It is very dry here in Calgary so I use Stretto (for cello) in the case and maintain a relative humidity of 50-55%. The bows and rosin enjoy this environment too. The neck separated from my bas due to cold and dry temps a few years bask so I take no chances. Your luthier knows your cellos and will have the best advice.
This couldn't have come at a better time. I went out of town for a week. And when I came home, my furnace was out. No heat in the house, dry, and 52 degrees. I haven't been running humidifiers. But, this situation has made me rethink that. I took my cello over to my quartet people's house, and they are keeping it with their instruments. The "part" is supposed to be in today. It's been a cold week slowly warming my house up to the 60s with two small space heaters. Hopefully, getting a couple humidifiers will help alleviate the trauma when I bring my cello back home. Thanks for this video!
Hey, i am really happy to watch your guide, i saw all of your you tube channel videos, some of them many times over and over, even i am beginner with a 4 months of progress i just had to try this tune cause i am imnlove with it, but seeing that some of your tutorials has over 20 min duration and this one only 7,can you please please make another one longer with much deeper details???? Like you said at the end u ll do, for a Elgar Cello Concerto 1st movement, if i know correctly E Minor? ?? Please
Mirko TheCello hi and thanks for watching!! Which piece is it that you wanted a longer video for? I did make a video for the Elgar concerto first and second movements. Fourth movement is coming up tomorrow.
@@Inbalsegevcello thank you so much for replying,i was thinking about the very first movement ,it starts with chords ,open G,E-B,and the way i am attracted to watch your videos is because i like how do you explain the moves and bowing for each note, how will sounds, etc so it really would help me to sound better and also i do like a lot your slides from note to note ,here is your link of video that i wanted to see in much deeper details,of course if you are willing to spend some time to help us, ua-cam.com/video/_FDhMTmxBnE/v-deo.html , thanks in advanced
MusicaAngela hi, I use a dampit ( the green snake-like) when I travel in winter but not at home. I do keep my cello in the case when I don’t practice to protect it from sun light and kids...
@@Inbalsegevcello ok good. I do both of those things too. A few years ago I tried a different kind of humidifier for inside of my case but never really figured out how to use it. I use a double bass dampit but always squeeze and dry it as much as possible.

What about a humidifier in your cello case? Do you use one? Do you always keep your cello in a case when you are not practicing?

Not only will cello suffer aesthetically, i noticed the sound quality becomes Tinny and hoarse when in a low humidity setting
