My dad is from Madeira and I head out there every year for cycling and it really is an untouched gem for riding. I really don’t know how more people haven’t discovered it. It’s absolutely brutal since they’re are literally no flat roads, but the rewards in terms of scenery completely make up for it. It still baffles me how within 5 minutes you can be two completely different climates.
I lived in Machico for 6 months and the spots you rode where my daily tracks! It's sad you can't really find much more besides those to ride on a gravel bike, but they're still insane to ride on!
I vacay in Funchal often, but leave the bike home. The microclimate changes are okay, but it's the narrow roads and rally car-type speeds locals drive at which scare me. Add in tourists (US) not familiar with rental car stick shifts, and every corner is a heart rate spiking adventure.
Beautiful place! Unfortunately they’re gonna start charging to use the Levada paths this year, although I reckon you could outride them from that KOM pace 🤪
Get good travel insurance before you go there though, you’re a long way from home and flights with medical assistance are not cheap. Tenerife probably a similar but better place to risk a big crash TBH, better hospitals.
Missed your content. Welcome back
Great to have you back Cam!!
Great vid Cam, love the original content and beautiful scenery, thanks for showing
2025, big year for Jeffers. 🆙⬆️

Madeira is often called the Hawaii of Europe. I've been there many times, it's such a beautiful island but it's not cheap to get there.

Great content! But the Insta360 camera quality looks awful while riding. Dont understand the hype about them..
