I was born on Mt. CALVARY Ave. Used to be projects in 46. I remember the cemetary and the ball field. Was the Cols. Redbirds around 1950. Cardinals farm team. They became the Cols. Jets. Clippers after that. Also owned by the Pirates and Yankees. Saw Roberto Clemente play as well as Willie Stargell there. Many memories. Haven't been to Cols. in 30+ years. Sad to see the stadium run down.
Thanx. Loved watching Jets and Clippers games here with the fam and friends. Still have the cowbell. Saw the Clown Prince of Baseball, Max Patkin, and The Chicken there. Dime-a-dog nights were awesome. What fun. Last time there game got cancelled because of thunder and lightning.
Went there for years when it was called Jet stadium back in the 70's...it's gonna be turned into a racetrack then I'll return and see a race but after 5 decades in Columbus I had to get out..enjoy yourselves if you can
They also used to play high school football games there when it was known as Franklin County Stadium. The poor guys playing on that field would blow out their knees, ankles , shoulders, arms and concuss due to the “Green concrete”
When I was a kid, the Stadium was called Red Bird Stadium. I attended several baseball games there. A few years ago, I put together a web page describing my early years in Columbus Ohio. Look for Columbus Ohio History to find out more. Lots of good pictures too!
I still have a few cowbells, have a mini clippers bat also! The last game was super sad . People hung around for hrs after the game . I probably been to at least over a hundred games ! Got to play football there too ( Columbus Vikings) a couple times . Haunted house was pretty good , didn't miss one year of that ! But the best memory was having a son and watching him play baseball there !
In July of 2001 after a game I watched a band called Dogstar perform a on flat bed trailer and paid an extra $5 to get on the field to be closer.Keanu Reeves was the bass player 🤘
Cortnie Fogo Great video. Not sure if you have been by in recent days but the first base side of the stadium is flattened. Doesn't look like the Coop any more.
The section of seats that are missing isnt due to the building being structurally unsound. a few months after the ballpark closed, they sold actual seats from the stands to people. thats why they are missing.
Much better than the replacement at Huntington Park if it had been rehabbed. Really too bad the politicians needed to throw money to their developer buddies.
I remember walking the stadium walking every isle selling hotdogs coke and beer. those seats that are missing was where I always sat. O wait? What ever happened to that race track.? Hmmm
Having grown up on the west side of Columbus during the 70's-80's, this video is hard to watch in some respects. So sad to see a well maintained ball field in the day end up like this. I have no interest in the new location, it's much smaller than Cooper stadium and does not have the vibe of Cooper stadium.
I remember going to the final game although it wasn't high tech it had a nostalgic feel to it like you could relax and watch the game not see the fancy electronics
I Remember This As Jet Stadium In The 60's As a Kid and Loved The Atmosphere...❤️ Sad To See It Gone

wow, that is awesome that you remember it with so many name changes. it is sad!
This was my fav ball park of all time. I used to go there all the time. it makes me sad to see it like that. they are gonna make it into a race track.
I remember it in the early 1950s with my grandfather.
It was beautiful.
Yes. My Dad and I went to many games there.

Glad you enjoyed it and got to see teams 8n action when it was open!
Thanks for posting this. It brought back a lot of memories!

The Cooper Baseball Stadium was abandoned and condemned because of the last baseball game since September 1st, 2008.
I saw Garth Brooks in this stadium, I was at the Billy Graham crusade saw a few baseball games
I miss Cooper Stadium so much. Huntington Park is great and all but the Coop always reminded me of simpler and better times.
They also used to play high school football games there when it was known as Franklin County Stadium. The poor guys playing on that field would blow out their knees, ankles , shoulders, arms and concuss due to the “Green concrete”
That sounds painful!

Timothy Cook Awesome Tim! I had no idea it was called Red Bird Stadium. For the state bird cardinal?
Yes. They were called Redbirds b/c they were St. Louis' farm team. They were the Cardinals.
I was a batboy there from 92-94 with Posada, Jeter, Petitte. I would have loved to see the locker room but I doubt they were unlocked.
They were not. That is so awesome that you were a batboy! :)

I played football there too as a kid! SCAA Little Buckeyes! We beat the NAIA Chargers there. Great video. Memories.
one of the few things I don't miss about Columbus- those damn helicopters, seemed like they were buzzing around 24/7
In July of 2001 after a game I watched a band called Dogstar perform a on flat bed trailer and paid an extra $5 to get on the field to be closer.Keanu Reeves was the bass player 🤘
I live in Columbus and loved to watch the clippers play in that stadium but I heard they're going to turn into an ATV race arena
They were slated to turn it into a race track was approved in late 2011 but nothing has happened since.
Cortnie Fogo Great video. Not sure if you have been by in recent days but the first base side of the stadium is flattened. Doesn't look like the Coop any more.
Oh my! We were there at the beginning of march when we took that video. I am so glad we got to take that before it was flattened!
10 years later and those plans never came to fruition.
They will need to get the car racing for the Cooper Stadium.
I heard the ghost of Marshall Brandt still haunts it
The section of seats that are missing isnt due to the building being structurally unsound. a few months after the ballpark closed, they sold actual seats from the stands to people. thats why they are missing.
mike mixon No it was a comet
Ok that is a much simpler explanation
***** Haha, did you hear Cameraman Ken say it was a meteor? :)
+Cortnie Fogo Yes I was laughing so hard when he said that!!lol thanks for that video I used to go there as a kid a lot of memories at the place!
Great exploration of the abandoned Cooper Stadium.
SunbeamsSting Thank you! Sad that it is flattened now.
Cortnie Fogo Indeed sad. Good thing you filmed it when it was still there.
I saw a baseball game here once and was handed a cowbell upon entering the stadium. They really pushed the cowtown image thing.
I had a cowbell from here too
Columbus clippers ring your bells! Lol
Love that place me and my brother, use't to get off work and go. Great place to me, dime a dog, slider nights
At 5:16 what you're looking at is not an office it's were they used to sell Columbus Clippers and other baseball merchandise
That so great you remembered that!!
knowing the police around here im shocked you guys weren't arrested lol
+buckeye8988 they didnt bother us either time we went :)
buckeye8988 it wasn't in the best place I stayed in the bottom and hilltop.
I've been inside there several times & never arrested
@@BusStopProductions. I've been in the old jail b4 it was taken down. That was interesting
Anyone remember the ice cream treat, the Jet Bar?
My grandma and grandpa are buried at the cementary behind the old cooper studiem
Charles Scott Awww!
Used to watch Jeter play there.
Same here
You're awesome, love the videos!

That's Greenlawn Cemetery behind there. I still live in Columbus.Used to be a nice place..So wasn't Green Gables.Born in the 50:s

I learned a lot from your channel. I just subscribed to ya
I had a band competition there
I remember going to the final game although it wasn't high tech it had a nostalgic feel to it like you could relax and watch the game not see the fancy electronics
+Tyler Walter That is how I feel about the old vs new Mud Hens Stadium; I much preferred the old one.
Thank you.
+MrReds1903 You are welcome - glad you enjoyed Cooper Stadium!
...I'd say that collasped part of the grandstand tells the story...structurally unsound...
+Paradise Road you didnt think cameraman kens theory was good? A meteor or something he said. haha.
Memories!
We revisited later, at the 1/2 way torn down point. So sad! ua-cam.com/video/oEHsB2226hI/v-deo.html
Im from Columbus sweet video.
+buckeye8988 thank you for watching!
thats so depressing how much grapphiti is there
Be Wit Cha Ed 👍🏼😎
should have went into the box seats. up above! thats would have been sweet!
The box seats were all locked up. Although that would've been cool!
This stadium is nothing now😢
*alarms go off*
Stands as if nothing is happening
They're going to tearing it down this year (2020) & build high-rise cheaply made over price condos
Dont Dead Open Inside.
I remember that last game
+WizardCows Where you there in person?
+Cortnie Fogo yeah I was, got a free hat out of it
+WizardCows that is so awesome you got to see the final game, and go hens! :)
How'd you guys get in without getting harassed? I swear they converted the front office into a makeshift sherif station
+ty anderson There was no one in that front office when we went and no one bother us :)
Theres enough aluminum and copper in that bitch to get rich lolol that's why they have the alarm I would imagine
It was going to be turned into a race track but it didn't happen
I would like to revisit to see if anything has changed.
@@CortnieFogo I go by it all the time, only thing that changed is bunch of semis are behind the old outfield wall
I dnt care about this video I just think ur beautiful maybe u can ditch the camera man and I’ll take u on a date .
More wasted space and wasted gooobernment monies!
