Hi there Phil. Long time subscriber here. A couple of your videos helped me decide on which guitar to buy recently. My main guitar is a PRS (my favorite brand too) Custom 24 piezo with the older 85/15 pickups (non TCI). That guitar can do absolutely everything and I have a super strong attachment to it as I found out it was manufactured exactly 3 years before my daughter was born. It's my dream guitar, it even made me sell a guitar I bought from an artist (A Mayones Regius). 2 weeks ago I bought an ESP E-II Horizon III just like the one you reviewed and decided not to buy a PRS Dustie Waring (totally surprising given that PRS is my favorite brand). I've also had a long-lasting and loyal relationship with ESP as my first guitar was an LTD (still have it) and I've had LTD's along the way. I was blown away by the E-II. Perfect weight, very easy to play and the Seymour Duncan Custom 5 is absolutely delightful. It may very well be my favorite bridge pickup now. I regret buying a set of Fishmans to put on my 7 string 5 months ago. I should've kept the sentient in the neck and pair it up with a custom 5 in the bridge.
Anyway... Long story short, thank you for what you do as it definitely helps people. Keep rocking and may your channel keep growing :)

PHIL, I AM enjoyingI your pickup video series more every time I get time to watch these. Definitely appreciate the choice to run the metal pick up into the classic amp AND the Engl amp, and then the other pickups in the Engl amp also.
I likely wouldn't have thought of a PRS pickup set for an upcoming build, it you MAY have just convinced me to try the out.
I'd really LOVE to see,/hear some of the EMG pups NOT the 81/85 or 81/89,sets that are, in some people's minds, what all EMG pickups are, and characterize all the EMG pickups as sounding like those pickups, which have a certain sound and are great at what they do, but they are not pick ups I use from that company. I'd REALLY APPRECIATE hearing the 67,/66 or 57/60, particularly with the "X," preamp variations, the, "A," AlNiCo variations, and the, "TW," splittable variants which have an actual single coil present.
I'd also REALLY APPRECIATE hearing the throwbacks like the HOT 70 or far 55 or doper 77, or variations of these, they also have a selection of many humbuckers they have a selection of P90 replacements that are single and double coil they have really an incredibly wide array of pickups and I think they would be great to explore.

    Hello Philip,
I love your work, thanks for sharing interesting knowledge and content with us all. I have a question: I want to change pickups on my guitar, I love the 57/08 neck, but hate the bridge.
As they are noted to have a low output, Is it possible to install a high output bridge pickup to use them together without having a significant volume drop ?
    Thanks for your answer 🤟🏼

  • @DeathPandaDanceParty
    @DeathPandaDanceParty 3 роки тому

    EMG H2 Ceramic passive pickups.
Once I installed these in my guitar it became my no.1. I play mostly metal on them.
For comparison, my other guitars are equipped with high output/metal pickups like the EMG 81/85, and Seymour Duncan pickups: Invaders, and Alpha + Omega set.
I want to get a PRS Core eventually but I always thought it would be another expense to replace the PRS Core pickups with the H2's so I thought maybe I would just get an S2 and get H2's. Comparing the H2's with PRS pickups would really help.
    Congrats on the 300k subs!

thank you so much for making this video. I was asking riffs, beards, and gear about doing a review on the metal pickups after I saw the jupiter pickups video. You just completely read my mind and that is so freaking cool. I really hope we see the PRS store update the pickups available. About 10 years ago I had a guitar stolen that had McCarty pickups in them back when you could just order straight up McCarty pickups from their website. I miss them terribly and I haven't ever been able to find them since.

I have three PRS guitars with different pickups. The pups in my 35th anniversary, TCI S are the best. The 245 S are warmer and also good but in the latest guitar it was 85/15, and I don’t like them at all. They are scooped and lack the mid tones I want for blues.
I bought a set from Irongear in UK, the Blues Engines and soldered them last week. They sound great and aren’t pricey.
    Good video as always!

Great video! You run the best guitar channel on UA-cam. I’ll tell you why. You’re honest! Brutally honest if needed. You listen to your followers as much as you can. You are very thorough in your reviews. You’re not into trying to make a movie like many guitar channels do. Their more worried about a fancy intro, etc. I’ve seen other channels that will accept an item from a company and they will praise it like it’s the best thing ever. Knowing it’s trash. As an example with no names... A little travel guitar that was clearly garbage and literally falling apart in the video but they played it off and kept going. They even promoted it saying viewers really should go buy one. I appreciate you very much. I appreciate how you tell companies up front that if you don’t like it, you will say you don’t but you have always gave a great explanation of why you don’t like an item. Most you tubers get so excited and caught up in all of the free stuff, they stop being real. So thank you for staying true. On another note, I purchased a fender players Strat last week. I love it but omg, the fret leveling was the worst by far that I’ve ever repaired. After hours of work and setup, I have it “almost” dialed in.

Very useful review. I recently bought a custom 24, swamp ash body, maple neck/fretboard/top, and it has a 59/09 bridge, 85/15 neck. I’m underwhelmed especially by the 59/09. I see it was put in as a midway compromise. They sound great clean and in all 5 positions, but just can’t drive an amp enough. I only dig them through the Friedman JJ Jr. I default to BKPs all the time, but I think I may try the PRS Metal set or Metal/57/08 combo before hand.

I'm thinking I'd really like the 57-08 neck and metal bridge combo mag swapped with UOA5s.

So funny and ironic, I spent my Saturday doing this with my 3 SE’s and I settled on my fav being 5909 bridge and 5708 neck but it may have been influenced by the kick ass look of it 😜

Id love to see a Dimarzio roundup. I’m not as familiar as id like to be. Have looked at the PAF vs 36th Anniversary before with interest

One of my favorite things about PRS pickups, is that they all have just the right amount of compression so you literally never need a compressor. You can hear it plain as day

Yesterday I installed a treble bleed into my guitar 💪
0.50€ for the resistors and capacitor, it was easier than expected to setup

Phil, what is your opinion of the PRS Dragon II set? I was fortunate to come across a set and installed it in my SE 245 that I modded with CTS 500K coil split pots for the tones and CTS 500K pots for volume as well. Thanks.
