    Hi Phoebe and Matt, we are an Aussie and a Yank going to Capetown for a week then want to do a safari type thing like you did. I'm sure that place cost you an arm and a leg, but anyway, more details... which airport did you fly to from Capetown? How many different drives did you go on in 2 days? What do you do in between time? We're planning to be there 1st week of Feb. Any one else want to chime in on recommendations of lodges/game drives feel free.

    • @janineriley
      @janineriley 5 років тому

      Hi Kerie, Lion Sands is one of the more upmarket lodges and you will pay a premium price catered for foreign tourists (about USD1750 per couple per night including breakfast and lunch) It is spectacular but there are way more affordable places, most local South Africans cannot afford these prices but still stay at lovely lodges in or near Kruger Park. Within Kruger Park you can stay in a bungalow for USD120 or more upmarket lodges. There are also local tour companies that will take you on safaris tailored for you. (check out Honey Badger Safari Tours) Phoebe and Max would have departed from Cape Town International Airport and you can fly direct to Skukuza Airport in Kruger Park. Hope that helps.

    Spitting Cobras must not live there. In Kenya the van we took protected us. We stopped by a spitting cobra and the driver rolled up his window as the cobra took notice of us and reared up.
    You got to see a leopard!!! Twice! I never saw a leopard. Some meat was hung in a tree across the river from the lodge. The meat moved, but we never saw the animal moving it.

      They are only a big deal if they are on land and you are on land, or you're both in water. But if they're in water and you're on land they don't bother you much. As long as you keep an experienced eye on them you can easily tell when they are about to get out the water.

      The animals are pretty used to the vehicles. From what conservationists have explained to me before, many of the animals see you and the vehicle as one large entity (as long as you don't jump up and down or go to crazy on it) so they won't mess with something that large unless they are provoked or starving.

I've stayed at a couple of the Sabi Sands lodges (Earth Lodge and Little Bush Lodge) and they are amazing! And the guides and trackers are top quality. If you want to take your safari experience to the next level, try a walking and boating lodge in the Okavango Delta. (Best sunsets in the world there.) Highly recommend Camp Okavango run by Desert & Delta Safaris - no, I'm not a rep. Really enjoyed this clip. That male leopard on the night drive was huge!

    You have to see a place like Kruger to appreciate what we're doing to this planet. Personally I felt I got an inkling of what it must have been like before us when I was there. Also of course what our place is in the natural pecking order in physical matters. Without our weapons and fences. It's humbling. These animals are all worth our respect for their ability to survive in the wild with nothing but their bodies. And yes they are beautiful.

    • @travelforphoebe
      @travelforphoebe  5 років тому

      YES! Wow, your comment really captured something I haven't been able to put into words myself. It truly is humbling, just as you've described. The moment we saw those lions together, it just... I don't know... it put things into perspective. It really was a life-changing experience for me. Thanks so much for watching and commenting too - your comment really resonated! P x

    A luxury class Safari! Thanks , was in Kruger 'way back in 79/80 so great to see animals still there. For me the Rhinos were the most impressive, the way they were like a tank, they could go anywhere they wanted without even thinking about it . Stunning, cheers Warren

      @travelforphoebe  2 роки тому +1

      Hi! Thanks so much for watching 😍🙌🏻 we do use a mic but it’s tough for us to balance the music perfectly for every device type. We check it on our tv, phones and computer but inevitably it’s gonna be off for someone, somewhere in the world. I know when I stream something sometimes the dialogue is so soft and then the music blasts me out the room 😂 and that’s big budget! Let alone our little production here on UA-cam- we do try our best, I promise you that. Thank you so much for watching and so glad you enjoy our videos - hope you have a beautiful day over there!!
