    I grew up in the town of Hull. Me and my friends would hang out up there and explore the fort and graveyard adjacent to it. There are some headstones there from the 1600s. I love to growing up in that town back in the 70s.
    Since then it has been well taken care of and is used by the town for different activities and celebrations.

    Thanks for the video, it brings back a lot of memories. My grandparents owned the last house near the fort on Farina Road from 1950 to 1975. All my summers were spent there as a youth, I'm now 73! Their house overlooked the harbor and Lighthouse. The house has since been transformed into two stories with a tower. The fort sure has changed, and looks in pretty rough shape from what I remember it as. It was a great place to play back then, hardly any graffiti or broken glass.
    Great job!

    Went there today and the absolute level of disrespect not only by the spray paint but neglect from one of the richest towns in the south shore is insane

    Amazing seeing how it’s changed!!! I remember all the graffiti inside and out, the wells were still open and had grates and one had to be careful not to fall in. My favorite spot was hanging up on the roof watching the boats go by. The worst time is winter, those stairs are just ice and if your not wearing cleats your sliding down. There is a huge mound on the right of the stairs and that’s a burial mound. Sad not to see all the metal bars that once were there. Those false entrances 7:40 were guard posts, once in awhile you may capture a soldier standing there... I’m serious, but a few were prisons and once had the gates which are long gone now, but soldier would stand watching at the gate. I miss that place so much and the lighthouse too. 13:01 was the jail house and I see the bars have been taken out, but I remember just sitting in there reading or lay down on a hot summers day because that room was actually pretty cooling, and that was back in the Paragon Park days.
    14:30 fun fact, there’s a reason why one needs a permit to dig in their yard!!! Plans looked like a garden design, finding a bunch of plans on the locations not far from there that was an old bunker was crazy, not too mention so many documents left, but that bunker has since been leveled due to radiation and other hazards back in the late 80’s, but there are still remnants of the structures still around.

    The current Fort was built in the early 1900s and was much larger than it is now. Parts of it were buried in the late 1940s and many post buildings still remain.

    Go to George's island. Thats mysteious as well as historic. Lots of Halloween stories....soooo many from these places. Lots of cliffs...pedocks island wàs landscape for leanardo decaprios movie...they rebuilt the pier for it. It was wood. When Hollywood showed up, they rebuilt? Will never be the same. It was colemans bait shop. Best breakfast ever. High school was across the way. The pier was so much fun. Remember ?

    It actually isn't abandoned per say, people live in the gaurd house. My grandfather was a firefighter and when WWII began he had to make sure noone went in or out. And it was built by the Patroit Forces, French Marines, and the U.S. Army. I'm from Hull and grew up there I'm the 7th out of 8 generations from there. Also it's pronounced like all (Allerton). We were the line of defense for Boston Harbor. The state owns it now, they don't seem to care about it. Be careful there are holes in the floor in some of the darker rooms. There are more tunnels behind the Jacob school, people's houses were built on top of them!

    • @julianmalcolm
      @julianmalcolm Рік тому

      The original fort was built by the Patriots and the French but the current fort was built by the United States Army Corps of Engineers. On Point Allerton you may already know was a collection of Fire Control Stations that served as observation for the Harbor Defenses of Boston. Today only on tower remains of the three stations which were destroyed in 1978. The tunnels behind the Jacob School were part of Battery Ripley which held two 12 inch barbette guns, the largest at Fort Revere. It was buried in the late 40s or early 50s for construction of houses (like you said). Not only is the guardhouse stilled lived in but many old post buildings from the early 1900s are lived in also. A large bunker that not many seem to know about is a Mining Casement that is literally right next to Battery Pope-Sanders

    5:25 The walls in which the guns were behind are called Parapets.

      Spinnaker island (Hog Island) had the largest, most powerful guns in Boston during ww1 and ww2 in Battery Long which originally was an open aired 16 inch LR Barbette Battery which could shoot projectiles 30 miles. In 1942-44 it was put in a concrete casement which lowered the range to 26 miles but still impressive. It did have NIKE Missiles and Anti-Aircraft guns but so did Fort Revere(Just AA Guns).

    Basically built by the British!

  • @cannabiscaitlinlivingwithGBS

    The concrete fell away and exposed the bricks, that's what's under the whole fort. That is Spinnaker Island, it isn't for rich people. Yes Nike missiles were held there, it was later called Hog Island than spinaker. Most of the people actually from here aren't that well off, it's a blue collar town. You should probably educate yourself before speaking on something you know nothing about. They were used as cells for P.O.W.s. Hull is actually an Island, we are connected by man made bridges and streets. Do your homework next time.

    • @julianmalcolm
      @julianmalcolm Рік тому +3

      The brickwork inside is the original interior walls and is expressed on the Report of Completed Works by the USACE. And please don't bully people like this. It is not just him but many, many people make mistakes like that and read from Wikipedia. It does not mean you need to bash on this one guy because he does not know everything.

    • @cannabiscaitlinlivingwithGBS
      @cannabiscaitlinlivingwithGBS Рік тому

      @Julian Malcolm Didn't bully or bash. Just educating, my family has been in Hull since the late 1700's. My grandfather manned the Fort on December 7th, 1945 he was a firefighter here. Sometimes Wikipedia gets it wrong also. Have a nice day.
