Always a pleasure, my friend.
could you do a video please of the top 10 most famous NASCAR car numbers???? thanks
hey s1ap you need to make a video on joseph lombard jason jacoby and rick crawford i know ricks in prison but they let two peodeos walk the streets this needs fixed get the word out people
You need to do another top 10 nicknames video since there are so many good ones.
I’m shocked Mark Martin isn’t second on this list
Underrated comment.
I see what you did there! 😄
@@shawnreap good, I was hoping someone would 😅
Ouch lol
Bruh
Jimmy "Mr. Excitement" Spencer is another awesome nickname
I always call him Mr. Excitement when I play old NASCAR games.
I agree, nice profile pic by the way
Don't forget Mr Excitement's favorite Rubberhead (Kurt Bush).
I was disappointed that Mr excitement did not feature on this list
I think someone who should've been an honorable mention is 'Handsome' Harry Gant
Aka 'High-Groove' Harry
Aka 'Hard-Luck' Harry
And my personal favorite
'Mr. September'
Jimmy 'Smut' means comes to mind aswell. Shocks me smoke didn't make the list.
The Bandit Harry Gant
also Mr. September
GM didn't request the black scheme, they actually wanted a blue car. Childress and Earnhardt wanted a black car but GM wasn't having it, so to prove their point, they took a test car out to Daytona with GM representatives, painted it half black and half blue, and the black looked WAY better on track, so they went with that instead.
Interesting , didn't know that
Yep Basically it wouldve been similar to the AC Delco Busch car using the blue GM symbol color 👍
Best late Christmas gift in the history of the south
A couple more notable:
Rooster for Ricky Rudd.
Jaws for DW.
Tasmanian Devil for Ambrose
Fireball Roberts.
Trivia - Fireball Roberts got his nickname from baseball as a pitcher.
Richard Leroy Trickle had the best nickname
The “white knight “was great before arrived in nascar full time
I can understand the one for Marcos, he is technically Australian and had won their Supercars Championship twice before moving to NASCAR
Front Row Joe
The terry labonte radio thing is hilarious because at my 1st Nascar weekend I got to use my dad's scanner during practice and tuned into Terry because he was my mom's favorite driver. The first thing I heard was "what did you do to these fucking tires." So the Iceman would occasionally melt on the radio if he was pissed enough. 😂
Just like Kimi Raikkonen.
That's funny. Ice man was my favorite driver too.
@@jeremymenchaca “GLOVES!”
@@Ballin4Vengeance "MARK, GLOVES! "
"Steering Wheel! Gloves and Steering Wheel here! "
Man I'll admit I'm a bit disappointed to not me my boy Glenn Roberts on this list. He had an absolute "Fireball" of a personality. 3 stars.
I actually did not know his first name was Glenn, I've never heard him referred to as anything other than Fireball Roberts. Definitely should have made the list.
when i first read about him and his accident, i thought his nickname was some kind of joke. it turns out he got the nickname “fireball” because he could toss a hell of a fastball. unfortunately, he would live up to, and die by, his moniker
ALL UA-cam videos suffer from short-term memories!! I'm from SC. "Tiny" Lund gets a vote from me.
@@fishrocker95 perhaps that's why he didn't make it in the list
Or Alan Kulwicki
The Ice Man is the greatest nickname an athlete can get. It means your cool and smooth. George Gervin, Adam Vinateri, Scott Dixon, Kimi Raikkonen, and Terry Labonte are all similar in there demeanors, and they just put up results.
Kimi is pretty much the same way with the radio. "Leave me alone. I know what to do."
Chuck Lidell!
Alan "Polish Prince" Kulwicki is also good to mention, not only fitted his attitude and his country of origin but it also reminds me of a Polish candy bar, Prince Polo
Country of origin? He was born in Wisconsin. Ethnicity would be more accurate
@@gamemeister27 Maybe so, English isn't my main language so there may be errors
@@Anatoli_Punto It's a grey area that often gets into confusing discourse anyways
Terry's Iron Man car was so badass looking, but "Ice Man" was always the coolest name.
Edit: No pun intended initially, but it is now that I saw it.
“Jaws” DW is one of my favourite cause I remember DW talking about hating that nickname sometimes cause it got him in trouble with officials. Though I’ll always be a massive Petty fan so that’s my number 1. Just like BamBam Barcia in supercross or the doctor Rossi in MotoGP. Some nickname are earned rather than given
Cale gave him that nickname because he wouldn't shut up. Also Jaws the movie was popular at the time.
3:18 I just heard that Red Farmer is undergoing a medical procedure. Wishing the best for his recovery! I don’t know many that have raced all the way into their 80s.
Hershel McGriff made his debut in the 1950 Southern 500 and also raced in a K&N Pro Series West race in 2018 at age 90. This also means he has raced in NASCAR with both Red Byron (the first ever champion who never raced after 1951) and Hailie Deegan.
@@BrettMKW I’m familiar with him. It takes a lot of passion for people like him, Red, and the late James Hylton for pushing themselves to race for so long. You’d know they probably wouldn’t win at those ages, but you’d know for certain they would have the time of their lives behind the wheel.
@@Nitro55555 Oh they definitely couldn't win at the NASCAR level anymore. Last I heard Red was still winning races at the local short track level which to me is impressive enough. James Hylton passing away in an accident is a real tragedy for him to go out like he did after all that time racing. In 2013 he ran his last ARCA race and had a car capable of winning but finished 18th, so he definitely didn't have it in him to win anymore at NASCAR. But yeah, I definitely respect the guys who clearly race just for the love of it. I was just using McGriff as an example, he actually has the record for oldest guy to start a NASCAR sanctioned race and I'd bet there isn't anyone with a longer career than 68 years.
7:15.
"Aw, crap, the number's on wrong! Eh, he's Awesome Bill, he'll probably demolish the field anyway."
-Some crew member looking at the car on track.
"Swervin" Ernie Irvan is another good one
My favorite driver. Lol , Ernie hated that nickname!!!
Except only people who didn't like him called him that nickname.
YES!! Thats what i said!
I respect you S1ap, but how on earth did ‘Smoke’ miss the top 10?!
You watch slap and dankpods wow
I know I’m a smoke fan but
@@tonystewartfan2014 I could never have guessed.
Smoke is the top 5 imo
Not to mention his nickname is stupid.
Gotta to mention Darrell “jaws” Waltrip. So let’s go rancin boys
Rancin?
Boogerty boogerty boogerty 😂😂
One I’m shocked that didn’t make it
Kevin “Happy/Mr Where Did He Come From” Harvick
Roy “Buckshot” Jones
Kurt “The Outlaw” Busch
“Big Bad Brad” Keselowski
Alan “The Underbird” Kulwicki
Juan Pablo “Jetfire” Montoya
“Jamie Mac” Jamie McMurray
Let me guess where Juan got that nickname
Jet Dryer Montoya lmao
@@comengsh honestly I feel bad saying it now😂
He has another I believe but I couldn’t remember it
Also Junebug for Jamie Mac
@@tonystewartfan2014 Junebug was Darrell Waltrip's nickname for Dale Jr.
He didn't spend a ton of time in Cup but I love Mike "The Gunslinger" Skinner. His wife Angie still uses it on SiriusXM.
And off course he starts with *Mark Martin*
My favorite story of Ned Jarrett is him going to Dale Earnhardt at race 2 in 1993 after the Daytona 500. He apologizes to Earnhardt for his unprofessionalism in calling his son to victory, and not staying unbiased. Earnhardt told him not to apologize because he's a dad too.
3:14 this video the start of a 1966 nascar race! Notice Elmo Langley on the pole, a very rare sight and a huge mark for him as he scored his final pole in that race. Behind him is Ned Jarrett and beside Elmo is Curtis turner. He managed to win the pole over those two!
I’d personally put both “Smoke” and “The Gentle Giant” ahead of “The Kid”. I’ve been watching since 1990, I’ve never once heard Martin called The Kid.
Wasn't "The Kid" more for J. Gordon?
Well S1ap is biased too Mark Martin so let him have it
@@number1musichater430 Jeff Gordan was nicknamed Wonder Boy.
One of my corporate clients got to hang out with Dale Sr. on a sea cruise, way back when. Mr. Nichols reported to me that Dale was actually just a good ol' boy and not at all full of himself, a right nice guy to share a bar chat with on said cruise. I think that was another huge part of the man's appeal -- he was not pretentious. He was a regular bloke who just happened to be really really good at stock-car racing!
I'm kinda torn. As great as 'The Intimidator' is, I really love one of his others- IronHead.
“The Closer” for Kevin Harvick in my opinion has always been the most badass nickname how could you forget that 😭😭😭
This one is from before their time at the Cup scene but I always enjoyed Matt "The Brat" Kenseth. He'd roll up to the short tracks in the midwest and would just win or wreck somebody.
Darn it S1ap! Why does "The Rooster" Ricky Rudd not even get an honorable mention? I'm baffled!
Right. And he did get the title IRON MAN as well, when he broke Terry's record. Even if it has since been broken again.
My favorite part about Dale’s nick name is that in Virginia there is a roller coaster named The Intimidator at Kings Dominion and it is 305 ft tall. Before you go up the lift hill the speaker says “gentlemen start your engines”
There's also one at Carowinds on the North Carolina/South Carolina border just outside of Charlotte.
@@gaffneyrailroading1982 yeah But the one at kings dominion is better
_“Denny_ Hamlin is my favorite nickname.”
“what?… what do you mean?…”
*looks over to see James Dennis Alan Hamlin*
*dan n es hameltan*
Jimmie Hamlin
I know he wouldn't have made the top 10 but "Handsome" Harry Gant deserves at least an honorable mention nod.
Harry Gant had the best nicknames; Handsome Harry, High-Groove Harry, Hard-Luck Harry, The Bandit, and Mr. September. Pick one!
If you're wondering how he got the name Mr. September; in September 1991, there were four scheduled Cup series races and two scheduled Busch (Xfinity series) races, and Harry Gant won all of them.
@@lorddrac_dontaskmetodance and what's amazing is that he was winning races at an age where most drivers would be at a decline
Been a NASCAR fan for a long time and never heard Mark "The Kid" Martin before. He wasn't ever a youthful looking guy either. Learned something new today.
Yea, I knew he was a smaller stature guy...but just hadn't heard it used really.
Kyle Busch embraced his nickname Rowdy so much he uses it above the windows instead of his actual name and for his personal energy name brand (Rowdy Energy)
Awesome Bill from Dawsonville and his son Awesome Chase in 2nd place (from his rookie season when he finished 2nd so many times in a row before getting his first w)
I always heard it as, Awesome Bill from Dawsonville, and his son, Mediocre Chase from the exact same place.
I think Harvick has a couple of good ones that could have been honorable mentions. "The Closer" and "Happy" are pretty cool.
You can’t have the the name “The Intimidator” and not be the coolest driver ever.
I believe DW gave Matt Kenseth the name "The Silent Assassin". Pretty awesome name
Sad that he forgot "The Outlaw" Kurt Busch, but nonetheless a great video, Slap!
Darrell Waltrip’s nickname “Jaws” deserves an honorable mention here too
I just pulled up to the dispensary and I'm gonna be in line for a minute. Thank you for the perfectly timed post
hell yeah
You're so cool for smoking weed.
How’d the dispo run go my guy
@@sdsd2e2321 my mom's proud :)
How did you miss Fireball Roberts?
might be because he died in a giant fireball
These UA-cam videos suffer from short-term memories. Tiny Lund should get a mention also.
I noticed that you left "Happy" Harvick out which I find a glaring omission because well, Harvick IS smiling 95% of the time even when upset.
This day is officially better than Christmas
yeah. I got mostly chlothes for Christmas bec everyone thinks I'm too old for toys or anything that's actually fun. Way better than christmas
Alan Kulwicki "Polish Prince" Or "Special K" also a fun or cool nicknames.
And his race car the "Underbird"
Missed out on "The Closer" Kevin Harvick or even "Red Rooster" Ricky Rudd
There was a stretch where I called Harvick "The Imitator" because it seemed he was trying a little too hard to live up to Dale Earnhardt's reputation.
Harvick's best nickname is Happy.
The Intimidator name speaks enough for itself.
I like Mark Martin's other nickname: "Mr. Intensity"
Wasn't Rockingham sometimes called "Markingham" due to his number of wins there?
Ok great list. Honorable mention: Swervin' Irvan (Ernie Irvan) and Rocketman (Ryan Newman)
Crazy to think, the last Alabama Gang member to still be racing is Red Farmer. First to retire from Nascar but last to give it up completely. Can't go to Talladega Short Track without seeing him out there with that famous F97.
Davey and Clifford Allison dying prematurely certainly didn't help.
Such lively characters. Great history lesson. Thank you.
Brock Beard came up with some awesome nicknames for the various drivers when he was doing his starting grids...
Like "That Sexy Son of A Bitch" Scott Pruett
When you said Petty was #2, I realized who #1 was going to be and got a little teary eyed..
I knew The King and The Indimidator would be 1 & 2. I just didn't know which order you would place them.
Drivers: "Fireball" Roberts, "Sliced Bread", "The Closer". Cars: "Gray Ghost", "Silver Bullet". Team: "Rainbow Warriors".
The rainbow warriors was a good one but when Darrell Waltrip drove the tide car and he had a victory lane interview and started talkin bout nicknames, he said he'd heard folks sayin "If tide can clean yall up it can clean up anything" and that folks had been callin their team "Waddell Wilson and the Bleach Boys" that cracked me up and still does everytime I see that interview... I think its on his Nascar Hall of fame biography on the "Nascar all out" (NAO) channel if you haven't seen it... all those videos are good to watch
Rowdy’s also a tribute to Bobby hamilton. Hence why he drives the 51 in the truck series (Bobby hamilton drove the “rowdy” Burns car in Days of thunder)
Respect
I've never been a Nascar fan, but your videos are high quality and they remind me of my dad.
The only time I ever remember my dad crying was when Earnhardt died.
Honorable Mention: Kurt Busch "The Outlaw"
At my local racetrack(Wall Stadium), we have a street stock driver by the name of Elliott Wohl. He’s of a um…bigger stature, so he was affectionately given the name “Big El” Elliott Wohl.
Here're some nicknames from F1:
Juan Manuel Fangio "El Maestro"
Mika Hakkinen "The Flying Finn"
Kimi Raikkonen "The Iceman"
Alain Prost "The Professor,"
Jacques Villeneuve "Goldilocks"
Michael Schumacher "Golden Gonads"
Carlos Sainz Junior "Smooth Operator/Chili"
Carlos Reutemann "Lole"
Golden golads?!
I think The Rainmaster would've been a better name
@@thesfdoctor3603 well, that was a nickname that was coined in my first full year of following the sport, 1997.
"In the blue corner, we've got Goldilocks, and in the red corner, golden gonads himself,"
Martin Brundle
Besides, the term "rainmaster," was first coined for Ayrton Senna. The Germans came up with the nickname "Wunderkind," (Wonder Kid) in his early years
What about Sergio "Checo" Perez
@@RBMapleLeaf I think a better, more recent nickname would be "Mexican Minister of Defence," but personally, given the number of times he has achieved great results by preserving his tyres, I'd give him the nickname "Tyre Whisperer"
@@SiVlog1989 Well I would gone for both however since he is given Checo already it would seem logical to say that but again I'll leave that up to debate with no resistance towards anyone.
New slap video..... im in! Merry Christmas y'all 🇺🇸
"Rainbow Warrior" Jeff Gordon
Great name, and nice because it was a shared name with his team.
Ralph was dubbed Ironheart for the way he raced and very early in Dale Sr’s career he was called Ironhead for the way he raced.
Great list! Happy, the Closer Harvick probably could have made an honorable mention
Finally someone said it
Slap finally giving Earnhardt some credit! 🙏
Thanks for sharing! However, I am disappointed that Fireball Roberts did not make the list. His real name was Edward Glenn Roberts, but having that nickname made him sound so much cooler.
He was even call this on TV as it was quicker to say. Then his full name.
Of course after I finish doing a pain staking NASCAR slide show for myself for nicknames in NASCAR, Slapshoes makes a video about the top ten NASCAR Nicknames. Great.........
I felt this
4:38 19 miles! That's some "I spammed the road rally races in Gran Turismo 4 and fully upgraded a car just to turn all of the beginner series into my own personal Washington Generals on Ambien" stuff right there.
When S1ap uploads its a good day
Just gonna use this space to show some nickname love to Jimmy "Smut" Means and Herman "The Turtle" Beam.
One of the real MVP's uploading Nascar content the Sunday after Christmas. Thank you!
Ricky "The Rooster" Rudd is the best nickname IMHO.
Dang! Gotta sneak Ricky Rudd in there “The Rooster”
I've said it before on another vid... this is some of the best content on UA-cam bar none. More entertaining, educational, nostalgia inducing and just reminds many of us why we have loved NASCAR for so long (with exception of how it has become and not as interesting or entertaining as it was.. IMHO) .. so with all that said, well done S1ap... again, your content is better than 90% of the trash MSM puts out. Best wishes for 2022 and keep up the great work.
I always liked the nickname “Fatback Mcswain”
Happy Harvick or The Closer, not even an honorable mention…but the Fury from Danbury did? Wow
Awesome Bill from Dawsonville. Awesome Chase from the same place
Smoke being left off is blasphemous, especially considering he won 3 titles, in the Winston, Nextel, and Sprint Cup eras no less
Most people don't like him, but Joey "Sliced Bread" Logano is a pretty epic nickname.
I love the “ ALABAMA GANG & THE SILVER FOXS. There’s some notorious about the Alabama Gang to me.
That was great! I liked Earnhardt’s Iron Head nickname as well.
He also went by Charger
Iron Head was a jab at Earnhardt by the older drivers. He did his best to get rid of it.
@@jasonwiggins6137 my understanding was Bobby Allison gave it to him after knocking the boiler plate wall down at Pocono. Might’ve been a dig but it fit him lol
@@jimmy_olds Yeah. Bobby said he was so hard headed, it was made of iron.
amazing vid as always s1ap, i honestly want to see you make a video on the 2001 pepsi 400, probably one of the most storybook endings of all times
Darrel Waltrip being nicknamed “Jaws” is one of the most fitting names in my opinion
Totally agree with this list! But shouldn’t Jaws been mentioned… also, the only driver who wasn’t intimidated by Dale Sr. was Jeff Gordon. I think he knew not to overthink it and Jeff knew his car well enough to let Dale pass if he had the faster car.
The pass in the grass always make me think WTF? He didn't even pass him in the grass lol
What about Cotton Owens, “King of the Modifieds” he has the most wins in a single nascar division at over 200 modified wins. He also won 19 of the 23 races in 1949.
Or “Cotton” his birth name is Everett
You're my favorite but im hurt that the rooster, smoke, mr. September, jaws, and the mayor didn't make it. Like what the heck. These are what came to mind when i read the title
Merry Christmas Slap and everyone watching.
Can't forget the legend, Mr September Harry Gant. Oldest winner ever and lived in the high line!!
Another Awesome video Slap. I think the list was perfect except not including Jaws. Apart from that it was pretty darn good. Thanks Man. 👍👍👍
A s1ap upload is always a good one!
Follow up video, nickname's for people who haven't or nickname's for people if you see a future in a driver. Really enjoyed this.
One that I like and it really only gets used by Mike Joy is the Pied Piper when referring to Dale Jr.
Great vid s1ap some of these nicknames I didn’t even know awesome keep it up
Thanks Slap for the video I didn't know I wanted
Thanks for posting during the holidays I know you've been working hard as a mailman. Happy holidays and thanks.
Saw an awesome clip of RC talking about how Gm Goodwrench wanted a blue car, Richard painted it half blue and half black and how their logo popped better. They agreed and let them paint it black.
Great video man
Jim Spencer. Mr excitement. That’s a funny as hell name to have.
Another Great vid S1ap
Would love to see some kinda video on the Winston million you the man slap!! Keep up the great work an video!!
