I kind of disagree with the point about running them near heat sources, because if a room is too cold then dehumidifiers don't work very well. For example when I'm dehumidifying a cold room I'll put an oil heater on low setting a few feet in front of the intake of the dehumidifier, and let the air flow through the fins, and it works a lot better. It has to be close enough to warm the air, but not so close that it heats up the body of the dehumidifier and the condenser.
