Afro-Asia's biggest arts & culture festival - Virāsat.
Welcome to Virasat 2023, a cultural and heritage festival that celebrates Indian and international folk and classical dance, music, arts and crafts, and heritage. The festival is organized by REACH (Rural Entrepreneurship for Art & Cultural Heritage) and supported by various sponsors and partners. The festival will take place from 27 October to 10 November 2023 in Dehradun, Uttarakhand.
Rakesh Chaurasia ji is a flute player coming from an excellent family tradition. He is one of the most accomplished disciples of his uncle, flute player Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia ji. His extraordinary talent and dedication makes him a talented artist. His training in ‘swar’ and ‘taal’ is reflected in the proficiency in his work. Rakesh ji has displayed his talent many times across the world. Has entertained audiences in classical and semi-classical music festivals in Japan, Australia, Europe, South Africa and the US. He is also an accomplished musician, having recorded with most of the major stalwarts of the Indian film industry.
He was invited to conclude a twenty-four-hour live music broadcast to audiences around the world on BBC Radio celebrating the Silver Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth. Despite his experimental work, Rakesh ji never deviated from his main goal of becoming a complete classical musician. He has been regularly appearing at major festivals like WOMAD Festival in Athens, ‘Festivals of India’ in Russia, Japan, USA and Europe. His growing maturity and status has earned him invitations to perform solo at major events in India and abroad such as the Saint-Denis Festival in Paris, the Leicester International Music Festival in England.
He was awarded the Indian Music Academy Award by the Indian President, Honorable A.P.J Abdul Kalam in 2007, the Birla Kalakiran Award in 2008 and the Guru Shishya Award in 2011.
Rakesh Chaurasia ji believes that he still needs to learn a lot from his uncle Shri Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia ji and other experts in this art. He has the ability to create a new identity for himself in Indian classical music. Mithilesh Kumar Jha took the lessons of Tabla from his father Gopikant Jha and later from Bulbul Maharaj. He also had the privilege of receiving constant guidance from sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan. Mithilesh has since continued performing with singers and instrumentalists in India and abroad.
