on. well deserved gold medal
Thanks CJ, it was a great experience!
Shayne O' Brien How did you learn to double tongue. Do you have any tips?
+Martriox EVG I do. Screw digga da, say tu ku tu ku instead. For me it feels much smoother and less forced. Say tu ku while not even playing and just tongue notes. My 7th grade year of marching band (yeah we had 7th-12th) I could double tongue by the end of the season.
a person thanks and do you know wha that black brace is. What he has around the mouthpiece
Octav Posaune thanks
LOVED THAT WINK HAHAHA!! Glad you chose the right team :D
good thing you made bluecoats haha. awesome show!
if he made blue devils he probably wouldn't have winked...
I just realized that
This is the winking guy!!
Mel J. lol
You are a legend Shayne!!! You were amazing with the Coats this year!!! Thanks for making my first year of band and watching DCI amazing!
Thanks Samuel, i really appreciate your kind words! its been a great season.
+Shayne O' Brien haha I watched this video back in May, just found it again and recognized you. Who do you plan on marching with for the 2017 season?
Aaron Laughlin He aged-out man...
+Samuel Bang damn...
+Samuel Bang well good way to go out
Good thing he didnt make blue devils...he was too good!!
You are a GOD! I hope the blue coats paid you under the table for your amazing solo!
hahaha i wish.
Heard you play in atlanta during semi-finals, your solo made me (a baritone/trombone) and my friends (trumpets) collectively drop our jaws and go "wow, how does he do it?"
Thanks Arman, the support means a lot!
I wanna audition for the bluecoats so bad but I'm not even outta high school!
Arman Kordi same man, that's why I'm watching auditions videos to see how I compare to the accepted
Auditions fir blue devils. Gets into coats. Bloo.
I wonder if blue devils regrets not taking you in 😂😂
probably not because they still did good, and shayne was not the reason bluecoats won
No. Because he got cut on marching. His marching fit in a lot better at Bluecoats. That's not a slight at BC, BD just has higher marching standards than BC.
i see it, his backwards marching was a bit iffy (in terms of drum corp level), but still amazing regardless... i wish i still had the ..... confidence? not hte word i would use but the only one i can think of, to audition for BD. but it wont happen anymore.
i didn't get cut on my marching or playing. appreciate you trying to be a know it all but please don't. not on this video. thanks!
+Shayne O' Brien *gently apply ice to burned area* lol and congrats on bloos win man you're solo was incredible ☺
We watched you live in theaters. I felt the wink in my soul.
Hey look its the winking guy! so happy he did the coats for 2016 season
7:17 this dude strait up minecraft running backwards
I'm in high school and currently a freshman of marching band, man you're amazing
Thanks man, appreciate it! Keep up the practice. it'll get you far.
Jose Centeno So how’s the playing that you’re a senior now?
I’m a senior as well.
I’ve got a trumpet UA-cam channel if you’re interested in checking it out :D
ua-cam.com/channels/0zqaQGuJmVSwEuz5h7fydQ.html
Shayne why don't you upload the head cam footage from the blue coats you were recording the run through in Ben's video a lot of people would love to see that
The sodium-rich irony...
DUDE YOU'RE AWESOME!! This is my last year in High School and of course I want to still march, but I'm terrified! I'm Mellophone by the way
Shayne, the "something extra" was just great and your performance with the Bluecoats this is was just phenomenal.
Thanks Aidan, I appreciate the kind words and glad you enjoyed it :)
How did you hit that note so consistently? Amazing!
Working out the most efficient practice routine and sticking to it even when times get hard. Lead trumpet is not for the faint hearted. it'll push you mentally and physically. Just stick with the process, work hard and it'll happen.
Now this is pretty cool. Samuel Crawford is my band director and talks about how awesome you were all the time🔥
Im so proud of you guys for winning this year!!
great to see an Irish person in such a big corp well done man
+adam mccormack thanks adam! :)
+Shayne O' Brien hey did you ever match in Ireland when you were younger.... if so where😊
Marched with Clonmel Bluehawks for a few years then kidsgrove Scouts in UK.
When you’re a clarinet player and know good and well you’ll never be in drum corps ☹️ this is still amazing though! Blue coats is my favorite and I’m so glad they took you in!
I taught a guy in bk last year who had been playing baritone for 6 months. turned out to be one of the best players in the whole hornline. Anything is possible!
Thank you so much for the encouragement!
The man, the wink, the legend
hey shayne! I just started marching and fell in love with it, just wanted to say that you are phenomenal! keep doing what you do!!
thanks spencer, appreciate it :)
Great audition tape!
The legend
you were such an amazing soloist this pass year watching ya'll all these years makes me so excited to audition to be a BlueCoat next season!
Thanks Roy, glad you enjoyed it and supported the bluecoats.
Shane you’re my hero
You're my idol omg
I LOVE YOU SHANE!!
Smashing that double g
Great audition Shayne I met you at dcuk after dci with my dad!!!!
Hey Alex! Great to see you too buddy! I'm expecting great things from you in the future! If you need anything let me know!
Thanks Shayne can you just give me some advice with doing my grades because my dad really want me to do it and join a music university when I'm older!?😜🎺🎺🎺🎺
Imagine if this guy was a school's assistant band director - that would be cool for them
Very Nice Shayne
Best Regards From So Cal
Shane
I feel like only talking about a wink (which was still INCREDIBLY smooth) is sort of insulting b/c he's amazing...
I love that he played alexander artunians trumpet concerto as an audition piece. I did to. This is great
The wink! yes, we watched it in Mexico too!
You are amazing. I have been watching the DCI for years and I love it a lot. I have decided to start really focusing on playing the Trumpet. I already focus on it a lot but now I realize I want to pursue it for a career and life. You are amazing. I want to be just as great as you. My range definitely isn't there the highest I can go is an occasional in tune 3x C. I really hope I can make the Blue Coats in the next few years. Do you have any tips that could help me? I'm a sophomore in High School so I have a couple years to improve. Thanks if you answer that would be amazing.
Auditioned for BD won for BC :D
Thank you. Thank Bloo! 😉
THIS IS THE MAN WHO DID THE WINK
IF HE ONLY KNEW THE MEME HE WOULD BECOME
i saw the thumbnail of this video and immediately thought "ITS THE BLUECOATS GUY" 😂 love you shayne
Heather Walkley thanks Heather :)
Amazing!!! Any advice for auditioning or getting ready for it? (For Trumpet)
Practice your fundamentals. Make it your priority. Have a good attitude and become adaptable in any environment/situation.
Shayne O' Brien if you are still reading comments on this video id be surprised but i was planning on getting lession to futher my skills and hopefully join the bluecoats
I know this is an old video, but just out of curiosity, what made you make the switch to bluecoats? There's no doubt you could have marched devils, so I'm positive you weren't cut.
You were fantastic in the Bluecoats this year! I plan to audition in 2019 in the summer of my graduation from high school, I think I'll be good enough by then. Any tips?
Practice like your audition is always tomorrow
Thanks dominick. As far as preparation goes. Really dig in deep with the fundamentals of playing. Flexibility, phrasing, tonguing, tone etc. Really focus on what your practice consists of. 30 mins of excellent practice is better than 2 hours of okay practice. Feel free to email me if you have anymore questions: shaynejazz@hotmail.com
thank you both!
Well did you audition?
God
The blue devils missed out after you became famous I think they regret it
please upload your gopro video!!!!
why is title spelled wrong
He got cut from blue devils video audition so he went to coats and became a legend
Vigor Silk blue devils sure regret that!
You rock!!!
Can I use this video as reference for my band this season?
Hi Joe, yes of coarse you can. I hope it helps in some way.
Shayne O' Brien Fantastic, Thanks man
I thought I saw you at DCI Denton with the Blue Knights!
I saw the same and I thought it looked familiar and then my brains said “oh shit it’s the guy!!!!” The ones that know know he’s a legend 😮💨
One thing i hate about DCI is people aging out. They should change that. If you're good enough, you're good enough.
Yea but then new people would not get a chance.
Thats the point tho. To see how good u are at that specific age, if it hadnt been like that it wouldnt be fair, imagine a 30 year old marching with a 16 year old
I love the mouthpiece change mid tape lol, figured they wouldnt allow that but I guess there's not too much strato crap written into the regular part. Would always be time to switch for a quick solo note.
You're a monster. Great job
Appreciate the kind words, still lots of work before tour!
+Shayne O' Brien so did u make it
I can't watch the whole thing. Do you ever march an play at the same time?
Yo! It's wink dude!
Hey Shayne! When you were playing the high note during the ballad of downside up, what kind of mouthpiece did you have? I noticed it was golden in color.
Your the trumpet private lesson teacher at my school
Quick questions on the mouthpiece(s)... Which one do you use for the "normal" range? Which one do you use for the "high" range? What would be the difference between the two?
hey blue look this !!!!!!!
Sorry if I'm late but that last solo I really like but I can't find it and was wondering where you got that from ?
Behold: Shane O'Brien!
Me: OMG THE WINK MAN!!!
Hey Shayne! You did great this year! What trumpet do you use?
Awesome. :D
Every time I watch Down Side Up with my friends I always scream when I see you wink
I want to learn trumpet to audition hopefully in senior year/college, but I don't know where to start and my director is busy usually and he plays trombone. I heard that having an overbite affects playing, is this true, like do you have one? I heard it is harder to learn, is it true? And what do you reccomend I do to start learning?
Hey, drop me an email on shaynejazz@hotmail.com
Do you mind letting me know what type of trumpet mouthpiece you are using?
Hi Daryl i use a Denis Wick 4E
What did you use to record this video?
A standard Canon camera and an Audix i5 mic. Very standard equipment but the result is great.
The G on the f major scale had a flubbed attack, 2 demerits !
The wink was almost as good as the solo
I'm sure they regret not taking you in.
is this the wink guy
BLUE DEVILS AUDITION: PLAYS FOR BLUECOATS
;)
Dude I didn't know if you would respond, but D.S.U is probably my favorite show. I think my second favorite would probably Star of Indiana A salute to Walt Disney.
Emery Cole im guessing you haven't seen madison scouts 1995
+miles williams I follow a lot of drum drum corps. Star just happens to be my favorite. BD, Blue nights, carolina crown, Bluecoats, P.C., Gold, and many more.
All of the brass exercises are the same this year idk about the excerpts tho because I’m auditioning on tuba
good
at 1:14 that is one of our band's warm ups...im in 8th grade
mantap
Hey man, so I don't know if this will reach you anytime soon, but I think you're amazing. I was wondering if you could give me any tips on auditioning for the Bluecoats. I was looking to audition there after this summer. I'm at Music City right now and we actually got Josh Meyer as our caption head. Thanks so much in advance for any tips you can give me.
Winks
He definitely didn't get cut because of visual.
Shane I'm sure you just NEVER get this question, but where is that GoPro footage?
and now staff for blue kinghts
This was very good. Congratulations on bluecoats. If you don't mind, how much about is the contract?
Hi Nick, roughly around 3,000 dollars. The sooner you pay the full amount the more of a discount you get off. So if you paid it all at once it might only cost you 2,7000
*Puts saxophone music in intro to trumpet audition* 😂
show us the Wink XD 😉
Not that it matters now, but how did you get away with playing the Arban tune as 32nd notes instead of sextuplets?
I want to be like him but I don't know where to start 😞
Where is your head cam I saw it on your head on others just wondering where it is
Do you need previous corp experience to march Bluecoats?
Usually you do, but they have been known to take rookies
+Tyrell “Splash-master” Wiggems It just takes a crap load of hard work and dedication... and a lot of natural talent lol
Most corps' will take a rook out if they are good enough. But the top are usually less keen on taking normal rookies.
Judging from allot of these audition videos, it doesnt seem that difficult. For example, no offence to Shane, but tone, articulation, technique, and style are below average. Range and marching seems to be only thing that appeals to me. Again, i mean no offence, this is merely a judgement from the video. The audio quality might've diminished.
+Kurt Tumbagahan I agree. Watching a lot of drumcorps audition tapes, volume, range, and flexibility is valued over tone, intonation, and flexibility. But you've gotta admit that this guy is a damn good marcher!
Are you slurring the notes for the scales at the beginning? If you are tonguing, how do you make it so legato?
i think he makes it legato by using a lighter tongue and by making a "ta" motion with his tongue as he is tonguing
Hey Mike, it's really all about the air flow and relationship between tongue and air. I used more of a "dab" approach. That's why it sounds smoothly articulated I guess.
+Shayne O' Brien You dab with your tongue? You're a legend.
what is that thing on the neck of your trumpet called?
it's a berp
French Hornss the combination of your name and picture is perfect.
Trevor Huggins It's a called a BERP
Parker Wiley thank you
