This was really well made Cherry, this was also needed. After I heard the news I was scared for the closure of my own league and that the competitive scene would be shut, but I’m glad people are wanting to keep the old bean, it’s so unique and just gives the game that familiar feel.
im a little worried worried about this split test, tbh. what do we do for players that have the split test, when most leagues ban bean2? do we have to change rules midseason, allow them to play on a registered alt? i guess only time will tell
As an ex league veteran, the only way the bean body’s could improve and not drastically effect the league community. 1. They reanimate the body’s to get it closer to the original. 2. make a legacy hand position. 3. make the bodies slower and the same speed as the original. 4. Imo fix the faces because they look weird Personally if they added/ removed these features it would make the new bean look, and feel as close to the original while still upgrading it.
Thankfully some people have called out how people can abuse the new beans animations as an advantage and how its a disadvantage. MamaMonkey has seen some examples and said she said that she would get them to the team. So there could be changes to animations in the future, possibly making it less wobbly and making it stand more still like the old bean did
Rec room trying not to make their relationship with the community more abusive than it already is challenge. God I hate the devs so much with their corporate greed for more money making strategies
it's not really about money, they're just fixing something that we've been complaining about for years, which is optimization. That is one of the main points for the new bean body
@ I mean true. I personally find if I’m In a lobby with mostly new beans i tend to lag more though. Plus they’re using it for player ugc which is only nice for the creative side of the community. This “bean” was not thought about for any other community it was made to make rr and the creative community some cash. Thats it. Since RR gets a cut off every item sold plus if people want an item they most likely will purchase tokens because it’s a pain to grind for them.

Them changing bean bodies have COMPLETELY broken holotars. You can't play more than 2 holotars without tremendous lag on stand alone headsets EVEN ON PCVR you can only have up to 5 without lag I used to be able to have up to 27 holotars going at once, but new beans have broken a very fun mechanic
In a thread on the rec room discord server I had one of the same ideas as in the video In the thread I made it says "let all the old players that played during the old bean era of rec room keep it" It referring to old bean
The upgraded bean bodies are so much better peformance wise, which is why the old ones are getting removed. Rec Room isn't trying to replace old bean bodies, but rather offer a upgraded/better one, hence the name "upgraded bean bodies". Legacy beans are taking up too much memory storage than the new ones. They are also trying to keep improving it and changing it until it's basically like the old ones.
im hopeful that they'll iterate on them, they seem to be trying to make them better for new and veteran players alike. one thing i was thinking is possibly an option for legacy hand size
Honestly, just get used to it, luckily I got used to the full body when that came out (even though it was optional is still used it) and since upgraded bean uses the same face system that fullbody uses, I don't have to deal with trying to completely redo my face (which is what some players are gonna have to do). I've seen some players swap to upgraded Bean so when Rec Room finally erases classic Bean, they won't have to do anything. But in the end, things can't stay the same forever, something has to be "upgraded"
i prefer bean2 visually tbh, i really like seeing my hands and i like how the faces look on bean2 more, i just hope they buckle down on the animations if nothing else

because some people have been playing 2016 - present day, and even though rec room removed the wiggle on beans a long time ago, there are still people liking old bean, as they are veterans of rec room.
At this point I feel like people don't even have a viable reason to dislike new bean other than "it's just not the same". People just don't like change, even if it's for the better.
RR has to remove the old bean for optimization and new tech that will grow the game, but the issue is it is TOO early, the new beans aren't close enough to the old bean yet for it to be removed, they need to make it more accurate before they flat out remove it.
Great job on this video. As much as I want Rec Room to keep the old bean, I think it’s one of those things they will unfortunately remove no matter what we say. I know a lot of people who don't like the new bean body and still, till this day only use the old one, and for them to remove it I know it would make a lot of people upset in the league community. I heavily dislike bean two since it mess up sizes/shapes in a weird way. The head is smaller and pushed back the body is a bit bigger and the hands just look so off to me. i wish they just made new version that WAS exactly like the old one not some drop shipped looking version. Ive been a builder on this game for 6 years and what they're doing to us is so much worse than average players. but players are EVERYONE so yeah.

Rec Room isn’t going to listen to its players, they’re going to listen to their investors. That’s been obvious for years now. Every big decision they’ve made has been about squeezing more money out of UGC, not actually improving the game for the people who stuck around. The old Bean being removed is just another example of them forcing unnecessary changes because it benefits them, not us. Meanwhile, other platforms like VRChat actually care about player experience and creative freedom without forcing updates that kill what made the game fun. If you’re tired of being ignored, take your time and energy somewhere that respects it.

I would hate if rec room forced the new beans, man I loved the days when we only had the classic beans, it was such an iconic part of rec room, it was something that made the game stand out. But when they added full body’s, I wasn’t really a fan (no offence) it’s just that the beans were so classic, sad that we’re seeing all these unoriginal full body’s and new beans (AGAIN, I MEAN NO OFFENCE)
I feel like some things should stay old, The only things i enjoy about the new bean is showing your hands while grabbing items, otherwise i think they aren't really a good addition to the game. (also mustaches and beards look really weird on it.)
i tested teh old bean and the new bean and the old bean ran smoother for me i was getting 120 fps in my dorm with the old bean and when i use the new bean i get 90 to just barley hitting 100 fps, so its not more optimized for me at least, this is why i still use the old bean.
I just feels like they want to move on from the things that gave the game it's style. (I.E. 3D menus) and they are starting to remove the "your in a collage, doing random stuff and making friends" setting.
Nah cuz I gotta comment again to say this. For those of you who say you're gonna quit Rec room due to the removal, or you say rec room is greedy and corporate. Or maybe you just think Rec room is ruining their game. You are the same people who say that you have been a player for a long time, and hate the "new" Rec Room for what they're doing with the game. But to be honest, if you REALLY cared about the game. You wouldn't be hating on them, you would realize that the game is in a progression state, they're trying to move the game from it's old style to something newer and more long lasting. This is going to take a LONG time, and there are going to be MANY issues. And at some times they may not make decisions we may not like. But in the end, they didn't ask for all of these issues, and bugs, and hate. It's just a byproduct of hard times. So if you really cared for the game, you wouldn't hate, or revolt. You would stand with rec room and their choice, Believing they will eventually reach the product they're working for and hoping it will be great. And for those of you who still disagree, can you really call yourself a true fan? Or are you just too insufferable to deal with change?
I'm totally fine with and aware that the game is in a progression state, and if they didn't upgrade the avatar the game would have long term performance issues, however i feel like they're making the transition far too soon love UGC, love the new faces, not a fan of them moving so quickly with the changes, rather than leaving both as an option and iterating on Bean2 until the appropriate changes are made for all players
New bean are so bad for dodgeball reasons: hard to regrab , hard catches , hard throws , no more trickshots (jugling in air) , more Shadow balls , 0% to catch insta in fl (why , but u gonna get delay catch out) , bigger hitboxes. Did they gonna remove old bean i gonna leave rec room.

As someone who’s seen the topology of the old bean bodies, this is a huge performance improvement that will make RR run overall MUCH better, visually I do prefer old bean but with time people will get used to it and it won’t be a problem anymore, trust me this is a much better change, think about it this way, would you prefer to have a game that remains the same and slowly gets less playable, or a game which changes but stays playable? That’s the point they reached
If they force the new bean im not going back to dodgeball league it will kill the game for me. The outfits looks very plastic like and it irritates me.

It won't make sense to keep it, new bean was made to optimize the storage. I agree with you that the new bean has some issues but it'd better to fix those bugs rather than keeping old bean that is basically on life support.

I think I can get used to the new bean bodies, but they NEED to fix the faces and the head shape.

I feel like 90% of the new bean hate is because of the hand offsets, IMO they should just give us the choice to use legacy hand offsets.
Mine is mostly facial offset and holotars issues.
