    Really looking forward to your in depth reviews and comparisons of these Monolith headphones. Also I think you have probably become my favourite UA-cam headphone reviewer - I was/am a fan of Tyll Hertsens although of course he's no longer in the headphone review business. But you set well defined listening tests, and the things you say while testing are things I can understand and appreciate - you're doing a great job anyhow, cheers.

    Lol, I get the feeling you really dislike overpriced products like the LCD line from Audeze. Man, Monoprice reminds me of AMD, beating both Intel and Nvidia on both CPU and GPU performances at a better price point or being the best bang for the buck. Happy to see competitors actually competing.

      I like Audeze. I think they make good products. I just dislike their price and unwarranted hype. They put a lot of work into planar magnetic headphones--they didn't create the technology but they made it their own. But I think they have failed to innovate and provide consumer-friendly options. When all other planar magnetic headphone manufacturers sell excellent alternative planars at about half the price of the cheapest Audeze big planars--that should be a wake up call to Audeze. Their response turned out to be a middle finger to the consumer--the LCD-1. They have marketed the LCD-1 as something it is not. It's got a plastic build, sounds unlike other Audeze headphones, is not neutral (contrary to popular argument), and is still too expensive when compared to alternatives.
      There is simply no excuse for Audeze's lack of consumer care. Other, cheaper headphones have better build quality and either the same or cleaner sound than the LCD-1, and provide a more affordable alternative.
      It's almost like one of your grandkids who can't get his act together. Secretly you hope he gets into just enough trouble to scare him back to reality. That's what I'm hoping for with Audeze. Whether you like or dislike Monoprice, they are tenacious and have been at Audeze's heels. With meaningful competition from Hifiman and Sendy, I think Audeze has plenty to be scared over. But if their response is something like the LCD-1--they haven't hit rock bottom yet.

    Nice review overall. You just got a new sub. I have a question, have you try remove the foam under the grills of the 1070? These actually really don't feel heavy at all despite the weight listed for them... the only thing that bothers me about these so far is that the clamping force is SO WEAK... they feel really loose on my head and my head isn't small. I might try slowly bending them to be tighter but dang, I wish they held just a little tighter.
    Sound is great so far, needs more burn in.

    • @NoThemeReviews
      @NoThemeReviews  4 роки тому +1

      Yup. I was expecting more clamping from the way the headband bows. And it's not like the leather pads need to be thicker...I'd have a hard time finding thicker earpads to create a tighter seal. Oh well. Hopefully Monolith takes this little stuff into consideration and improves on the headphones. I don't want Monolith to be the next Oppo!

    Monoprice m1070 vs Sivga Phoenix what's the main difference in sound characteristics between those???

  • @slothninja5180
    @slothninja5180 4 роки тому

    Is the M1070 better than the Sundara in terms of bass. I like to listen to a lot of EDM, Hip Hop, and Rock. I have X2HRs and I love them but I am desperately wanting that sub bass punch that they lack while not losing too much soundstage. Would the M1070 even be a significant upgrade over my X2HRs? I would assume so but I have never heard a Planar before.

    • @NoThemeReviews
      @NoThemeReviews  4 роки тому +1

      Not so much punch as definition and clarity vs the X2. The bass transience will be noticeably faster. The sub-bass and mid-bass will be better separated. The 1070 is not a bassy headphone. Neither is the Sundara. The 1070 has slightly more bass emphasis than the Sundara, but not by much. If you want bass, stick with dynamic drivers. The 1More has exceptional bass impact. The D2000 has very deep sub-bass, though muddy.

    • @slothninja5180
      @slothninja5180 4 роки тому

      No Theme Reviews the X2HRs have a lot of mid bass but they lack sub bass it’s almost nonexistent and it’s very apparent in some bassy songs it almost sounds like part of the sound cuts out because of it. It’s not that I’m wanting a bassy headphone exactly just something that can hit low when it needs to. I tend to like a clean bass I would say my preferred signature would be something reminiscent of the Blon BL-03. Personally unless I go closed basically no dynamic open back hits low only Planars do that from what I see in graphs at least. And the only Closed Back I would want Drop doesn’t even sell any more which is the Fostek Ebony. And I know there are DT177X Go’s but they don’t sound warm enough for me and tend to come off too analytical for my tastes.

    • @NoThemeReviews
      @NoThemeReviews  4 роки тому

      Graphs are very misleading. It’s rare to find a planar that fully reproduces sub-bass with any authority. You may want to consider the Denon D2000 or D5200.

    • @RTR-96
      @RTR-96 Рік тому

      I listen to mostly EDM. Compared the X2 vs the X1: kept the X1 because the X2 was too sibilant and didn't have enough sub-bass and the soundstage was more narrow.
      Recently I tested the X1 vs Sundara, M1060 and M1070: I kept the X1 because, again, the Sundara was more sibilant and the slight increase in clarity didn't justify the upgrade price. In other words, in order to upgrade from the X1, I need a substantial upgrade in sound to justify the expense. It wasn't there in the Sundara. Yes, it was slightly quicker, but the vocals more in your face. And the soundstage was as wide as the X1, but it didn't justify spending the $$$.
      Compared to the M1070 and M1060: there's a midrange veil on both the M1060 and M1070. Clarity doesn't come close to the X1 and Sundara. The M10** don't have the sub-bass, so they couldn't even compete in the comparison. They also don't respond well to EQ. Boosting the bass just introduces mud. Not so with the Sundara. They confused me honestly. I thought they would compete more closely.
      Side note: I tested a used and new M1060 and the used one was more veiled than the other. Conclusion: I think Monoprice's QC is not very good.
      Side note II: If you don't mind IEMs, try a Letshuoer S12. They all-around surpass the X1 and Sundara with no EQ. Boost at 30Hz and prepare for your mind to be blown. (I'm still searching for a full-sized can equivalent.)

      I can't tell you which one you'll enjoy more. That's a personal preference. The M570 is a Sendy Aiva clone with different earpads. The bass on the 570 isn't deep or impactful--same as the Aiva. The M1070 is a new generation of drivers with a slightly different house sound than Monolith had before. It's got fast bass, though not particularly deep. Its mids are clear and treble well-controlled with energy. It has wider soundstage than the M570.

    hi. I have m1060, m1060c, lcd2c, lcd2 and the review on my channel. Ok, but i am not here for say you that hahahah. I have a question. About all that headphones that i have mentioned, my favorite sound is of the m1060. I describe its sound like very very holographic, amazing instrumental separation, and and Amazing bass, very tight and well controlled!! Just perfect bass. On the other hand, M1060c the bass is big and nothing tight, i hate that. Then, I would like to know if m1070 has the same features in the bass like m1060 and the same behavior in the imaging (holographic sound) like the m1060 (open back version)?. I want to buy an m1070 but i would like the same bass. And second question. The m1060 has "ringing", yes we know that, but we can hear it, in the other hand, m1060c doesnt have ring but has a very "thin" highs, with very piercing peaks on 1khz, 2khz and 4khz. Just impossible to hear. What about m1070 highs? I hope you can response me that 2 questions. So, thank you very much. Regards.

    • @NoThemeReviews
      @NoThemeReviews  4 роки тому +1

      Lol, it seems like you have an excellent collection of headphones!
      I don't know what you mean by "holographic". If you can tell me precisely what that means to you, it would help me answer the question.
      There is a noticeable sound difference between the 1070 and both the 1060 and 1060c. The bass on the 1070 has significant rumble in the sub-bass; the sub-bass and mid-bass become muddy when both are in the mix. However, I have not heard any distortion at all. Moreover, the bass does not overwhelm the mids. I think the 1070's treble is a few decibels reduced from the 1060--which is just under my personal treble threshold. I would not describe the sound of the 1070 as "thin." In fact, I'd say it is more full sounding than the previous models.
      I think the best way to understand which headphones you want is to audition them. In this case, that's not possible.
      I'm going to upload my sound tests starting tomorrow. Those might help you get an idea of the M1070 sound.

    • @dynamic-audio

      @@NoThemeReviews Holographic sound is when you have "layers" of sound. Something like if a set of instruments were heard in the background, then a few centimeters closer to you, other instruments, and so on. The point is that the layers are very well defined and separated from each other, and there is no mixing between layers. Here, in each layer we have a set of instruments or voices. I hope I have explained.
      Only with hd800, t1 and m1060 have I noticed that "holographic" sound. With the lcd2.2 prefazor also but a little less compared to the m1060.
      On the other hand, My main concern is to know if the m1070 has a tight and controlled bass like that of the m1060 or a bass that is "reverberant" like the sony z7. For example, the Sony Z7 has a bass with a lot of reverberation, which it does, to my point of view, little controlled and resonant, but still with a lot of detail, cleanliness and quality. But I don't know if for you a sound with reverberation of this type is called "distorted."
      My specific question is whether the bass of the m1070 is reverberant and resonant like a z7, or tight and controlled like an m1060?
      I hope I don't overwhelm you with all this. Greetings friend.

      @@NoThemeReviews good vocals, nice imaging, precise and impact bass but no muddy bass. Rock songs with a lot of drums and nice sounding guitars, some pop songs with that nice touch of bass but not overwhelming.

      @@bfhyanFX You're asking for a personal opinion. I don't do that. It's not appropriate for reviewers to tell you what to buy. Both of these headphones have a balanced sound signature, but present different characters. Neither has muddy bass. The 1070 is smoother, the Phoenix is more vocal-forward and has slightly more treble clarity.

    how do you rate monolith usb dac? It's good to monolith m1060? and how about stage?

    • @NoThemeReviews
      @NoThemeReviews  4 роки тому

      The Monolith Dac sounds exactly like the Cobalt. I don't think USB dacs are any good for planar magnetic headphones--especially with large drivers like the ones in the M1060 or LCD series. You simply can't get enough power to the drivers. As for soundstage, it's average. Of course, that might change depending on your headphones.

      It’s not that simple. The two have different sound signatures. That’s like asking if a pear is better than a plum.
