I have a C6 out of a 77 Lincoln Mark V going into a 59 Ranchero. Is the planetary what determines the gearing of 1st and 2nd gear? If it's a street rod, would you lower the ratios from 2.46 1st gear, 1.46 2nd gear to the 2.72 1st gear and 1.54 2nd gear (about 500hp/tq) or leave stock? It will never go to the drags but I want it to be strong when I punch it.
This is for a street driven car. I used that 2.72 planetary so I would have a little better off the line gearing while still using my 3.25 gears in the rear end. I feel its idea for a street driven car when you don't want a lower gear ratio, in the rear end. I thought I made that point in this series of videos.
That serves two purposes. It gives the band more lubrication, and it gives the fluid somewhere to escape when the clutches in the direct drum are applied by the piston. Which is supposed to help make the transmission shift faster, and firmer.
Did you have to machine anything to change from thrust washer to roller bearing? Also, what's the purpose for the holes in direct drum? I invested in some Assemblee Goo with my last C6. Stuff is like glue.
No machining was required. Here is the kit I bought from the same seller.www.ebay.com/itm/C6-EXTREME-DUTY-LOW-DRAG-WIDE-RATIO-6-PINION-FRONT-PLANETARY-GEARSET/182682848626?hash=item2a88bf0d72:g:MJIAAOSw7ehZdYCW:rk:13:pf:0
I'm in the process of getting enough courage to begin a rebuild of my first transmission and your videos have helped a lot. Thank you! By the way, how are you liking the lower first and second gears? What gearing do you have in the rear end? Thanks again.
I like the lower 1st and second gear. I run 3.25 in the rear. So I can comfortably drive it on the interstates. The lower 1st and 2nd planetary is perfect for what I do with this car.
@@Dragracer64 That's great to hear. I am gathering parts and tools and will be starting my c6 rebuild soon. I will be installing the wide ratio kit as I have 3.00:1 open rear end currently in my '66 Mercury Montclair and might go to 3.25 Trac Loc thanks in part to your input. Thanks again for all of your videos, you are providing a great service!

What's with the drilled holes in the direct drum? I haven't seen that mod anywhere else? band cooling?

@@Dragracer64 Thanks for the feedback. Just found Frank Merkl's video on the holes and their location as well.
