Sea Turtle Hatchling Release

- During patrol on Tuesday, Clearwater Marine Aquarium's Sea Turtle Conservation team recovered 52 sea turtle hatchlings that had disoriented in a pool, hot tub, storm drain and driveway. The hatchlings were brought to CMA for evaluation by our veterinarian Dr. Shelly Marquardt. One is being treated for an eye injury and one passed in transport. 50 turtles received a clean bill of health and were released. Sea turtle disorientations occur when turtles follow artificial lights away from the ocean, which can often result in hatchling mortality. We urge all coastal residents and travelers to turn off your lights during nesting and hatchling season, or to use wildlife sensitive lighting. Let’s all do our part to protect and restore this endangered species in the wild.
All marine turtle footage taken in Florida was obtained with the approval of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) under conditions not harmful to marine turtles. Footage was acquired while conducting authorized conservation activities pursuant to FWC MTP-22/23-013 and MTP-22/23-263.

CMA y'all doing good hard work. Helping these adorable turtles are great. They have alot of obstacles in there path to become adults and most don't make it to adulthood. We appreciate all the help y'all give. I watch a cartoon movie called 'A Turtle's Tale : Sammy's Adventure' , and it's a good movie to show children or anyone. It shows how hard it is for Sea Turtles to get to adulthood. I love the movie and it helps to put the word out that Sea Turtles have a hard life, especially as babies. Why don’t you guys keep them in captivity for a couple months and then release them when they’re bigger so they can have a better chance of survival
