- First shedversion of Greg Phillinganes fantastic bass synth on Dont stop
Still having problems getting the fills right , hope for that in next version, but well get there at some point. This is only first part of the song up to the break.
im playing a Moog Little Phatty, tried to come as close to the sound as possible, but that can probably improve too..

The lost art of synth bass playing...
Was this song originally synth bass? I can't tell very well from listening to the original.
Here the demo with a more "dirtier" setting Christopher ua-cam.com/video/R2IzJihXPEM/v-deo.html
The album Off the Wall was recorded from December 1978 to June 1979 and was the first time that Gregg Phillinganes played synth bass on a Michael Jackson album.
ooh was waiting for the bridge breakdown... Still amazing 10 years later
Greg Phillinganes would be proud
Awesome man! Such a danceable song. Takes me back.
So simple but effective.
That's what's I'm talking about - No computer needed
Good job man. I should have play moog bass like you in my version 😛
Marlowe dude.. Watched your videos for years now and honestly, it's just not the same when we can't see your expression :) Let's see a face cam for these!! PLEASE!
Just had a thought.. I know the Bee Gees really popularized Synth bass or so it's thought, but Chicago (the band) used them quite a lot too, a little bit later. Songs like "Hard to Say I'm Sorry" "You're The Inspiration", probably most of their well known ballads.
Marlowe, you need a better keyboard stand! LOL.
One of the best bass lines every recorded.
I was kind of disappointed that this wasn't done on electric bass. This and "Black Velvet" too. :(
LJ is listed as playing on this. I suppose he's doubling the basic rhythm, not the fills.
Your videos are great as always.
He did do some of the fills live.
I just the same bass amp with a A/B, actually keybass is less in need of treble so it works fine.
Hey Marlowe! You sound great! I was wanting to know what patch you are using to get close to that bass sound in the song?
That was fun.
Can you please give what patch/settings/ you used? This bass is so good, man you are amazing!
Good job!
so good man, sounds funkier
its not funkier he kinda close but if you listen to the original there are so many little ghost notes and trills it cant be out done except stevie wonder or herbie hancock or sombody like that
Greg Phillinganes
Very good!!!
So good!
Marlowe.... for Keytar players like me (I own a Roland Ax Synth), could you create videos with only the right hand playing. Special request for accompaniment too. tnx Ed
I got one to
That's kick ass !
that is Funky!!! :)))
What settings did you use here?
how you did that MJ synth tone?i have little phatty stage 1 but i'm new about that can you tell me?
+Okan ALTAŞ it isnt an mj synth tone.. its just a MOOG when u play that key it sounds that way :D lol
nice one
No wonder you can't get closer... The original is a bass guitar. Possible with a mixture of synth on top, but the meat of the bassline is mostly bass guitar really..
Stingray with treble all the way down+ synth layer is my guess :)

Duly noted:-)
wow
can i get this sound from a vst ?
Of course. Good MOOG vsts are NI Monark and TheLegend.
Funky!!
1 osc is enough!
The Roland VB-99 is a great alternative for synth bass if like me your keyboard skills are poo. As there is no perceptible latency using the on board synths.
Dude you are supposed to use one hand only
Two notes..Wow. Some people will video anything.
