    I was there with my dad... memories still fresh in my mind even after all these years. It's something I will recollect all my life. Toon Toon HWTL. With the new owners and under the management of Eddie Howe maybe it won't be long before we win silverware again....

    I don't think many Mags know this clip is here.Happy memories.I'd forgotten how much talent this side had.The rickety old stadium,totally re-built since then,held more than 62,000 that night.

    Just found this clip.
    This was my first ever NUFC match, 29 May 1969, a night game too, I was 11 years old.
    The trophy was presented in Hungary 11 June 1969 so I never saw them actually lift the cup.
    I’m now nearly 61 and I still haven’t seen NUFC lift a cup.
    That’s 50 years of .......... Oh well, you never know, we still live in hope !

      Wow. Must be agonising 49 and a half years later to not win a single trophy.

    I remember being given Bob Moncur's autobiography as a year's end prize for one of the junior football teams I was in, and reading about this game. He didn't mention what a special goal that second one was, great head down and finish after setting the whole thing up from just outside the center circle.

    It speaks volumes when Newcastle’s last trophy of any worth was televised in black and white (and I don’t mean their jerseys).

    More Scots than English on the pitch.
    Different times, indeed.

      No it was the forerunner to the UEFA cup.

      philip MARSH yes the uefa cup which became the europa league just like the European cup is now ironically called champions league considering teams in 4th place can qualify

    • @pillipful
      @pillipful 6 років тому +2

      Absolutely right. The UEFA cup used to be the hardest to win because you had second to fifth finishers fighting it out amongst themselves. The champions league is virtually an extension of that competition now making the Europa cup more or less redundant. A shame really. Only league champions should play each other in what I still call the European cup. Money money money.
