Summer 2021 - Tuesday July 13th: I'll be streaming the entirety of Ar tonelico: Melody of Elemia & Ar tonelico II: Melody of Metafaliss on Twitch - so come on over and vote which waifu I go for and a bunch of other stuff! The stream will be on Tuesdays and one or two more other days during the week! - www.twitch.tv/myraslokov
Imagine if our appliances worked like Ar Tonelico technology... woops, printed the wrong document, want to stop the printer? Gotta find a girl to sing to it for five minutes! Thank fuck we have buttons.
It's a programming language that precedes Hymmnos for over 5000 years and that was originated in an entirely different planet for the purposes of easy casting for Song Magic. So it's not unexpected for it to be like that.
Ar Nosurge is a prequel, so nothing strange that their language is simpler. Ancient Latin is way simpler than French. And unlike in our world, where language was used as a communications tool before being adapted to programming, in Ar Ciel and Ra Ciela, it served as a programming tool before being used for communicating. Thus, more primitive languages should tend more to their original use. The same applies to Carmena Foreluna (the dialect from AT3, that preccedes hymmnos and is a direct successor to the language used by the world itself before beings even existed). In the case of AT2, the Old Testament of Pastalie isn't that old, but is an utilitarist conlang with the purpose of managing Infel Phira, so it also makes sense that it's compressed
This is very very VERY ancient Hymmnos. SPOILERS In Ar Nosurge you are on a colony ship floating above the destroyed planet from Ciel Nosurge, about 5000 years after. Later in the game you visit Ar Ciel and find out that the Teru tribe came from the same place your characters did. The language on Ar Ciel is closely related to the language of the Genom from the original home planet of Ra Ciela, which is why it sounds the same but has many different words and dialects.
It's a Cieln song, which is basically the Hymmnos Extracts for Surge Concerto. The conlang used is REON-4213, which is somewhat like a programming language. artonelico.wikia.com/wiki/Cieln artonelico.wikia.com/wiki/REON-4213_Language
Except it's not Hymmnos, at all. The REON-4213 and Emotional Song Pact languages didn't survive the 5000 years that went by ever since that expedition was stranded in Ar Ciel (in the case of REON-4213 no G2-Trons or Cielnotrons survived or remained functional, and in the case of Emotional Song Pact, no Genoms remained to Synchronize with, and the only surviving piece of Emotional Song Pact that only a few of them knew were the lyrics to the Grand Memorial song that was sung in the city of Almetica), and instead, they ended up developing a different language based off the Ar Ciela language used by the planet they just had arrived at. Additionally, Hymmnos was developed by the human Moon Chanters on their own while the Teru kept themselves isolated and away from the humans for almost all of Ar Ciel's history, meaning they couldn't have influenced anything on the development of the language.
so it's just the oldest version of Hymmnos. It's Hymmnos but a different Hymmnos which is used in Ar Tonelico because they are 2 completely different kind of languages.
The game in itself was very so-and-so... I think it was a bit flawed in its structure, but this time around the audio experience was awesome! Unlike the other AT games,with this there's only one song i find really meh :D... and CIEL_N_PROTECTA is definitely in my top 5 :D
I tried to like this game so much, but I spent like 2 hours and was so beyond bored and found myself skipping cutscenes because I didn't have any reason to care about the story or the characters :/
Was it because of the lack of Ciel Nosurge? I did find once you got onto Ion's side of the story it was much more fun, I really enjoyed pretty much anything to do with Ion's side of things, I do think Cas is alright but due to Delta and her side feeling more serious I guess it did drag more, her Genometrix are interesting aswell.
You'll have even less of a reason to care about them if you only skip the cutscenes, not to mention none of the EXA_PICO games were quick starters, as they always needed several hours of set up time to introduce the game world and its characters before actually delving into the story. Plus, the game also assumes the players have at least some experience with the characters and concepts from Ciel nosurge due to being its direct sequel.
+SmileyGamer13 It's an RPG, and an ART one at that. You can't even start to judge the plot after 2 hours, the serie have a tendancy to start its real "plot" in phase 1. That's true to almost to almost every fiction that isn't ""brainless"" so to speak, with Index or Steins;gate as examples in anime, because when the universe the plot takes place in is supposed to be complicated, the buildup WILL be long. All ART games are hit by that HARD, and this one maybe even harder that the others except ART3 because it had to explain the transition from adating sim to what it is right now; even if you did ciel nosurge there is still a lot of build-up to do. Also the beginning is pretty much an introduction and that's it (which... is perfectly logical in the end). It serves to etablish Cass and Delta's role but the interesting part comes after they are introduced (Ion doesn't really need this because of Ciel nosurge and, even if you didn't do Ciel, the 4th-wall gimmick makes the plot build-up a lot easier to follow with her, since Earthes doesn't have a pre-set characterization to deal with, so there is harldy a long "introduction" for her (Or rather, there is one......... In the in-game encyclopedia. You just have to read it) Delta and Cass might be uninteresting at the beginning but it's because you're doing the world build-up with them. Once they get really involved with Interdimend (the 4th-wall breaking stuff) it gets more interesting with them too Their side just have the misfortune of being the one introducing all of the "boring" stuff (which becomes important later)
+aquagon_drag This. Altough I think it's enjoyable enven without the ART games (and the encyclopedia and in game content cover the basics of Ciel) but, well. Pretty much any good RPG has a lot of build-up, it's not supposed to be an action game, and this would even apply to "popular" rpgs such as F7, etc. the whole genre tend to have a slow start story-wise. And character-wise; if the characters are perfect to begin with, 1, that's stupid, 2, good luck with the chara-dev
i would highly recommend reading the beautifully well organized summary of CIEL_NOSURGE, the game preceding Ar Nosurge. It is accompanied by youtube versions if you want to watch, but reading/watching that then playinv Ar Nosurge gives you SO MUCH MORE appreciation for each character. they will mean something to you, and progressing through thier respective stories will be more impactful. especially that of Ion and Casty, whom you can only fully appreciate if you know Ciel Nosurge. I hope you can give the Surge Concerto series a chance, it is actually quite fun and a lot of effort went into creating a new story from Ar Tonelico's universe.

This was easily my favorite hymn out of all the songs from this game.
Lyrics do add a certain oomph to the song, meaning becomes clear(er).
Uno de mis temas favoritos en Ar nosurge thx Myra...:)
I don't know why, but everytime I heard
Queli->EXiV[obe]->[ethes]->ExeC->[TzW]
I always hear it as
Queli->EXiV[obe]->[ethes]->[TzW]

+digifan081 How do you guys even understand this stuff?
+itsacharcoalice artonelico.wikia.com/wiki/REON-4213_Language
Studying. Same as learning any other language.
Yeah. If they ever continue this game's timeline, I'd like to put the work in and learn the language myself.
The amazing about REON-4213 is how it mixes so deeply "people" language with programming language, serving both purposes at the same time.
Good grief, they do keep on compressing the hell out of the language, don't they. It's starting to read less like BASIC and more like minified JS.
I think that's the point of that version of the language though.

anyone else looks for this song after watching sirlionhart gameplay
This doesn't seem like Hymmnos, what exactly is that?

Sounds rather bubbly and J-Popish for something made to control a robot army.
