Congratulations! It is time to call in your buddies. Vonnie’s world famous pies, plenty of great food for bait should help. Thanks Martin, nice to be able to tag along.
Martin , Please don’t do all this on your own. Anything could happen when you’re out there alone. You amaze me!! I have to remind myself to I’m not in my 20s anymore 😢. Staying active is good. Congrats on your start of your new Cabin 🎉🎉
Linemen operate alone. After a storm I asked a fella if it would be safer in teams. He listed a handful of reasons working alone is safer, especially in dangerous situations. You’re doing great @TheNorthwoodsman1 keep up the great work!
Excellent, congrats on setting your first log !!! Please bring in the help you had signed-up so you dont hurt yourself during the construction. Looking forward to your progress vids as it comes up. Best of luck and take care of yourself so you can enjoy it. Regards, Adirtondack Nick
I sure wish you had at least 4 more guys with you while you are doing all this hard work. Worried something could happen to you there by yourself. With lots of determination, you did it. I was holding my breath watching you do it.Please be careful. God bless you and Vonnie in all y’all in all that y’all go.From deep Southeast Mississippi.
It is outstanding to see that first log being put into place. Late summer, or early fall I hope to be done with the dreaded chemo. I if so, I would enjoy being part of that work crew for a week. 👍
Good morning Martin. Congratulations on the first log going up. You have prepared for this day for four long years. It’s so rewarding to be able to see all of this.
One down, a bunch to go! It is a start to a beautiful guest cabin. I bet you're happy after a few years of preparation. All the work will be worth it when all is said and done. I'm sure you got some help in the future. Have a great week.😁
Interesting watch Martin slow and steady wins the race congrats on the first log . You must be lifting weights at the gym well done . Time to call in David to give ya a hand . that was good old fashion planning to place that log. be safe Martin take care see ya on the next one .
I pray that you will enjoy many years in your cabin, Martin. Many years of fellowship, happiness, relaxation and the Glory of Almighty God’s creation that surrounds you!
A Martin Video always makes you smile. It is one of the stables of every Saturday Morning with coffee. Martin will you please ask Vonnie to make a video making Coleslaw? Mine is so terrible that I need help making a wonderful tasting Coleslaw.
You, sir, are a blessing. I have enjoyed your videos for years now. I am going to posit that, even though I am a 1960 model, you may be slightly my senior. I am sure I cannot keep up with you... Thank you for all the effort that goes into making the videos and sharing your life. Best!
Great job Martin, your brave to tackle this project alone. Be carful working alone. Love your videos. Time to bring in your worker bee's. I get tiered just watching you.
Good Afternoon! Congratulations on putting the first log on your cabin. Please ask someone to help you with the build. GOD' Bless you and your whole family. Amen :)
Hello Martin, where's your buddy Jim? I enjoy when you too are hanging out, It brings back memories of my friends, they're all gone now,we enjoyed sitting around the fire talking about the old days, the wife shes gone also just memories left and me! I moved to a new place and were its hard to connect to people, but your show reminds me of the good times so keep it up.
Can't quite figure why you're placing first row on the rocks. You're quite the engineer but boy, you go about it the hard way. I'm sure it will come along when your crew arrives. Keep up the good work.
The boulders will keep the bottom logs off the ground and they will last a long time. On the old cabin I had to jack it up and put boulders under it as the bottom two logs had rotted away.
Man alive...buy a Polaris 570 side by side with a wench. It has the power and four wheel drive to move those logs. Save your back. Plus the 570 with correct tires does well in the snow. You can use it 12 months a year vs. That snow dog.
That Snowdog cost $3000, can't imagine the cost of a hefty side by side. In my area and trails the side by side would be of little use with all the bog and narrow trails balanced on a beaver dam. Kind of a limited situation around my cabin.
Daft old so and so ! well if you're going to do it, you're going to do it, good luck to to you. At least that slow winch gives you time to get a breath !
Martin, I'm sure if vonnie watches this video, your going to get a scalding. You should wait for your crew of workers to help you. But as always, your ĝoing to do it yourself. Be careful...
You should fill up the under-gaps with the rock.... cement them together for stable footing my friend!!>!...!!...Please I'm just commenting.....I have no experience in construction!!!>....peace!!
What's missing here is a horse!!!.....Shouldn't you do the footing first?!?!?....I dunno i'm not a construction guy!!....Ok i'm gonna shut up now...Thank you Martin!!!....Your the best my friend!!....If i could....I would love to be there with you and help a little!!!....Seems to be some hard work!!
Martin, is this cabin going to be the same dimensions as your original cabin? I'm looking at the stones but I can't determine if its bigger or the same size. Either way, its looking good!

that is the plan and it is working out well.
Martin, Congratulations on putting the first log up for the new Cabin! A lot of hard work and perseverance to get here. 💪
A nice start and the plan is working. Crew coming in this fall to finish.
Amazes me how one man, after careful planning, Can do a crews work! Love the video Martin! Well Done :-)
I am now ready for the crew to come on Sept. 30 to put it up.
Martin , Please don’t do all this on your own. Anything could happen when you’re out there alone. You amaze me!! I have to remind myself to I’m not in my 20s anymore 😢. Staying active is good. Congrats on your start of your new Cabin 🎉🎉
I have a lot of help coming this fall for the real build. I am just getting things ready.
@@TheNorthwoodsman1 Amen to that 😋
good job Martin, i really wish you'd wait for help though.
I am waiting, this was just getting things set up for them to come and erect the walls and roof.
@@TheNorthwoodsman1 Alright brother, i know you can operate but it's all in the name of safety.
Well, well, lookey there!
Martin, you’re unbelievable. Keep up the good work!
Thanks 👍
A welcome treat for first cup of coffee, great video, much appreciated.
Glad to provide.
It’s unbelievable what can be moved with rollers, been using them all my life. Nice job, stay safe.
Some think I have an Egyptian ancestry.
Great video. Can't wait to see the finished product. I'll be here for every video. Thank you. 👍🏻
Getting things prepped for the crew coming in this fall.

Where is the building crew ?? Please don't do it by yourself , if one falls on you there is no one to help you
They will be there this fall for the real fun when the walls go up.
Awesome job

A nice crew is coming in this fall.
I bet if you put out there the when and where you’d have a crew in no time. Be safe. And congratulations on the first logs. Truly an accomplishment.
The word is out and the crew is growing. Walls go up Sept.30.

So do I.
Nice to see the footage from the beautiful woods before the bugs got bad. And they seem to be thicker than usual this year. Have a good week!
A couple were heading into the cabin this week and I warned them,]. Waiting for a report.
@@TheNorthwoodsman1 good luck to them.
Love how you find a way to get it done.
I have been prepping for years and nice to see I can make it work
Good morning Martin. Congratulations on the first log going up. You have prepared for this day for four long years. It’s so rewarding to be able to see all of this.
You got that right.
Great work.I love how you think like an egyptian.😅 Keep them coming we love cabin time!
Next thing Martin will build a pyramid in his back yard
I do have a lot of big boulders that I need to get into the cabin.
Talk about "one step at a time". I envy you sir.
I do have a lot of fun at that cabin,

That's the plan!
New cabin will be so nice. Great video.
Sept.30 the crew. Will be there.
Must of felt good to get the first log on. Like seeing all the ideas your coming up with. Stay safe and good luck with the cabin. Take care, Al
I must admit, I sat back that evening very happy with the view.
All your time at the gym has really made you strong and limber. These videos really show that. Good for you!
WOrks for me!
Great work! as usual.
Me thinks it’s time for a small tractor 🚜 or 4wheeler 😮
Can't get such things through the bogs so we make do.
Wow, If you are going to get a couple of rounds up this spring by yourself......... hope that you have LOTS of cherry pies, caramel rolls and coffee.
One round was my goal and I did it. Crew can now really go to town this fall.
Wish I was there. You’ll have it all built by the time I get there in September!
After this I did put the two cross logs on but now am waiting for you and the others.
Great job Martin. Don’t kill yourself. We need people like you in America.
Crew coming in this fall.

Wow, it's like watching Dick Proenneke live! It's going g to be really nice building your own cabin!
Coming along fine and now when Sept 30 gets here it will go up easily with a good crew.

Wow, thanks
A couple of snatch blocks, one on the log and another on an anchor tree would make moving those logs easier. Great job. you are an inspiration. -mike
I have a few snatch blocks that will be used as needed this fall.
Outstanding! 🐾🙏🏻✌🏻
Thanks
If I wasn't so far away I would volunteer my services. I can't wait to see the progression on the cabin build!
You, me and many more.
Lots of planning and prepping and now the first logs. I'm really looking forward to watching the build.
Sept. 30 the help comes in to put the walls up.
Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks

Wow, that’s cool that you are starting your new cabin. 😊Glad to see.
Good to have made the start.
Mornig Martin... great to see the process 👍☕️
Make my day too.
Some parts of Northern MN got 5 plus inches of rain in the past few days. Praying that your road into the cabin and the cabin itself are ok.
I feel most of the heavy rain was east of my area.
pure class.
Thanks
Good Afternoon! Congratulations on putting the first log on your cabin. Please ask someone to help you with the build. GOD' Bless you and your whole family. Amen :)
Thank you, I will
I'm surprised you didn't use tripod to lift the log, as clever as you are.
As I moved on I put a chain high between two trees and attach the winch to that.
Congratulations on the first log. It's been a long time coming, but you made it.
Thank you very much!
Nice video Martin. Your a hard working man.
Help is coming this fall
awesome job

I like your new hat you made
Jams the radio signals too.
Where's Jim ? is he in a seniors home dreaming about the cherry pie and watching you do the cabin by yourself...lol

Hooray cabin build,!
Hey this channel is really taking off... congrats.
Always a mystery to me why some of the other channels have such high numbers. UA-cam teaches that if we make good stuff it will happen,
tickles me to see all your planning come to fruition, behind every good man is woman that makes great cherry pie, thxs for sharing...

Yeah , it's slow but sure gets the job done.
Hopefully the logs haven't floated away with all the rain we have gotten lately
It may have made an island around the cabin yard but the logs are safe.
They be big logs Martin maybe an extra cherry pie needed lol
Any pies make for an uplift.

Outstanding video
Glad you liked it
Good work. Are you using some of the same techniques that you used when you worked on the pyramids? 😇
Yes I am!
Nothing like an old D9 CAT.
Martin style.
How is Vonnie?
I do like manual processes, simple tools and simple techniques.
Inspirational. Thankyou sir.
You are welcome.
l used to Roll 40feet X 24inch X 16inch English Oak Beams around on 2 empty 13kg gas bottles!....But Looking Good Martin...
Amazing isn't it. When these logs are wet they can run you over.
I would have laid the rocks flat to stack the logs on.
I was after a better view from inside the cabin and this will give me a crawl space with plenty of ventilation.
You should fill up the under-gaps with the rock.... cement them together for stable footing my friend!!>!...!!...Please I'm just commenting.....I have no experience in construction!!!>....peace!!
I have already done more of that and more to come
Have you squared them corner to corner? Looking good👍
Yes, 22 feet 1 inch. I was getting the time consuming things out of the way early.
Nice job, Martin. Like kids play ? You need help. It would go a lot faster. Just my opinion. 👍👍👍💪
A lot of help signed up for Sept. 30 build.
By getting the first tier of logs in position I now am putting in more foundation boulders under them
A couple of extra fellas sure would make this a lot easier.
They are coming this fall, I am just getting some of the time consuming things done now.
Aliens built the pyramids.
Martin: Hold my beer
🍺
Amazing what can be done with simple mechanics.
would a few folding metal saw horses be useful? Roll the logs on to them to do your notching? just in case you hadn't thought of it.
Now that the bottom tier is in position we will just cut the notches there.
Martin you sure could use some help. Not that your not capable. It's very dangerous an heavy work. Please be careful my friend.
A lot of help coming this fall.
Darn Martin, watching you do all this work is making me tired, it's got to be break time.
Sounds like my cabin stays. More rest breaks each year.
@@TheNorthwoodsman1 i must say, you're one hard worker.
Martin, I admire your determination and tenacity, but in all seriousness, you need way more help than doing it yourself.
Sept; 30 a good crew comes to put the cabin up.
Please Martin get some help. I don't want you to hurt yourself.
Help is willing but the scheduling is always hard.
Martin, is this cabin going to be the same dimensions as your original cabin? I'm looking at the stones but I can't determine if its bigger or the same size. Either way, its looking good!
Just a little bigger.
It wouldn't hurt to drill a hole in the log into the rock
put a steel rod through both would be more secure
just sayin
I will be pinning as we go up and more rock pillars will add to the stability of the base.
Those logs don’t appear to have a “light” end. Maybe a”less heavy” end. It’s getting exciting around there!!!
You noticed.
im in minneapolis , happy to help. let me know.
I am building a list . thenorthwoodsman10@gmail.com

Always
Martin, why did you go for such tall rocks? Less than half that tall would have done the job, also there should be at least one more pier at the midpoint. I want a higher view from inside the cabin so put the boulders on end. I have already added midpoint pillars and will have even more when done.
