It's one of my top 5 Christmas movies along with Home Alone, Batman Returns, Jingle All The Way, and A Christmas Story. It's underappreciated and deserves a blu ray release
This movie and snowman never came across as creepy to me. I'm honestly surprised to learn so many people think this movie was bad. I've always loved it.
I love Jack Frost. I don’t care what critics say. It has feels, it has humor, it reminds me to avoid places that has seasons. I watched it twice this season.
Jack Frost 98 is indeed a wonderful Christmas movie and I love to watch it around Christmas time often. The movie can be slow at times but it has lots of sweet moments in it and I enjoy the whacky Christmas themes of the film. Thank you for giving this movie a nice review! I always enjoy your channel.
I remember loving this movie due to the connection I had with the main character. I lost my dad at a young age and this movie was a lot more impactful due to that connection. I also remember browsing my local Blockbusters and finding it weird that there were two Jack Frost movies of different genres. I definitely think it's a corny family feel good film, but worth a watch.
Same for me. The difference is my young nephews lost their dad my brother in law. I’m kind of emotional watching it. Now they are grown up but still enjoy watching this movie
It's funny this Jack Frost looks creepier than the horror movie version. Still, it's a unintentionally funny movie. Micheal Keaton still pulls in a great performance.
I enjoy this movie as a kid, and I recently watched it again as an adult, and I realized that this movie is really more of showing how to process grief and how to move on. I mean OK I’m sure a lot of people caught onto that but some people catch on more than others.
This is my absolute favorite movie of Michael Keaton’s he did a wonderful job. It is one of my favorite movies to watch around Christmas time. Continue to RIP Kelly Preston she was a beautiful soul❤️❤️
I've always enjoyed this movie. It's a strong story that shows how grief can come and go no matter how long it's been, but eventually you have to let go and keep going. Also, in regards to Minty's comments on the look of the sets looking strange for the day time, that actually is what day time can look like when it's really snowing. Also, sometimes when it's snowing at night time it can actually look lighter than normal. It's a little hard to fully explain. One of those things you'd have to see to understand.
I don't think Jack Frost looks creepy! I love this movie! Sweet story, good cast, including Henry Rollins, formerly of Black Flag, Mark Addy, who was great in A Knight's Tale, the kid playing Charlie is great and you can't go wrong with Michael Keaton! My family has this movie in our DVD collection, and it's a Christmas favorite!
@@nickross7922 lol! I had almost the same reaction. I had a flashback to their concert in the 80s as part of a farewell to an old, famous, Theater venue in Miami, that was going to be torn down. I love this movie! It's become one of my favorite holiday movies. I'm a big Michael Keaton fan too. Thank you for covering this one Minty. I love the video! ❤️⛄
I've always loved this Jack Frost movie. Never viewed the snowman puppet as horrifying or creepy either. Honestly, I could never take Roger Ebert too seriously sometimes but that's another story. lol It's kind of sad that this is so disliked because it's really sweet and well-made. It's definitely not magnificent but I think it accomplished its story goals. Also, I disagree with several criticisms because it's very memorable and touching to me. The ending never fails to tear me up a bit. I absolutely consider it a holiday classic too and watch it every Christmas season. I'm also very thankful it was easy to find on home video. ☃💙 Nice video, Minty although I wasn't crazy about some aspects.
I always enjoyed this movie... Michael Keaton could entertain me if he was filmed reading a newspaper... And who didn't love watching Kelly Preston light up the screen? And of course Michael sang the songs himself... He was playing a struggling musician... If he had an absolutely outstanding voice it wouldn't be as believable... So making the character have a good voice without being stellar helps to further sell the character... This movie will forever have a special place in my heart 💖... Thanks Minty for doing a retrospective of this one...😊💙
I found this video because we realized it was a puppet and looked it up to confirm. Super awesome work. So now I’m looking for behind the scenes of how it was made
I never found the snowman, in Jack Frost, to be scary or creepy. It's not one of my favorite holiday movies. But, I like it and have watched it a couple of times. It's got a heart-warming quality, but isn't overly corny and has some really funny moments.
I have always loved this movie. Always made me smile and cry some. My kids grew up loving it as well. Always thought it was a shame it wasn't more popular. I even own it on vhs.
I saw this movie when it came out as I was working at a video store. I honestly enjoyed it exactly for what it was. A simple fairy tale of a father getting a second chance to reconnect and say goodbye to his son. It still makes me a little misty-eyed in the end. And I wanna see Jack Frost 3: Jack Frost in Space! "It's always cold in space... just how Jack likes it!"
My all time favourite Christmas movie also after losing my mom in 2018 still makes me think of her and my aunt who have passed it’s a beautiful movie and deserves more than 5 stars. Plus the snowman graphics were pretty good for its time.
I love this movie, but then again I am a HUGE Micheal Keaton fan, I never thought of it as a horror movie, I loved it then and still do.Micheal Keaton is a chameleon and is adorable
You forgot to mention that the horror Jack Frost vhs cover was lenticular with one image looking like a regular snowman and the other being the killer version.
Thanks, Minty. This was a favorite of mine. Like a lot of people, I saw it on tv, and not at the theater. Your review makes me want to see it again. Im going to make it a covid date night with my wifie. Maybe turn the air conditioning way down, to set the theme! Youre the Best, Minty!
While I'll agree that it's not a terrible movie, I gotta say that I still think 'Casper' has better effects and pacing. That said; it was still a good video! Also, bonus fact; the reason the singing sounds so good is because Micheal Keaton sings and plays harmonica in real life, and that band in the scene is his own, real band! They were touring prior to the filming! =)
I agreed. I actually liked it pretty much. I thought it was really enjoyable. The acting was good, the cast were fine, particularly Michael Keaton gets me few chuckles, and I also thought the special effects and the puppet of Jack Frost the snowman was so impressive. Anyway, it was a fun, cheerful, playful christmas movie. Failure, but enjoyable. Thumbs up for me on "Jack Frost". Jack Frost (1998) 3/4 👍👍
OMG! That horror movie caused so much trouble at the video store I used to work at. People would rent it thinking it was a family movie despite it being located in the Horror section, and then get mad at us for not warning them.
Love the video as always, Minty. Just an FYI, but we do get plenty of snow here in California! In fact, ski resorts right now are enjoying some great snowfall :-)
Guy 1: "Hey, was Jack Frost any good?" Guy 2: "S-No-Man, see what I did there??" Guy 1: "Okay, Batman it is then......" Morgan Freeman voice over "That was but one of many disappointments they would have to endure"
I knew of this movie but never watched it before. I decided to sit down and see after watching your video. I really enjoyed it. The premise is strange but I completely got the sentiment behind the film.
I used to always rent this from blockbuster when i was a little kid and apparently I would cry everytime I watched it. And I would tell my family that "it's just too sad"
Michael Keaton is worth the price of the ticket alone... People need to realize that people are sad at holiday time.... I could not watch this after the loss of my mother not even 4 years after my dad passed in 09.... The end was one of those that make you wonder how he kept it together...
My family enjoys watching this movie around the holidays, but I can take it or leave it. My dad died close to Christmas. He fell off the roof hanging Christmas lights. So, any movie depicting the death of a father within a a holiday theme can be emotionally difficult. But, this movie is very sensitive to the issue and approaches it well. Any child who loses a parent in such an unexpected way I'm sure would jump at the chance to spend a little more time with their loved one.
My daughter and I LOVED this movie when she was growing up & she never thought he was scary looking at all. Her father wasn’t dead, but he was never around from the time she could remember up until she had grown up. He’s dead now, but she literally has no memories of him at all. So I think she kinda identifies with losing your dad & this was just something positive for her. I thought Keaton did a great job in the movie.
I always thought Michael Keaton looked supremely evil. He is who I picture when I think of a super villain, long before he was a Vulture. When I first saw the trailer for Batman as a kid, I thought he would've been a great Joker.
I think it's a very memorable movie. I keep looking for it. The media keeps putting the stupid horror films above it but I saw it once and I loved it and I want to see it again. To me that's the definition of memorable. It's been over 20 years and I still want to see Michael Keaton as Jack Frost.
I felt that this movie was more sad than scary. I loved “The Snowman” when I was a little kid...they used to show it on the Disney Channel 30 years ago.
I actually like Jack Frost and Casper lol. Jack Frost is probably in my top 5 of Christmas movies behind Jingle All the Way, Home Alones, and Live action Grinch. I always grouped the movie with Iron Giant I don't know why. They did poor at the box office but still love I guess and were in the late 90's.
I had to try to explain this and the horror version at work a few days ago. Trying to explain that two movies with the same title and similar premise was so hard. People were like "Michael Keaton was a bad guy and dad who played in a band and came back to life to hang out with his son and murder people?!"
I think the movie suffered from the “Uncanny valley” effect. Even though by todays standards it doesn’t look “too real” back then it was creepy. They should have made his features more primitive
Yes an no it could even be down to how they advertised the movie an what came out with it. Hollywood got sick of making good stuff that down the road gets a following. Now were left with the remake hell we are stuck in of give us ur money
The consensus back in the day was that the family-friendly Jack Frost looked scarier than the horror movie, and that seems to be the film's leading reputation. I agree it does have heart but the crude 90's dialogue and humor, like Jack being happy that his balls were freezing, dated and harmed the movie even then. Still, can't fault Keaton, he keeps the movie watchable.
Jack Frost has always been a childhood favourite movie of mine watched it so many times on vhs definitely an underrated gem starring Michael Keaton I honestly never found it scary as u pointed out 🤣
I’m sorry, I’m not sure what movie you’re watching, but this is one of the most heartwarming Christmas movies you could ever watch. Very few movies wrench at your heart like this one does. So good. You need to go back and watch it again with adult visors on, instead of children’s glasses. Because, every time I watch it and a lot of times when I just think about it… I start tearing up. Kelly Preston was the epitome of absolute gorgeousness. Not just physically, but she was just completely incredible inside and out. John Travolta was the luckiest guy on the face of the planet. As she was the most loving, caring person any man could ever want. It’s no wonder he misses her so incredibly every single day. Because there’s not another woman like her on the face of the planet. Because no matter how famous she was or got, she was still the same person inside and out that she always was, since she was a kid. She is the epitome of what every man should strive for in a woman. Beautiful, sweet, loving, caring, and… absolutely dedicated to her husband in a way that very few women ever experience. When a woman looks at you like you are her entire planet, you know you have done something right. The way she looked at John… Phenomenal. She told her mom, when they were out in California when she was a kid at like 13 years old… when her and her mom saw John Travolta out and about… That she was going to marry him one day. She did. God bless her and him.
I didn’t think it was that bad. I enjoyed it when it came out. However, this came around the time when I started getting interested in grindhouse flicks. So it just passed me by.
If I remember correctly, on The Brotherly Love Podcast, Andrew Lawrence said he was trying to play the lead roll of jacks son in the movie, but instead he played the best friend. That would have been something interesting to see.
Please do now and then 1995 movie because the movie released in 1995, is honestly the female version of stand by me, the movie has four women who remember back to the summer they spent together in 1970, using a framing device similar to that of stand by me.
Whats funny to me is that my dad got this movie for me when I was a little kid, we both loved Micheal Keaton, and that was the movie I would have on rewind (for my younger Zoomers, we used to have these things called “VHS Cassettes”). I guess I had the luxury of not knowing it tanked with critics, lol. But then my dad became disabled, eventually diagnosed with cancer and passed away after my freshman summer at college. At the end of the movie, Jack sings “Everytime we say good bye” by Cole Porter… a stoke of genius, I have to say… that movie taught a very little me that he'd have to say good bye one day… when he didn't even know it yet… I love adore this movie and I’m definitely gonna watch it with my child (expecting, March 2025!!) one day ☃️🏒💙 (btw Keaton doesn’t get enough credit for his singing in the movie imo. He really thought it would become a Christmas classic… well it is to me. And, you can actually listen to the Jack Frost Band on Spotify! "Have A Little Faith" is absolutely on my playlist! 😂)

God bless her and him.
Trevor Rabin is the composer for this movie and he has a cameo in the film too.
"Intestinal Desert Hole" is a magical phrase.
Thanks Minty! ;)
I love this movie, no matter what the critics say, great work and congratulations Minty🥇👍🏆👏😊🤗🎁💰🍾🥂🍰👑🎖🏅👏🏆
This is one of my favorite movies ever!
I remember we rented a limo and went to see this for my sister's 10th birthday lol for that reason I'll always treasure this movie
Holy shit balls then1934 Jack Frost took me back to my childhood hardcore
I didn’t think it was that bad. I enjoyed it when it came out. However, this came around the time when I started getting interested in grindhouse flicks. So it just passed me by.
We watch this every year. It's a cute movie.
Can’t wait for the remake with John Travolta.
Wait what?
If I remember correctly, on The Brotherly Love Podcast, Andrew Lawrence said he was trying to play the lead roll of jacks son in the movie, but instead he played the best friend. That would have been something interesting to see.
I like this movie when I saw it.. it was a good movie
Thank you Minty Man Your Channel Rocks
Please do now and then 1995 movie because the movie released in 1995, is honestly the female version of stand by me, the movie has four women who remember back to the summer they spent together in 1970, using a framing device similar to that of stand by me.
Hey minty hope you are having a good new year... the music also has Stevie Nicks landslide thx:)
I'm watching Jack frost on Netflix right now great movie.👍
Whats funny to me is that my dad got this movie for me when I was a little kid, we both loved Micheal Keaton, and that was the movie I would have on rewind (for my younger Zoomers, we used to have these things called “VHS Cassettes”). I guess I had the luxury of not knowing it tanked with critics, lol. But then my dad became disabled, eventually diagnosed with cancer and passed away after my freshman summer at college.
At the end of the movie, Jack sings “Everytime we say good bye” by Cole Porter… a stoke of genius, I have to say… that movie taught a very little me that he'd have to say good bye one day… when he didn't even know it yet… I love adore this movie and I’m definitely gonna watch it with my child (expecting, March 2025!!) one day ☃️🏒💙
(btw Keaton doesn’t get enough credit for his singing in the movie imo. He really thought it would become a Christmas classic… well it is to me. And, you can actually listen to the Jack Frost Band on Spotify! "Have A Little Faith" is absolutely on my playlist! 😂)
Michael keaton is so underrated in his work for desperate measures.
Great Video Minty!! I literally was look for Xmas movies and came across the Killer Snowman Movie! I read the sequel title and died laughing too!! Lol I also like Jack Frost, I love Michael Keaton! Multiplicity 😜💯❤️
