Thanks for this - very helpful. What sort of size genie would you suggest for a 15KVA inverter and 20KWh of batteries. I’ve heard twice inverter size suggested but this seems big! Tks.
Your welcome. Thank you for the feedback. As for generator size I think of it like this. If I run it for 2 hours can I charge my batteries enough to get me through until the morning and also run my other loads at the same time. We have customers with 15kva inverters with 6kva generators. They run it for 3 hours instead of 2 and don't run the electric oven while it is running as an example.
Hi there, Why are you all guys only explaining how the system works. That’s the most simply part of installing a start / stop system. Why not making a video from A to Z. Example: type of generator, how to install the wiring, what do you need to let it all work (victron cerbo? , relaybox) and step by step explain it all. I think than you will have a briljant video. Chears and have a good one 👍🏻
Please can you assist.we have a victron quattro with a 13.5 kva generator. We then changed out the generator to a better quality 15 kva generator. When the generator is starter manualy the inverter latches the generator and then drops it out..The installers of the victron tells me its because of unstable herts...But checked and it all looks stable. Can you please tell me what specs ia the victron looking for from the generator to be happy?
They have a very wide range of hertz. When you start the generator. Go into the Multiplus on your color screen and see what happens. And is is hard wired? I have had seen issues before with plugs before. And if the box is ticked in the inverter to accept a wide range its 45-65 hertz they will accept.
Is the the load applied to the generator the instant it starts or can there be a programmed delay to let the generator warm up before the load is put on the generator?
It all depends. Most of the guys remove the RCD from the generator and some don't. We have found the RCDs on the generator trip a lot when it's raining.
Thanks for getting back. Do you have personal email contact? As an installer in NZ I could use some advice from time to time, you have more experience than me and you are always learning in this game. Could you do a video on ground neutral bonding in a system with a generator back up using 2x multiplus II inverters in parallel? There is potentially a ground neutral bond in the generator, each inverter and a main distribution box if people aren't aware of this side of things which is common even with qualified electricians. That would be a great video. Loving your channel 👍

@@TheOffGridShopmany thanks. Makes sense.

Thank you. We can and there are lots of different controls for generators. Will do something though.
Exactly what I needed to know.... Thanks Mike for another great honest and informative video. Just sent you an email with a system enquiry. Cheers :)
Awesome thank you!

Well made video thanks Mike.
Thank you. Appricate the feedback.

Very good question. That is a new setting released recently.
So yes you can.
@@TheOffGridShop Thank you!
Your welcome.
@@TheOffGridShop Where is this setting found?
Are you running floating neutral generators keeping the only ground neutral link in the system right at the inverter?
It all depends. Most of the guys remove the RCD from the generator and some don't. We have found the RCDs on the generator trip a lot when it's raining.
