I believe this may be where my grandfather is from in Poland. He was a child when his mother died, either in birth or shortly after his birth. He had 9 other siblings. His father remarried. Had another 5-6 children. He was sent to live with friends in Germany by age 8. The step mother did not like him. But age 10-12 he was living on the streets essentially homeless taking care of himself. He ended up a prisoner in 5 different concentration camps. He had a wife and two sons killed by the Germans in a camp. Then met my grandmother, had two children and was put in Aushwitz. They were going to be released in two weeks, which meant they were to be killed in two weeks when America liberated Aushwitz. They ended up in America after that.
We do not know much about his family. Not even our real last name. I went to Aushwitz with my children a few years ago. I would love yo take DNA test with company that has access to people in Poland to see if we can find our family’s roots there.
Because of all the trauma he went thru, my grandfather never spoke of his past. Only bits and pieces escaped when he was drunk. He drank to escape the pain of all he went thru in life.
I hope one day to find more info about our family and maybe someone who knows what happened to him as a child and the rest of our family’s history until now.
I actually agree that Lódz can be ugly, but they are doing an amazing job to restore the several old and careless buildings to restore it and, with addiction to it, to some of the large number of buildings there that are a bit more recent that are just ugly because of the minimalism. And even those that are more recent, they are doing some work on, in order to make it look more classic, which is the secret of some polish cities that make them beautiful. Which is the perfect balance of old and colorful buildings. Can't wait to see Lódz in the future!

Having Tom OUT of the US for these videos makes for a great contrast that I'm not used to. Comparing everything from the architecture to city planning between Europe (especially eastern Europe) and the US is interesting.
Really? I was wondering in this one will be interesting for you guys since its kind of poor City and now much was changed since 80s. When I was editing this one yesterday I had more like travel to Cuba vibes…
@@TAPPChannel I am always interested in collecting "data" on things that are "different" in any way to what I have already experienced. As I mentioned, this city was "different" in a variety of ways. And, as we all know, drones give us a bigger perspective of these difference than can be given on the ground.

Piękne miasto, moim zdaniem o wiele przyjemniejsze niż taki Kraków. Myślę po studiach sie tam wyprowadzić ciekawe jak się rozwinie przez te lata. Liczę na renowacje tych ruin i budowa nieco większych budynków w centrum, lepsze połączenia transportu po mieście.
