Imagine just chilling in your impoverished life and suddenly the sister you forgot you had from 30 years prior shows up suddenly to take you away from your misery, oh and she's the Empress of Russia! THAT is a rags to riches story that needs its own movie!

I never knew that Catharine searched for her siblings.
I can only imagine how they must have felt when they heard that their long lost sister is now the emperes of all Russia and when they realised she's giving them the chance to live in the lap of luxury.

Martha was born in the territory of what is now Latvia, my homeland. So I was very pleased to see that you were covering her incredible life story. Thank you!
As other people have mentioned in the comments, her story certainly deserves more exposure - I wonder why no big budget period drama has been made out of her life story yet.

I totally agree on this fact as she was a powerhouse plus that a series of her life would be amazing. After all Princess Diana has had one of her life. I've still not seen that though.

There are 2 Russian series on Catherine the Great that feature her in early episodes. I found them on Tubi. One is one season long and the other 3 seasons long. Great costumes, homes, and actors. I am enjoying it immensely.

I enjoyed this story about Catherine the First of Russia, she was a very interesting and yet fascinating woman. She certainly accomplished alot in her life to start out as a young orphaned girl and end up ruling Russia, that's extraordinary. Great investigating, presentation and photos, too.

I’m absolutely obsessed with Russian history - especially the Russian empire period. That said, considering she wasn’t Russian or even noble, it’s surprising she was able to keep power after Peter the Great died. There must have been much back room dealing going on since Russia had never had a Empress regnant. She had already been crowned once thru the Russian Orthodox Church bc she was Peter’s wife but no other Tsarina tried to hold onto power after their husband died. Supposedly Paul I’s widow was gonna press her claim after he was assassinated but was talked out of it by Alexander.

Suggestion: your mention of the bubonic plague, gave me the idea.
In Vienna 16/17th century, I’m not sure which, during on of the many outbreaks of plague,
there lived a beggar, bagpipe-player and drunkard named Augustin.
One day, at closing time, he was so drunk, that they threw him out on the street. - a thing one did with all the plague victims - and during the night the undertakers cart came by, loaded up Augustin and dumped him with all the other bodies in an open grave.
This Pit was so deep, that when he woke in the morning hours, he could not escape.
So he composed a tune, which he kept on singing, till the undertakers found him and got him out.
From this derives the folk song: “Oh du Lieber Augustin, alle ist hin.” Oh dear Augustin, everything is lost.
I wonder if the story would be interesting enough. Its just the bear bones here.
Greetings and thank you for your work. 
