According to what you posted, the Dems could turn that around and said that anyone who needs protection from bad guys needs armed guards. Consider what happened to that Trump supporter who was executed by antifa in Portland. He could have used some armed guards.

But keep in mind also that cops often exercise judgment in what they arrest people for, using their experience to make practical judgments about whether or not a kid in a fight or using drugs is on the path toward criminality, or just a stupid teenager who made a mistake. God help us when practical judgment is reduced to an algorithm.
