I agree completely. He looks like the kind of person who would be more into the rock/hardcore scene, and that's also going by how he sings his songs(or how he tries).
I don't think he abandoned his dream of being a rock legend. Winning the x factor got him a record deal, so he wa able to put out songs and get a fanbase, even if the songs were more pop than rock. This allows him to eventually maybe drop the record deal and focus on doing more rock, and then he actually has a chance of making a living off it because of his large fan base already. If he had tried going straight into the rock thing, he may not have had as much success or popularity.
