Everyone who does Crossfit and uses the rowing machine often needs to watch a full instruction on how to row properly, it is a movement that when done improperly can cause a lot of lower back pain, stress fractures in the ribs and shoulder and knee issues. Just like any other movement in Crossfit and in fitness in general rowing requires a lot of attention. When you watch The Games many competitors' technique is very poor and should not be taken as an example, but most people don't know that because they've never been instructed by a rowing coach or been in a rowing/sculling boat before. As a competitive rower myself I would highly recommend looking into this.

I rowed "improperly" for years before i started crossfit because i was never corrected and never had a ounce of back pain. 4 years into it Crossfit, loads better and still no back pain.

paul dav so depending on your height, weight, and somewhat your strength, rowing can be a little different. What is left unmentioned in this video is the fact that you can lean even farther back to pull just a little more. Also, when you want to row fast, focus on driving yourself out with the legs, then pausing and letting the flywheel catch up. The speed at which you go back and forth doesn't determine how fast you go as much as how you push with your legs.
