Exactly what I did on Saturday similar woods and conditions in Yorkshire. For a day I was HENRY TURNER 😂😂
These daily videos are a delight, Henry. And to add to the fun, Tom Heaton just concluded a week of daily vlogs from his time in Spain (you probably watched as well). As I'm sitting here in the US, I'm getting the urge to shoot some waterfalls... 🙂
The droplets in the web at the end is an inspired photo. Loved it.
As you say; being out regardless of weather is important, you never know what might happen with the conditions
Thank you Henry for this immense video series. Your hard work is really appreciated. You have called me out, I'm one of those that find it difficult to get enthusiastic when it's just grey and miserable out. Must try harder!
I appreciate that!
my god the COLOURS the z7 produces. stunning. Sat at home feeling completely miserable with a nice early Christmas dose of covid - your daily videos have been a real treat
Really enjoying these daily posts. The videos and your enthusiasm make my day. I can’t go walking in the lakes or my old stomping ground in the Pennines. Too old and too far away, living here in Australia. But a fix of rain and cloud cheers me up. So thanks Henry and have a great Christmas to you and your followers.🎄🍾🥂
As another comment opined, we appreciate all the work that goes into daily filming and editing. To your point about developing an eye for composition, one of the best IMO on that skill set is Adam Gibbs. He can dissect a woodland scene in such a way that he ‘sees’ opportunities that look like a jumbled mess to me...until I see his final image. He is both very analytical and creative. Don’t mean to promote another photographer on your channel per se, just giving some well deserved credit for his technique. I will say your channel is showcasing your enthusiasm and maturing photographic style from many months ago - which is noticed and appreciated. Happy holidays, sir.
You are more popular than Emerdale at the mo Henry.....well done! and thank you....
I live next to a 6500 hectare forest. It's the only place I go with my camera. It can be challenging, but there are so many different ecosystems, points of interest, and hidden gems to find, both the woods itself and the magical world of close-up/macro.
Hi from the Highlands. With work monopolising Mon-Fri it's been a while since I got out with the cameras in actual daylight when it wasn't absolutely pissing it down.
The last photo I took on a dry bright day was the last weekend in September!
It's a good job Scotland still looks good in shit weather.
Thank you Henry, that was the push I needed to get out with my camera down to our local waterfall.
Your dialogue about the photographers mind set was wonderful.
Another great video! Thank you, Henry! One thing I'm learning from you (among the many things I'm learning from you) is to slow down and take my time. I tend to rush myself when I'm out photographing.
Going to be gutted when this series finishes. Been very inspirational right from the beginning
Thanks so much mate
I'm amazed you are keeping the energy levels up after so many videos on the trot. Well done sir.
Thank you very much!
Great video again Henry,I always get a hotel souvenir on holidays,a shower cap, only one.Roll on the next video.
Another excellent video...yet again you show how to just get out and photograph no matter how gloomy...love the black and white shot of the waterfall..Best wishes
I almost forgot. There I was editing a photo of a butterfly I took at Stratford butterfly farm yesterday and I remembered it's Henry Turner time.
Henry, another awesome video that is both inspiring and instructive. By simply showing us the things you do and your excitement makes me want to get out there to take the smaller and bigger shots. The little pictures of the berries and leaves have been just as inspiring as the larger shots. It also amazes me how many people are not fans of the motion blur of water. I absolutely love those shots as the stories are just to many to count.
Thanks again!!
“Be out, turn up” …. best advice
Isn't it amazing the diversity of nature. Some of which you don't really see until it's rainy. I use shower caps too :)
Waterfalls and moving water, quite a contentuous subject. I tend to go for the faster shutter speeds.
I onece read an article with the suggestion that you should always FART before taking a photograph. It is a mnemonic which stands for Feel, Ask, Refine and Take. I have found this invaluable particularly because of the simple word used.
Been loving this daily series. I particularly love how you can be so enthusiastic in whatever conditions or locations you find yourself in. Of course we all wish for the "perfect light" or the "perfect conditions" but just to be out with our camera should be the most important thing. I am a sucker for a good woodland though 😁
I'm never in a position where I can take my time when taking photographs (always family, kids around), BUT (
Just got to the part in the video where you talk about how much work making these videos has been, and I don't know how you do it, I've struggled to keep up with watching them, and am only now able to catch up so god knows how you manage to fit in making the videos especially at such a busy time of the year. Amazing videos and photographs as always. Keep up the good work!
Henry Turner + a waterfall = an excellent photo. Loved that section of the fall in black and white, I've been looking for something very similar in my area but haven't found it yet, the search continues. Great work with the advent vids Henry, well done. 😎👍
Many thanks mate!
As a Guy with not a lot of Hair left, I really didn't think I would be ordering Shower Caps from Ebay...Ever! Great Tip Henry, and Brilliant Video as usual,.. Inspiration for us all!
Inspired me today, Colorado mountains in the snow! I hiked /climbed 12 miles, froze half to death, and all but one of my photos all sucked (a closeup of my crampons on an ice covered boulder), but it sure beat sitting around inside.
Another cracking adventure Henry.
Like everyone we really appreciate the amount of hard work you put into these video's each day.
Some really good advice and tips as usual.
Great image's.
Look forward to seeing your next video.
Excellent tip, Henry, as per, I’m always rushing too much, and will definitely take more time next time 👍. Loving the daily posts, you deserve a restful Xmas 🎄🖖😄
This has been an outstanding series. Shooting and editing a video each day is a boat load of work but the quality has stayed top notch. Each one has been a joy to watch.
Thanks to you too Henry. I'm not getting good value from my Netflix because I'm enjoying your videos more.
Excellent series of videos, the local cafs must be getting some good trade😂😂😂
Only four days to go, Henry!
Your skill as a photographer is top level and your love and enthusiasm for landscape photography is through the roof. Of course i'm not telling you anything new. lol The question i have from this video is, did you take a photo of that waterfall in it's entirety also? Just ordered your calendar tonight to show some support and to display your work in our house. Keep going Henry! You're an encouragement to photographers all over the world.
Great video. That is the way I do it as well when it is overcast I shoot woodland, waterfalls, and B&W photos.
Thanks for the tip to look at the scene and contemplate the shot before breaking out the gear and taking the shot
Great vid as always Henry! Couldn't believe it when I saw where you were. I only visited Maentwrog a week or two ago. Lovely location for rainforest hunters like myself. Keep up the great advent work. Cheers, Ian 👍😁
The image at 13:45 is so stunning!!
Your comments about your initial steps when making a photograph resonated with me. Often I’ll be out with my camera somewhere and know that there is a good shot to be had but I can’t figure out what it is. Those first moments without the camera when I’m trying to compose are really important, but they can be difficult. Perhaps you can do more videos on finding the composition within a location.
As always, your videos are great. I look forward to them.
Morning Henry, just caught up on this video and loving them all, find myself waiting for the next one each day. I used to rush into getting the camera out and taking a shot … now I try and do exactly what you said and slow down, leave the camera in the bag or on the capture clip and think more about the composition before trying to take the image .. looking forward to todays video already which I’ll probably watch in the morning. Keep up the excellent work. Cheers 👍🏼
Just finished work Henry I thought I would sit down with a cup of tea and watch your latest video, thanks for the great tips you’re giving and appreciate the hard work that’s going into to your advent series 😊
Thanks Henry. I struggle with woodland, so I'm thinking that I will get out before Christmas, really slow myself down, and see what happens. This will be very difficult for me to do, because as I normally approach a location my brain just goes into overdrive, and I'm assessing all sorts of possible compositions and angles in my head over the last few metres, and then off I go. So, I shall have a slow down day, and see how I get on!!
Another cracking episode Henry .. thank you for inspiring one and all . Always a pleasure watching your channel . 👏👏🙏🏻
Thanks again!
Loved the image in the smaller cascade and great points on flat light and composition.
Another fine video, Henry. Thank you for posting and for putting in all of this effort.
Got a small cascade near home and a few of days of rain in the forecast. Perhaps Christmas Day I'll bailout of the family festivities for a few hours (I'll need the escape, I'm an introvert) and do some nature photography.
Thanks for explaining the way you explain your way through the photos. I don’t always stop to evaluate and I am going to add it to my photo shoots in the future.
Very inspirational, im loving the daily videos. Thank you for the tips, they really help!
We are loving it too Henry!
Thanks for this great series and all your tips.
Planned this autumn / winter to expand my nature photography into more general woodland composition's ( been mainly close up and macro since moving from film to digital a good few years ago so no begginer in this closer style of photography ) but getting a good composition on the bigger picture is proving to be rather a problem for me so your tips are very constructive but what really interests me is that through these social media platforms we can expand our knowledge through creative film makers "putting it out there" for others to learn irrespective of our age or experience. Watching your last vid. around the Snowdonia area - very inspiring images. 👍
Love the enthusiasm, and tips. and making me very jealous of the great locations you get to. My local woodlands seem to be very bland and uninspiring, as are most of the other areas that haven't been photographed to death, but your videos make me want to get and try and explore more, thank you 😁
I'm going to miss this series when it's over. It's amazing how you have managed to keep it interesting throughout with the usual bucket load of enthusiasm and useful tips.
I'll try and bear it in mind
Really appriciate your advent series. Lots of inspiration 😊
More great info and classy photographs! Thanks for taking me along!
Great tips today Henry, certainly something to take onboard 👍🏻
Well done Henry you’ve inspired me again to try and get out more great work keep them coming 👍
Thanks Steven 🙏🏻
That’s actually a great tip, I’ve often thought how do you decide what’s going to make a decent photo. Another great video Henry 👍
In my opinion this is one of the best channels on UA-cam for learning new photography skills and tips in an entertaing and enjoyable way. I love how you have picked one topic a day in this series, Henry, and elaborated on it in detail. You have given me so much inspiration and I am learning so much. Thank you.
Wow, thanks!
Good tips, composition is so important to images 👏
Great advice regarding taking time to look at possible compositions first Henry.
Going to Staithes and coastal path tomorrow with a mate and will definitely be putting your advice and tips into practice.
Definitely a good idea to take some time looking at your subject of interest if your conditions are allowing that opportunity. One of my weaknesses used to be getting stuck in straight away which on reflection led to tunnel vision at times as you become fixated on a composition and as a result created missed opportunities. Lovely images Henry, the abstracts are really coming out great for you
nice that your giving us great tips and thought processes, i must slow down. just want to thank you for these fantastic videos every night
Henry Thank you all the time and effort you put in for these Advent videos! I especially liked today’s advice-slow down and picture the photo with my eyes before getting out the camera. Great tip for a beginner photographer like me! Can’t wait for the remainder videos for the Advent season! These are great and you are doing a tremendous job!
Thanks again Henry, you've inspired me go out on a rainy day for at least a look around. Still loving the advent series! Cheers!
Glad to hear it!
New subscriber - returning to photography / finding your content informative & inspirational. My elderly but mint, little used, owned from new Nikon D300 will deffinately be all I need for a fair while. Thanks for encouraging me to get it out of the drawer and charged up! I might need a couple of filters and to learn some software skills to get the best out of it.
Henry you inspire alot of people with your daily videos and your channel in general great to watch as always cheers Henry 👍🏻✌🏻
I appreciate that!
Thankyou Henry on showing us how you do composition, this was really helpful actually explaining & showing your composition & thoughts like the waterfall for example, why you chose that particular part because of more black & white of the rocks, composition is what makes a great photo, one of the main elements I’m guessing. I’m new to photography so any tips are really helpful. Great work 😎 📷
Really look forward to these videos Henry. I’m gonna be gutted when they’re all done. Thank you for sharing your time and massive efforts it takes for you to make these videos for us all to watch. Hope you have a fantastic Christmas and an excellent new year.
Thanks mate, you too!!
Great advice, great video's. You may be having fun doing all this but it does take a lot of your time and energy so thank you it really is appreciated, I love loading up a new video each day, your enthusiasm for it all is contagious. Cheers. 🍷
My pleasure!
Hi, really enjoyed your vlogs and will be with all the way you'll definitely need a rest over Christmas.
Thanks so much! 😊
Another fantastic video! Have you trekked to Glen Nevis, along a sometimes craggy path just above a gorge to get to where Steall Waterfall is and a rather interesting bridge? (A second's glance at the bridge is all it took for me to decide 'Nope'). The waterfall was in full flow with it raining and the flow of water through the gorge was pretty loud.
Thanks Henry for another interesting video with great comments & tips....I learn more about composition from these videos even if I can't find locations like you do..... cheers from Australia 🦘🦘😊
Glad it was helpful!
Interesting to see your thought process as you go from the initial inspiration to the finished image.
Good motivation when conditions don't seem optimal or inspiring, a little nudge towards creative thinking.
Thank you very much!
Really enjoying your Advent uploads, when you are taking your images in these vlogs, are you thinking of sales or for stock images or just for fun/personal to maybe delete later?
Hi, Henry, just like to say I'm loving these advent adventures, during these hectic days before the big man arrives its nice to sit back and have a quiet 20 odd minutes and enjoy that days vlog. Where abouts in Wales were you on this trip?.
Also any news on getting your olympus camera fixed?.
Looking forward to seeing tomorrow's adventure.
Thanks a lot mate!! This is near Caernarfon in North Wales 👍🏼. The OM-5 is still in repair
Hi Henry, I would like to ask a question, great video as usual and on this video you have zoomed in close on waterfalls.. My question is when would you look at taking wider views of waterfalls? Was there any specific reason on the second waterfall you did not try a wider scene/composition?
Hi Henry. I thought I loved landscape photography and was passionate about it... until I met you on UA-cam 🙂
You should ask Santa for a macro lense for Xmas 👍
Sometimes I just see it and get excited and shoot, other times I think I should be getting other things
Just wondering if the OM5 will be making a reappearance sometime soon ?
Been trying the. HDR on my OM1, must be doing something wrong because I haven't got anything decent yet from that feature.
Lovely location for today's video Henry 👌
It’s still in repair 👍🏼
Also I think that you have made the text a bit bigger on the photos you are putting up, thanks for that Henry
You're welcome
👍👍
Which forest in wales is this please ?😊
👍📷😎
From what I understand every forest in wales is a rain forest
Where is this Henry?
Hi mate it is near Caernarfon in north wales
The waterfall is Rhaeadr Ddu near Maentwrog, quite a distance from Caernarfon. 😀
I've really enjoyed watching your videos Henry. Good work. Looking forward to seeing more photos and videos. 😊👍📸
Glad you like them!
