Its the worst nhl game ive played. Their lack of effort has met the lack of budget and the result is unplayable. Favorite franchise, but its done. They are milking a dead cow they neglected and acting like the milk is as fresh as its ever been

No. It has nothing to do with last gen. What are they gonna do differently? Does a PS5 exclusive game look that much different from a PS4 game? No. Sony doesn't innovative in their hardware anymore because everyone shut the PS3 down and wouldn't buy it so, Sony uses off the shelf components in their hardware now. Developing only for PS5 isn't gonna make any difference because the hardware is barely more powerful than the PS4 is. Xbox? Dude, Xbox is a PC, that's all it is is a PC in a smaller box running as little as they can get of a Windows OS. Sony wasn't that way and doesn't really think that way and the result from Nintendo and PlayStation is usually innovative hardware where Xbox just wants to keep up so, it really doesn't matter.
But hey, if you know the secret to them making an actual Next-gen game and how that's gonna be different than it is now, I'm all ears. You want to think new hardware changes the A.I., you're sorely mistaken and don't understand hardware. A.I. in EA NHL games has been the same since the Xbox 360 and PS3. It's not the hardwares limitations, it's the programmers doing the job. EA wants incremental upgrades every year rather than doing what Ubisoft does with the Assassins Creed franchise have several teams and then releasing a game every two years. EA doesn't do that so it's incremental upgrades every 9 months instead of two years. That's why sports games suck so much

Being honest with all my thoughts here.
Gameplay, AI and awareness is still as bad as last year. The new goalie mechanics can sometimes look cool, but way too many times they will do an outrageous animation when the play has absolutely no need for it.
Hitting system is just...meh. the changes to the controls, hitting, making deking easy, its just...meh. The only thing i enjoyed the most was thd vision passing, i just WISH you can do icon switching on defense. Too many times I'm trying to switch to a specific player and the game will give me the wrong player, he gets out of position, and I am boned on defense.
Presentation in a nutshell: NHL 2k10 is better. Which is something that can still be said about a lot of things in areas of this game where this shouldn't be a thing.
Franchise feels the same. Creation suite, exact same for years. Be a pro, same to a tee for YEARS.
Presentation: absolutely lacking in every department. Audio can have issues, especially the crowd. Sandstorm will be played 50 times a game. Also, the goal celebrations are just...there shouldn't be a spotlight on an away team player after a goal. FC24 goal celebrations make this games goals look So Outdated.
There is so much more i can detail, but if youre someone who plays offline more, NHL 23 is free on EA Play.
If not, wait for a massive sale or wait till Feb/March when the game is free to play. This review felt very catered to please EA enough to wanna reach out, but you do you man. I've played this franchise for over 20 years. I know this game bettwr than any other, and paying full price for this game, is beyond laughable.
Just awful, honestly. Changing color menus but everything looks the same. I mostly play EASHL and this year has the same matchmaking bugs as last year. All they had to do was remove or nerf truculence, fix some bugs, quality of life changes and this was an easy layup. Paying 70 dollars for this is basically robbery.
Actually Be a Pro is much better than like the last 2 years, They need to bring back the AHL and add IHF and World Cup shit

The skating is so different. I cannot move backwards the way I used to. I can not protect the puck by using X (PS4) anymore. Also the players feel slower and it is way harder to hit
The hitting was the one thing that took me the longest to adjust to. It feels like they put more puck protection tied to the stick handling this year. Try abusing the hip check. Once you get the timing/angle down you’ll wreck people. Thank you for checking out the video!
I love how this review focused on gameplay and not a bunch of extra modes I couldn’t care less about. I’d just as soon EA offered its sports games with a “base game” version (with all teams and venues; quick game and season options), and then other downloadable modes that interested people would then pay for. I find myself spending 70 bucks full of content that, while certainly great for many others, that I’m just not interested in.
Same here. I play these games the same way I did when I was a kid. I'm interested in the season modes and the player career modes in these games. The rest I usually never touch.

As someone who stopped playing this series 10 years ago because it was the same recycled crap, I can see that I'm not missing anything new.
I don’t care what anyone says i been playing NHL since the 90s and i have never felt a more real feel to a NHL game since the jump in 2014

I see the issues that people have and I understand certain aspects have changed a lot and there’s obviously glitches but i really like the direction they have taken it. Actually enjoying NHL again
No way dude. I’ve been playing since the original NHL release and hands down NHL 09, 10 and 11 were the pinnacle of this franchise. Everything since has been absolute trash.
Relaunch NHL 10 with EASHL and watch the community flock to it.
I totally agree that the new mechanics make the game feel more authentic to how it feels on the ice when you're stuck in your zone and can't get out. Can players cheese the mechanic? Sure! But NHL has always had gameplay exploits. I do think they need to overhaul the Be a Pro mode but the gameplay this year feels satisfying! Thanks for checking out the video and leaving a comment!

Did they bring back the full broadcast? That will determine whether I get the game or not. NHL23 was absolutely criminal for removing that.
Players movement looks more realistic than ever. I'm impressed.

NHL 24 during the early release phase of Tuesday - Thursday played really well. I went to bed on Thursday night feeling pretty good about the game. The Friday, 10/6 gameplay update ruined it. NHL 24 plays like NHL 23 all over again. The user controlled players have been slowed down while the CPU players have been sped up. It feels like skating & shooting through molasses. The CPU goalie speed & animations have been sped up again. Your goalie can't stop anything & gives up too many rebounds. The CPU players always separate you from the puck & can pick it up so easily as your checked animation is always overexaggerated. It was good for 3 days, but is unplayable now. The developers will abandon it like last year after so many complaints.
I was terrible even before, maybe you didnt play enough.
lol I haven't played in a few years but I remember that happening after every release. The online AI was great but scoring was harder so they nerf the game at the first patch. Same old Same old.

The goalies are horrible, they didn’t change a damn thing. Computer AI is brutal and so are the goalies. EASHL is unplayable.

This franchise has been absolutely hot sticky garbage since NHL 12. I don’t know how they went from such an amazing 10/10 gaming experience from NHL 09 through 11 and then went to absolute 💩.
If EA relaunched NHL 09, 10 or 11 with EASHL I’d buy it for $1000. That’s how good those games were.

The goalies definitely got some strong legs on em this season with how they move. While it might not look very realistic, im enjoying the tougher goaltending. Makes those goals that much sweeter

It’s felt like a different experience to me, especially with the goalies. Cross-ice easy goals feel less frequent this year. Scoring in 24 gets me hyped more than prior years. Thanks for checking out the video!

I only played NHL 22 in the last decade and compared to that NHL 24 is Horrible, what a waste of 20 bucks, a shame NHL 22 online is quite dead.
The frostbite engine is ancient the skating looks NOTHING like in real life and they added a $10 battlepass BOYCOTT
I just ignore the battlepass it's baffling they added one. Why not let us earn cool cosmetics by doing challenges and hitting certain milestones?

Nhl24 is not legit, don’t listen to this guy lol. The online changes are horrible, not to mention the bugs from 23 weren’t fixed. Chel takes 15-45 minutes to get into a game because it’s no longer a “drop in”. They match you with teammates first, THEN find an opponent. 2 processes that RESET after 5 minutes. They took the fun out of hitting(some chodes will say made it more challenging), but it’s more so the feel of the hits are completely BORING. Goalie changes are horrible, instead of fixing the problems, it feels the game now just plays goalie for you. There’s more but you can experience it yourself for $60.
Offline: it’s a copy and paste, same exact dialog and route for be a pro and franchise mode. Dull and boring.
At least there’s new shit but tbh the new controls are so bad that it drives me crazy. I hate that it no longer takes any skill or effort to pull off dekes. Dekes that take a lot of time and practice to learn are now done by tapping a button. No skill gap at all it’s sad. The Michigan is gonna be a problem this year. All people do now is skate behind the net, press triangle, and it’s an automatic goal every single time. Bad bad bad EA
This is a common saying: "It's far from perfect." So, when EA is listening to all of you (they're sending you review code), why are y'all not hounding them for an overhauled revamped game with the changes the series needs to MAKE IT PERFECT. You have more say and more influence over what developers are going to do than we do who complain about the game every year, and most still buy it, they clearly aren't listening to us and making incremental upgrades every year..... So the question still stands, WHY ARE Y'ALL NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT TO PROMOTE CHANGE!?! It's a far from perfect game, yet you're telling gamers "THIS IS THE YEAR TO INVEST." So your recommendation is to invest in mediocrity? Or do you just want views? It's your credibility on the line, man. You're the one throwing your reputation out there and if people buy the game on your recommendation, that's your liability, your livlihood
It definitely feels different which is where the hate is coming from, but if it felt the same people would be complaining about that haha. Me personally love the changes and the way it feels. Its taking time getting used to things like the hitting but i feel like its more difficult/realistic.

Such an underrated thing is the commentary this year. Finally the commentary actually fits the damn plays. Idk if I'm just seeing extra contrast because I've been playing Madden a lot but man does the presentation feel leagues better. I'm not a fan of the new celebrations but man the rest of the presentation is so good now.

I've been playing since NHL 08 and never once has the commentary been anything other than like 3 lines on repeat. For once her and James actually spent some time in the booth getting quality play by play lines going. Anyone who says it isn't noticeably better is just on their anti-EA meatriding for attention.

WHAT HAVE THEY DONE??? I truly shouldn’t care…I’m 60 years old…but after 14 years of playing I am truly disheartened by what they have done to the Versus game…it’s SO slow and squishy and 90% of the goals are garbage/fluke score-on-yourself-type goals. The on ice gameplay is the worst I have ever experienced. I wouldn’t even know where to start with a review but unfortunately I am going to need to wait for a few weeks and hope they have fixed it before continuing…I’m 4-0 but it’s truly awful

It does seem they’re counting those goals more this year. I remember in prior years you’d see the Dman possess it in the net but not count as a goal

I disagree...
1. Its like a combo of a hardcore casual game. Ive been saying this for 5 years already, they need to go to sim engine and have arcade mode for casual players. Still arcady but somehome managed to put some realisim into it.
2. Bad goals. Alot of own goals weird bounce goals... this never was in the game like this... these goals are a huge killer.
3. People are ragging the puck more. The bar should juat be filled up on hits and shots. Not possesion or passes.
4. The lacrose goal is terrible and shame on EA for using this as a seelling point.
5. Franchise mode got litteraly not update. As well as be a pro.
All in all the gameplay is okay and ya the AI seems good. Gameplay overall better but alot of bugs i see and really for a $60 annually we should always be getting g nrw content

Thank you for shouting out the positive changes in this review. Haven’t gotten a chance to play yet but geez, so many haters. The NHL video game community is full of pessimists. All I see is hating on how gAmE ModEs hAvenT cHaNged. But the GAMEPLAY has changed tremendously! That’s the main change we’ve asked for, for years! We got world of chel a few years ago, now it’s been time for new gameplay. Yeah I would like to see some additions to offline modes, but first and foremost is gameplay and the new dev team changed it for the better. Much more realistic with the pressure system and a little bit of arcade with the crazy hits and broken glass. Also, the community has to remember, this is a sports video game, there’s not going to be dramatic changes every year. But damn it, there finally is this year. Don’t know if this levels out to best game since 14 but it has to at least come close.
This game is very frustrating, passing is still as bad as it ever was, i can barely hit any1 anymore but the comp can smash me and also push me off the puck easily even though my players cant seem to do it often at all. I cant toe drag like use to and the wrist shot is harder to do, he sometimes just loses the puck while attempting it.
The game is so bad, doesn’t even feel like NHL anymore, they’re too busy trynna focus on making the game “realistic” the hitting sucks, goalies are too good and AI defenders are broken, can’t say I’ll be playing the game anymore

It's the exact same game as the last 3 years just changes to gameplay but minor changes in gameplay doesn't make it a new game the cut scenes are the same and the modes are the same no changes whatsoever they cut and past the same game add a little change to graphics and gameplay and you think it's a new game worth 70 dollars good thing the PS5 gives you 10 hours to play for free so I don't have to buy this garbage.
This makes me want to buy the game less. Not everyone likes realism and super close battles. I buy sports games to break records and dominate. That is what I like. Last years game even with the sliders all the way up and AI all the way down I had problems scoring ANY goals. Im a casual. And I couldn't even rig it to get a win. It was unreal! Now they made the goalies better when they were shutting me out last year??? No thanks. Not for me
They definitely stand on their head this year but don’t feel unbearable. This year feels like there’s a big emphasis on the pressure system and patience is key. But I feel you that a sports game can feel awful if they don’t scale the AI and difficulty properly. I appreciate you checking out the review!

Thought the game is horrible
I’m glad to see a positive review. I’ve been playing 100’s of hours of every game since NHL 12. I think people don’t realize the addicting gameplay and customization (except goalie helmets) is the best out of the four big sports titles. Customizing your 33rd Expansion team is perfection, and no other sports franchise comes close to it. It’s not perfect, but I still get the addicting gameplay I’ve craved since 12’. This is the most different the game has felt in over a half decade. Enjoy what we have and don’t complain about what’s not. They put in roster sharing in so you can’t complain too much about buying it. 😊

Why do you idiots assume anyone who likes this game is payed by ea get a life
in my opinion, this game is WORSE than 23, specially on the defense side of the play, being out score 7 to 3 in pro dificulty because you can't land a single hit due to your player getting stuck on the ice or missing the opposing player that is right in front of him, it's not like the oposing player reversed the hit or duck, he just goes ahead like nothing has happened to them really is pissing me off, I don't mind the goalies being beter on the opponent side, I actually like this change, but this is the only change that I've liked, not being able to defend is a very good no no
oh, one more thing: 85 overall teams are just too OP, it's like you are facing a 95 overall team on 23, you just can't play, and this is happening on pro difficulty, it just too frustrating to a game that imported the frustrations of the previous year and added more things to hinder your gameplay

I refuse to buy this garbage, and from reading peoples comments who bought and played the NHL 24 i can see i am not missing anything. I will just wait for the game to come out on Game Pass.
