Things I've learned after an hour of watching this: - walls don't exist - sometimes crashing the game is optimal - the fastest path to 100% is the one that appears the most arbitrary

This game is on another level. As a kid you love the goofy sounds and gameplay and as an adult you realize Donkey Kong was trying to tell you how it feels to be older.
Fun fact: the very last banana in the game is the only one with the Rareware logo on it instead of the N64 logo, and it’s collected just at 1:29:50, when the TAS isn’t even two hours in the game
Unless a faster method is found. That’s why I personally prefer LOTADs. Low Optimized Tool Assisted Demonstrations. Basically, the broken shenanigans of a TAS and one-shotting hard tricks without the pretense of “this is the absolute perfect run”

@@TheJayKayA It's a practical thing, it's used mostly for the tower on top of the castle and the vulture in the temple. Nah, the real funny thing is that none of Tiny's moves are needed...
Afaik it's a camera hack to let us viewers see whats happening during Tag-Barrel-Storage (at least the longer ones, because it's basically just a black screen as long as TBS is in effect). This hack is only for demonstration purposes and doesn't affect the gameplay in any way. If I mixed things up, I'd be glad if someone can correct it.
@@Chaosnerd the tag barrel normally puts a black overlay along with all the kong’s models over the game area. Unloading the barrel removes it but still stores the menu. I’m not sure on the black screen but I don’t think it has to do with a mod of any kind EDIT: He never actually left the tag barrel’s radius now that I look closer. I think it is a mod of some kind
I thought I knew how things were working for this TAS, and then DK pulled the auto production lever and somehow immediately started up the 2nd run of the DK Arcade game and I realized just how naïve I was.
In short, we tricked the Lever into thinking we started pulling it (escaping Gorilla Grab by getting damaged). The lever that the kong has progressed far enough into an animation (to the same point as the end of the Gorilla Grab animation), at which point it will activate the start of the pull into Arcade. We use Tiny's idle animation to trigger this as it is sufficiently long enough. After pulling the lever in power shed, the game starts to play the production room on cutscene, but gets interrupted by the arcade lever finishing the process of pulling you into Arcade. This skips having to watch the production room on cutscene and allows for some clever routing
For the first 3 minutes during the tutorial, I thought that there might not be any glitches involved. Then I remembered that this was a Rareware N64 game when DK did a back-handspring into the next time zone.

Oh hey!! Hold on there!! what exactly is going on at 28:18??!????!?!!!! I just can't believe what I see, that you made it seem like its the easiest part in the entire game, in what in fact is the most difficult and intimidating part of the entire game!! In what I spent a lot of my precious time if my child for absolutely nothing!!!! Come in man !! What the hell!!! I spent literally days upon RAGE to get the rhythm of the mechanics and even though I got something out or the mechanics I just couldn't get it done so left it!!!! But you must tell me how you did it!!!
What is going on is that the movement (Walking, Running, Jumping, Swimming etc.) the game considers us in is "Klaptrap Kong". Normally there is no way to exit Klaptrap Kong movement at all until you beat Beaver Bother. That being said, with this glitch, we use a beaver to push us into a wall to a sufficient amount. Since the surrounding walls are slippery, it forces us into the sliding moving state. After which, we are returned to the Idle movement state and gain back all our traditional abilities including shockwave. That being said, this glitch is by no means easy, and beating Beaver Bother normally is miles easier.
2:40:00 Lanky Kong's not so serious sideways jumps! 2:44:10 people who wanna see DK moonwalk and then fly around! 3:02:05 THE MOONJUMP 3:20:50 Diddy does not monopolize the jetpack. Dixie and relatives have ready access as well. 3:21:24 an example of what happens a few times this run, confusing the game a little too much. 3:32:22 Lanky has style and grace, the song is a lie 3:33:55 Another prime example of Diddy allowing in-laws to use his stuff 3:34:44 CHUNKY WTF 3:35:50 anxiety 3:52:35 overwhelming snide?

I debated on it, but if I recall correctly, I finished encoding this with only a couple days until the live reveal. Should 101% get destroyed even further resulting in it being worth to make a 3rd edition TAS, then I'll make a note to show a counter

@@Portentous__ It would show the progress towards collecting each collectable type that updates the percentage counter. So far 101% hasn't changed much since this video. I still hold the condition that I would only consider making an update to this if there were significant changes.
Take out some redundant parts, finish some areas, smooth out the collision weirdness, yeah that’d be nice but it’ll never happen, the licences are all messed up like Goldeneye N64

Given the amount of time and work he put into the Any% Explanation, it would take potentially up to 6 months for such a video when there are tonnes of other games which could do with a great Bismuth-style explanation video.

@@edvideojuegosycultura3712 I played it as a kid, and I disagree. The game isn't terrible, but there is a clear gap between what Rare wanted with it and what the N64 could handle. Honestly, if I had the time and a legal copy, I'd love to play it again.

@@edvideojuegosycultura3712 I played it as a kid, and I disagree. The game isn't terrible, but there is a clear gap between what Rare wanted with it and what the N64 could handle.
Honestly, if I had the time and a legal copy, I'd love to play it again.
