This one was all new to me. Windmill was completed last year and enables a 20+ mile "downcountry" style loop. Noah Sears and I started and ended at the Butterknife trailhead. After climbing the road to Bangs Canyon, you begin on a slickrock section that is very much like The Ribbon. After going way over 40mph and almost dying a few times, you are then rewarded with rolly polly singletrack for about an hour and a half, before ending at the Colorado River. If you get lucky on the climb back out, there will be a squad of cows emitting poop and causing a ruckus. Just the boost we needed to get us up the 2000ft climb, back to the car. We stopped for about 5 minutes total and the loop took us about three hours. Maybe 4000ft of elevation gain total? When my camera batteries die, I know it was a proper loop. #followcamfriday #MTB Grand Junction, Colorado. Stoked to be home for a minute. West slope, best slope.
Mesa county has some of the most epic trails I've ever riden, glad to call it my home!
Know where I can find some beginner trails? I have a bad knee and nowhere near the amount of conditioning needed for this haha.
@@spacejunk8978 18 road bike trials out in fruita have some easy gravity fed rides that are great for all levels
There are some easy ones out at Lunch Loops that aren't too bad. But 18 RD does have more friendly ones I think.
Awesome. Thanks all!
@@cruncher870 I've taken the wrong turn on lunch loops and had a pretty rough day haha but that was years ago long before I had any idea what I was doing
I've been waiting for someone to make a video on this trail. Nice work! Oh, and I've definitely ridden this trail before. 😉
Cheers for sharing Nate! I just bought a place in Junction and moved to work for Rocky Mounts! Stop by RM next time you're in the GJ area! cant wait to be healthy to ride again! There's so many good trails on the WestSlope
It's dope having rocky mounts here
Cool to see grand junction getting some love IV lived here my whole life ! There is alot of good hiking trails with he monument close by and then the grand Mesa is only an hrs drive which is the world's biggest plateau!!
The ride up to windmill road is fuggin brutal but as you said so worth it.
Always worth the effort.
Now I have to ride this. Now I know what my weekend is going to look like
Sweet! Ride em up, move em out. I'm a rancher so looks familiar too me. Lol!
That trail looked amazing, always impressed how people find these trails out in a bunch of boulders and scrub brush and turn them into bad ass trails.
Love watching Noah ride, so smooth always standing up.
Happy Easter!
Cows make the best trails, ha ha
I need to make the journey to Grand Junction, too many good looking trails out there.
Fruita is a mecca
The trails are great out here.
@@dillonventola408 It was cooler when 4,000 people weren't there lol
@@SamClarkschannel true but I think the new rim trail will ease some of the congestion
Gonna check this out. So happy to finally be in the area…. The trails here are world class
So good! Put on a black armband for me. I just had to dump $60 worth of homebrew down the drain due to tainted conditions. First time in 15 years. Ugh! Thanks for the soothing single track to ease my pain. Cheers Nate!
The struggle is real. I will pour one out for you.
This trail is an adventure! Pretty substantial effort to get yourself in and out of the Windmill Trail itself but man it’s a riot while you are on it!
Definitely a trail that made me want a 120mm downcountry bike!
Probably faster on a gravel bike, lol
Great video as always. Love that kind of scenery and terrain
Damn. You guys can climb, too!
Excellent content as always!
Awesome trail!! your shadow riding next to you on a couple stretches was amazing!!! Love the western slope!
Awesome trail, definitely need to ride that next time I visit GJ, that 4x4 trail looks like it would be fun too
Honestly, I enjoyed the slickrock jeep road the most. You could go 50mph if you knew the lines.
Stoked on this trail, it's a bit of an adventure getting there but it is worth it!
Is it shuttle-able up the access road? Or earn your turns pedal-up?
My gosh! Look at that blue sky!
Looking down into the Grand Valley is surreal.
The grand valley is one of the most incredible places in the world
Had the same "traffic jam" on the Kokopeli Loops. Tried to chase them off the trail for about 1/4 mile dodging land mines as they dropped 'em. Been too long since a ride with Noah. Smooth as ever. Fezarri gonna get slapped with a lawsuit for stealing that Yeti blue.
Noah has the cleanest and smoothest style of all of my talented friends. Always a pleasure riding his wheel.
That looks an awesome trail! Great job Nate and Noah!😎😎🍺🍺
Thanks!!
@@natehills9388 you’re welcome! Keep up the great work Nate!
Awesome ride!!!!
so playful, simply ingenious.💫
Dude out front hardly even pedaled. seriously impressive how much momentum he's carrying over everything.
I might need to ride this trail this weekend, awesome video!
You should!
WOW Nate!! Great trail and super cool views/riding. Looks like you got some cow slop to clean out of the knobs on your tires.
Poop conditions the rubber nicely. I prefer to leave it in there.
Where we ride they allow horses, their shit does not condition the rubber, it slings up either in your face or on your back 💩 🤬
@@okiecalvin64 That's why we say 'smile with your mouth closed' on cow trails
i always wondered if some of the trails for bikes are hikeable …guess i need to find out. Maybe start recording my hikes and upload them.. thank for you content. Gave me some great ideas!
Hello Nate, enjoyed the video and scenic footage. Never had an opportunity to ride in CO. Your drone aerials would have been spectacular! Its time for a pair of YETI blue / black gloves brother! Happy Easter man. Blue skies here in AZ.
More drone action coming soon.
Used to ride my dirtbike over much of that, but probably closed to moto now. Some great terrain right near town. I lived on little park road, a bit higher on the hill. Miss gj for sure!
Windmill and Butterknife are open for moto. Get some.
@@natehills9388 Wish I could Nate, live at least 2 days drive away. Enjoy watching you own those local trails though. So many newly built since I moved. Those trails are quite a bit more difficult than you make them appear! 💪
Well done.
nice and flowy !
Looking forward to it! The only E bike legal trail in the area
Check out Butterknife too.
NO e-bikes!!!
Looks epic!!
Nice trail!! Cowboys!
This is true Colorado.
Thank you Nate. I live near Paonia. I ride in the Westwater/ Loma/ Fruita/ Junction areas a bunch. Done so for years. You didn't say where this is. I'm calling my bike shop tomorrow and hopefully getting "the skinny" on this.
It’s in GJ, above the Lunch Loops system. Near Butterknife.
O barulho do K7 tá igual um grilo, muito top!!! 👏👏👏🚵💨💨💨
Hey Nate or you friends with brad I love watching your Videos I have a signed mud guard from you keep up the great work!🤟
That’s my type of trail. Wide open fast slab into technical fun.
Bit of everything on this one.
Gonna have to find this trail!
Tabeguache.
I was just at bangs canyon in the play area with my truck last night... I didn't know you stay in the west slope
Now that’s my kinda trail!
Reminds me of the Telegraph Trail system right in Durango proper, almost more than other GJ /Fruita trails. High desert is cool riding.
so sick dude
Love my backyard
I was pretty content with a gravel grind tomorrow, but now I want some chunk!
You could ride a gravel bike on this.
@@natehills9388 true, a lot of it was pretty flowy. More fun on the full squish though!
Need to ride this next time I visit family in GJ
Class as usual, love the turd cutter 😂
Slicing them off.
My hometown💗
Same!
Im from fruita
Oh nice
@@RockLee-uf2fs grand junction is growing fast😢
Same
Can you start doing more videos? Maybe Mayhem Mondays or something? I like the trails you ride.
You heading to the Palisade Plunge once it opens? Looks like its going to be a beauty!
Hope so. I have heard mixed reviews so far. Fingers crossed.
The palisade rim is pretty sick too
Tabeguache. Grew up right there, where it hits the Gunnison.
Looks rad minus the massive climb at the end! Wondering if there's any way to park near the bottom and do all the climbing to start...
No not really. Its actually a loop that goes down the hill, all the way to the river and back up. It looks like they edited out climbing back out of it, it ends at the bottom near river
I don't generally include 40 minute dirt road climbs in my videos ;) Watching paint dry.
@Nate Hills if it took you 40mins to climb out, that’s at least an hour for us mere mortals
I just rode that in the opposite direction on a dirtbike... bravo for pedaling it! also, how many breaks did you take? I think I took 5 because of some mechanical issues, but my body was definitely thankful for those...
We didn't stop. haha
Wow. Awesome.
Just curious... where do you find out about the rides you go on (other than word of mouth)?
Is there a device you use to navigate along the trail so you don't get lost?
Trailforks bro.
I don’t really use navigation apps but trail forks and Strada are popular. Most trails aren’t very hard to follow once you find the start.I don’t think this one is on the navigation apps yet.
Looking sharp! Next time rope me a steer yeeeehawww
Another super video! I see you flying your drone on a lot of the movies. Do you get special permission or is there a problem flying the drone in these areas? I have a Skydio 2 drone also and plan on going to grand Junction , Fruita and Moab in May
Always check the local regulations before you fly your drone.
My hands got cold just watching
❤️❤️
You’re not coming with us 😂😂
That squad was with us for 10 minutes, lol
I wish Australia had trails like this, we are close but not quite there yet!
Is mtbing big there? Or what other extreme sports are big there?
Hi Nate, love your videos! What's the name of the road you climbed back out on?
I am not sure what it is called. It is the same way you would climb out of Butterknife.
Third Flats Road....and no it’s not a “Road”.
Much respect to ride this entire loop, I’d need a lift back to the parking lot from the bottom of the dirt elevator.
@@SuperTrophycase I rode this yesterday! And yes, a lift to the trailhead and from the river back to the car would've been appreciated!
@@natehills9388 thank you! This was a killer ride, but definitely has an entrance fee!
Brrrrappppp!
Hey Nate, nice video man(as always)! My dad is wondering which Yeti you are riding in this video. Can you help him out?
Riding my 130lr here.
@@natehills9388 thanks!
Curious, where does the 4000 come from? trail is 2000 on trailforks, did you ride other stuff?
Actually, I have ridden that trail.
1:16 Rip rim 😂
Took it like a champ.
That looks like the jeep trail at bangs canyon trail head
Correct. That is where the fun begins.
@@natehills9388 oh man. I gotta ride that before I move.
how can i get there?? can i drive all the way up to windmill trail starts or do i need to park Bangs canyon TH or somewhere else?
We started at Bangs and rode up the pavement.
😎😎😎😎😎
The (fairly) hellish climb out will certainly keep the squares off the trail.
Okay so whats the name of this trail?
rad looks fun. st george is so fun.
Saint George is fun. This is in Grand Junction Colorado.
@@natehills9388 lol ha. I was wondering... didn’t look familiar although windmill is in hurricane. Was wondering how u found that river!
Rode it last fall
Is Noah wearing a pack?! Oh the horror...
Yeah, this is a proper loop. 3 hour rules in effect.
What was your max. speed?
Not sure. Maybe 35ish?
What bike did you use?
I was riding my 130lr here.
thanks -- and no I have not !
How rude would it be to ride up Windmill?
I live in GJ
hey i live here lol
Great trail but it’s a long slog outta there.
Nothing worth doing is easy.
Wait so you have to ride up the mountain just to ride back down while hoping not to drive off the side of a cliff? Oh, hell no that's what Uber is for.
Why don't you put 'Drone shots' in your recent videos?
Don't worry, more drone coming.
Still a little chilly in Colorado
It was over 80 yesterday;)
When I lived in Vail I rode all winter. Now I live in Paonia. This winter I rode in the Dominguez Escalante Conservation Area 1-2 times per week. We had a mild winter.
