Similar story with our independent guy. He worked for Matco for 30 years. Contract was up, he was close to retirement. He asked for a 5 year contract to get him there. Matco said 10 years or nothing. He's now an independent and Matco is on it's second driver for our route since him. Don is so dependable you could set your watch by him.
Service is worth money. My mac guy is loyal as a huntin' dog. Right as rain. Will help any good tech . Always goes extra mile for us. Vs snap on guy , doesn't even bring the "truck special" bucket in our shop. Seen him with it at a buddies shop. And he's snotty as all outside. Acts like his stuff don't stink. Matco driver I seen 2wice in 3 months.
I worked in a custom shop in Murfreesboro about 5 years ago and Matt was our tool guy. His tool truck speaks for itself, but man his personality is second to none. Sledge is a great dude
I use to use a VW camper van, & a 914 Porsche to start my business in Southern California. I turned a bedroom start up into a Nation Wide Company. Thumbs up to you!
Been years since I’ve been on a Tool Truck, switched Trades. We had the big brands stop by the shop, they were good to deal with and supported there products. I am glad Matt and his crew didn’t service my area, I would have had to buy another box to fill up with tools. I really appreciate the honest answers. You guys in Tennessee are lucky. Thanks for the videos and sharing your great locally owned business.
Yeah, 10 years our independent dealer was by FAR my favorite. There was never a week he wasn’t there, treated you like family, and by far the best prices. He actually retired just a few weeks ago and it’s sucked so far.
I’ve purchased a good fair share of tools from Matt. He’s got great customer service when it comes to working with you on anything and getting you a warranty when needed. He will go out of his way to get your business and is overall a really nice guy.
I remember Matt from his cornwell days. A few dealers left cornwell around that same time. We where left with shitty tools and no one to warranty them. Good to see him again.
And the even more shitty tools he's selling now all gear wrench aka fear wrench vim aka grim and all that other import shit that takes forever to get a single replacement item and when you have no indy guy to service it you can't mail in your warranty directly to most of the import companies been down this road I'll stick to the truck brands atleast I can mail in their shit and get a replacement
Thanks for putting this video out there. I noticed the truck while in Franklin and just had to check it out. Going on his truck is literally Tool Porn. I do love me some Snap On but being no longer in the business just cannot afford that level of tools. His truck literally has pretty much everything that you cannot find anywhere else. Of course there is a tool box full of things that I didn't know I needed and that "secret cash price" is legit.
back in the 60s when i first started out as a mechanic,,i bought most of my tools from an indepedent truck,, ANDERSON BROTHERS TOOL COMPANY out of NEW CASTLE, PA..
Matt, glad to see somebody breaking away from the high dollar tool trucks. I am just outside of Louisville KY, and I own an independent boat repair shop. I am not tied to any brand yet I repair them all. My main business is outboards on bass boats and pontoon boats. I used to walk on the brand name tool trucks in the past, but paying their prices would dig deep in to my paychecks.
Always great content clay. Lots of respect for how you help show everyone new stuff and help the independent workers get some exposure. And especially for newer mechanics and people who are newer to the world of tools, you're a lifesaver! Keep up the awesome work, sir. Thanks for the great videos!
Our independent guy is not even close to being on Matt’s level. His dedication and attention to detail really are prominent, I wish he and his team all good luck and success. Just jealous I didn’t get to take this tour myself
This could be a great opportunity for Mr. Joe to look into. He would still more or less be an independent but it would give him a stronger position in the market. Might want to pass that on to him. Matt said he has another lettered up truck ready to go. Hmmm.
Damn, I wish we had a local Independent tool truck in Paris,Tn. Matco and gearwrench is all. No Mac , The snap on guy is one of those that you never see tool payment or not.
I've bought alot of tools from Matt but hands down my favorite are the mountain flex head ratchet wrenches! I've beat the crap out of them daily and they hold up well. Life savers for turbo replacement on alot of today's medium to heavy trucks.
I going to watch this one again! A fine job was done on this video and to everybody involved it was very interesting with some humor mixed in. 19 thumbs up! Most of the places that were mentioned I've been in or driven through many times. My brother went to school in Murfreesboro aka MTSU.
Men have had a special relationship with tools since we figured out how to turn a stone into a club, into a knife, into a spear and then discovered you can make a damn fire with it, if you hit it just right. ( was probably using the wrong tool for the job one day) We will always love our tools.
Matt is one of the best tool dealers I have ever come across. I am about to start in the tool dealer business very soon and wanted to get as much knowledge I could on this business and meeting Matt is one of the best decisions I could have ever made. He is very out going and has this business figured out in many different ways including the most inventory I’ve ever seen on a tool truck. Drew is an awesome guy to ride around with as well very outgoing and laid back and has great customer relationships on his route. They do not pressure anyone into buying anything it just happens because of how good they are to there customers. Definitely will give you tool dealer goals if this is what you are looking to make your career.
We had a independent tool seller one time, lasted about 6 weeks sadly, had some good tools on there but he didn't offer a payment plan so sadly it felt just as if I was buying it from a store. Techchoice seems to be really good!
another great video clay!! your intros to the videos are awesome... i gotta say that im actually really impressed with techs choice tool guys! great trucks, amazing inventory!!!! thanks for the video cheers man!!
I wish we had one of your trucks in Milford Ct. here. The others don't want to be bothered unless your buying a 10 grand box or scanner. It sure has changed since the 80's.
When these guys were talking weekly sales numberes , do you realize that his business is doing about 1.1 million dollars a year in gross sales. Other things to note. His inventory does not expire or go bad. That's another plus for him. I don't know what his bottom line profit percent is but I would guess to say it's healthy. I don't know about his web presence but if he put a good person on it I would bet that he could march his tool truck sales. The way to make money in business is to identify the void and then fill it. Clay, man great video. I am going to have to look these guys up. Stay safe and God bless.
One problem with tool routes is you need to give the guys in the shop credit, like sell a set of sockets for $180 but collect $20 a week on the $180. Also guys that owe you $300-400 just up and disappear,
Clay you do such a great job at keeping up with most of the new tools thanks. I wish there was more indepedent tool guys just for the service of face to face buying. 🔧🔧🔧🔧👍👍
Got to say the new Streamlight was my first purchase off a Snap-On truck it really is the best light out there and you can get different colored rings for the front of them
By far the coolest guy to come across the channel, by a long shot. Wish he ran in Wv I’d ditch the tool trucks for him. Seems like a dude you wanna do business with
Wow they both have packed Trucks!! I would spend my whole lunch time checking it all out! They seem like really cool guys, and I sure like that cash deal 💸 Cash is King 😁
Lowes had the larger size rope ratchets around 15 yrs ago for like $12. 3/8 rope and a dollar more for 1/2" rope. I bought two of each. And if the rope gets bad you can buy the braided rope by the foot and keep getting it! The ratchet assembly last forever!
What a brilliant business. Really it is needed, I have a lot of snap on but not everything is needed in that brand. So why not have a tool truck come by with everything else.
Those rope pulleys are great, i bought 3 of them several years ago from my tool truck here in Sweden. I use them several times each week, holding calipers, driveshafts, exhausts, control arms, coolant pipes, wiringharnesses. I installed shackles on the base of my 2 post lift so i can pull control arms down. Buy them, they are great.
The reason I don't do tool trucks is because I understand the ways they make money on us. This guy on the other hand. Seems to be less of an unfair predator. I'd buy from him
I love purchasing tools from the JDTCo, he has an app and it's priced pretty fair. Usually beats the big box companies price wise and I'd rather support a small business.
I saw you on joes truck when he put up a vim wrench extender cannot recall his price but it was either $49 bucks or $59 bucks . I waited for awhile got very luck got mine for $39 bucks on eBay . Bought there last one . Great tool
The 2767 the Milwaukee 1/2 drive high torque impact wrench. I love that thing I have one for when I’m at home and need to change or rotate my tires. I keep the Milwaukee m12 1/2 in stubby impact wrench in the car for quick and easy tire change.
That was a COOL segment!! I definitely will buy some tools from them. They need trucks in Dallas Fort Worth area, they would kill it in TX. Really enjoyed all those tools recommendations
Damn Clay, I’ve bought all kinds of tools because of you. Now, I got to have me a couple of them “Rope Ratchets”! BTW, thank you for taking your time to travel to Nashville, meet these fellas, record and edit a professional video for us! Those guys are cool, maybe, If we knew a guy one of those trucks could be at the Meet Up?!?!
I'm just a DIYer right now but would love to get into the industry. That said I think starting out an independent dealer would be a much smarter choice for someone like me who can't afford to sell their soul to snap on.
So Clay, you show us all of the tools that you buy, cool tool video would you show the favorites, all brands including, nobody hurt, everyone happy, just you’re personal, thought, and or opinion?
Ii wish we had an independent tool truck in our area (Portland, OR). Tired of dealing with our snap on and Mac guys, and we can’t get the other trucks.
Hey Clay, from the other side of the pond in England! Watched a load of your videos in the last few weeks. There’s been a ton of tools featured in the trucks I wish we could get over here in the UK !
How RUDE of Cornwell Tools telling someone "you'll never make it" when they dissolved their distributorship! What a disgusting individual to speak to this fine gentleman in that way! Thank goodness that he went out on his own and straight to SUCCESS! Cornwell Tools- if you read this, you can bet your last dollar that you will never see any of my dollars!
You know theirs 2 sides to a story and your getting one side they don't terminate dealers unless they have to and even if they are under performing they work with you until you can pay for tools anymore and find a replacement and asfar cornwell going out of business idk about that dealers springing up and staying on all around me and my former matco guy is switching to cornwell and he's is a very successful matco dealer and now switching
I've been on the trucks for 33 years and MAN those trucks are stocked! Wish they were in Texas. S A specifically
Similar story with our independent guy. He worked for Matco for 30 years. Contract was up, he was close to retirement. He asked for a 5 year contract to get him there. Matco said 10 years or nothing. Matco driver I seen 2wice in 3 months.
He is by far the best tool distributor you have had on the channel. Doesn't bullshit you.
Seems like he has so many options he could be selling he only sells the best, you ain't gotta lie when it's the best
Im glad to see this . This is what America needs the small independent businesses .these big corporate monsters need to be taught a lesson.
If I could give two thumbs up I would.. Now we need a Matt Sledge UA-cam channel.. Nothing but the highest respect for Matt..!
Legend has it ol boy is still shaking his head
😂
I worked in a custom shop in Murfreesboro about 5 years ago and Matt was our tool guy. His tool truck speaks for itself, but man his personality is second to none. Sledge is a great dude
Yeah i liked him a lot. I could see why he’s doing so well in his business. Super cool. No B.S. and he knows his products and offered great prices
I love supporting small American owned businesses, thanks Mr. Koon and Mr. Sledge for your time.
I’m from the UK. Wish there had been a truck like yours about when I was plumbing. Great vid 👍
I use to use a VW camper van, & a 914 Porsche to start my business in Southern California. I turned a bedroom start up into a Nation Wide Company. Thumbs up to you!
I got my filter pliers through snap on and I paid $120… I wish we had independent trucks out here in Vegas, this is awesome
Holy crap!I had no idea. I would love an independent!
Yep! Especially one that had a truck that loaded down !
Get joe a better truck lol
This guy makes Joe look like he's in kindergarten.
Hey Clay, I just watching this video now. These 2 guys are great. Plus they have some variety. It's nice to see their enthusiasm on the products.
Yeah, 10 years our independent dealer was by FAR my favorite. There was never a week he wasn’t there, treated you like family, and by far the best prices. He actually retired just a few weeks ago and it’s sucked so far.
I like this guy my respect goes out to him seems legit hope he grows and comes to Illinois
What I see is “Tool Gold”. Very nice truck setup.
I'm not a tool truck guy but these are the type guys I'd be more likely to do business with vs the other big names
his truck is LOADED. love the variety of tools this guy carries.
I’ve purchased a good fair share of tools from Matt. He’s got great customer service when it comes to working with you on anything and getting you a warranty when needed. He will go out of his way to get your business and is overall a really nice guy.
Thanks brother !!!
Right on
Great to see Zack made it in the vid you have no idea how much this means to him, great video
I remember Matt from his cornwell days. A few dealers left cornwell around that same time. We where left with shitty tools and no one to warranty them. Good to see him again.

Personality and attitude....... there are MANY people who could learn a lot from Matt.
Exactly
back in the 60s when i first started out as a mechanic,,i bought most of my tools from an indepedent truck,, ANDERSON BROTHERS TOOL COMPANY out of NEW CASTLE, PA..
CLAY I'm in NY and I'm loving this guy, I wish could walk in that tool van right now, I wish him all the best
thank you brother

Super cool wish we had tool guys like you in York Pennsylvania.
This guy has it figured out, he’s goin a amazing job
I bought tools from Matt when I worked for Corporate Flight Management, he's a good dude.
We just got finished shooting a new video with him that will be on next Thursday
Always great content clay. Lots of respect for how you help show everyone new stuff and help the independent workers get some exposure. And especially for newer mechanics and people who are newer to the world of tools, you're a lifesaver! Keep up the awesome work, sir. Thanks for the great videos!
Much appreciated
guy definitely knows his stuff, and is passionate about what he is selling.
Our independent guy is not even close to being on Matt’s level. His dedication and attention to detail really are prominent, I wish he and his team all good luck and success. Just jealous I didn’t get to take this tour myself
I wished we had him too

That cyclops light is badass.
Nice! Great salesman and enthusiasm! thx guys

Yessir I use those all the time for those reasons
O.K.
Second comment.......that truck is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!
The inventory Matt has is UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!! EXCELLENT!
Awesome to see ! I’m 30 mins south of them and have seen the trucks in Murfreesboro but have never been on one.
You missing out !
I going to watch this one again! A fine job was done on this video and to everybody involved it was very interesting with some humor mixed in. 19 thumbs up! Most of the places that were mentioned I've been in or driven through many times. My brother went to school in Murfreesboro aka MTSU.

Thank you brother I appreciate the positive reinforcement… Yes MTSU is just right down the street
Independent Tool Trucks are the ONLY way to Go !!!
Man glad to see Your a Mississippi man , I am located in Biloxi !!!!!
I wish there was a independent guy around cape girardeau mo area people would go nuts for one!!
Men have had a special relationship with tools since we figured out how to turn a stone into a club, into a knife, into a spear and then discovered you can make a damn fire with it, if you hit it just right. ( was probably using the wrong tool for the job one day) We will always love our tools.
I wish there were more trucks like this.
Me too
Wow couple of great guys and man them was some loaded trucks. Lots of great stuff on their trucks.
Matt is one of the best tool dealers I have ever come across. I am about to start in the tool dealer business very soon and wanted to get as much knowledge I could on this business and meeting Matt is one of the best decisions I could have ever made. One of my favorite people to buy tools from shows up to the shop in a pickup truck with the bed loaded down and comes when you call.
Matt sledge is a stand up guy good guy to know and deal with
We had a independent tool seller one time, lasted about 6 weeks sadly, had some good tools on there but he didn't offer a payment plan so sadly it felt just as if I was buying it from a store. Techchoice seems to be really good!
another great video clay!! your intros to the videos are awesome... i gotta say that im actually really impressed with techs choice tool guys! great trucks, amazing inventory!!!! thanks for the video cheers man!!
This tool trucks bring back nightmares fresh out of high school 😅
Great video great support for the independent tool truck
I wish we had one of your trucks in Milford Ct. here. The others don't want to be bothered unless your buying a 10 grand box or scanner. It sure has changed since the 80's.
Yeah man I would love to have that truck here !
One of the best, new, fresh videos lately.
Yeah he’s got the goodies !
Love to know more about Nick, seems a great character if these men get in with him
When these guys were talking weekly sales numberes , do you realize that his business is doing about 1.1 million dollars a year in gross sales. Other things to note. The way to make money in business is to identify the void and then fill it.
Clay, man great video. I am going to have to look these guys up.
Stay safe and God bless.
At 40% to 50% mark up. He making a killing.
One problem with tool routes is you need to give the guys in the shop credit, like sell a set of sockets for $180 but collect $20 a week on the $180. Also guys that owe you $300-400 just up and disappear,
Those V8 wrenches are a lifesaver! I have both sizes of sets, up to 2 5/8".
They are awesome !!!
Clay you do such a great job at keeping up with most of the new tools thanks. I wish there was more indepedent tool guys just for the service of face to face buying. 🔧🔧🔧🔧👍👍
Got to say the new Streamlight was my first purchase off a Snap-On truck it really is the best light out there and you can get different colored rings for the front of them
long videos are the best!
Wow nice haha. It's nice seeing you in Nashville tn. I live about 45 minutes away.
We need guys like this in Colorado
Lowes had the larger size rope ratchets around 15 yrs ago for like $12. 3/8 rope and a dollar more for 1/2" rope. I bought two of each. And if the rope gets bad you can buy the braided rope by the foot and keep getting it! The ratchet assembly last forever!
My independent dealer here in Ohio is tech’s choice. Shout out to Buster.
ive partied with, good guy
Got the aircat 1150 1/2" drive impact for Christmas. It is one bad dude! They make some cool stuff and are way underrated
I usto use one on aircrafts, saved my knuckles and my forearms, countless times
What a brilliant business. Really it is needed, I have a lot of snap on but not everything is needed in that brand. So why not have a tool truck come by with everything else.
was nice talking to you cant wait for the light to get here
your awesome man
Those rope pulleys are great, i bought 3 of them several years ago from my tool truck here in Sweden. I use them several times each week, holding calipers, driveshafts, exhausts, control arms, coolant pipes, wiringharnesses. I installed shackles on the base of my 2 post lift so i can pull control arms down. Buy them, they are great.
This dude is amazing!!!!
The reason I don't do tool trucks is because I understand the ways they make money on us. This guy on the other hand. Seems to be less of an unfair predator. I'd buy from him
He seems like a really cool dude, I wish we had a independent guy in Cali.
I would love to have that truck run our shop
I love purchasing tools from the JDTCo, he has an app and it's priced pretty fair. Usually beats the big box companies price wise and I'd rather support a small business.
I saw you on joes truck when he put up a vim wrench extender cannot recall his price but it was either $49 bucks or $59 bucks . I waited for awhile got very luck got mine for $39 bucks on eBay . Bought there last one . Great tool
The Astro lights are amazing and have the magnetic chargers
The 2767 the Milwaukee 1/2 drive high torque impact wrench. I love that thing I have one for when I’m at home and need to change or rotate my tires. I keep the Milwaukee m12 1/2 in stubby impact wrench in the car for quick and easy tire change.
Wish I was still in Nashville so I could get on that truck and buy all the green tools
I wished he would!
"This tool is not treated very well" I feel so attacked. I beat the daylights out of those double box ratcheting wrenches.
I'm just a DIYer right now but would love to get into the industry. That said I think starting out an independent dealer would be a much smarter choice for someone like me who can't afford to sell their soul to snap on.
Yep it’s a smarter choice for everyone !
Dam I wish we had one of these tool trucks not just the big 3 everyone knows
I love how the Matco guy here beats his chest about being "his own boss" while the Matco van follows him around periodically keeping him in check
By far, way,way far the best tool truck vid ever done !!! Wish they were in Newton county Ga.
I wished we had them here too!
So Clay, you show us all of the tools that you buy, cool tool video would you show the favorites, all brands including, nobody hurt, everyone happy, just you’re personal, thought, and or opinion?
Those CTA extra deep socket are great, you end up using them for way much applications than what you'd thought at first.
Man we are blessed for sure over here, there’s always better tools dropping weekly it seems like.
We need one of these trucks to start stopping by our shop in Lewisburg, TN
Best tool truck on your channel. 💯
Brand new Toyota Tech here, thanks for all the videos man!
More to come!
We need 1 in Massachusetts.
We got a truck for just about every big name here. We NEED Techchoice.
Best of the different categories
Great video, I wasn't excepting a double header tool truck video on a Tuesday!
Thanks 👍
I Love this guy.
a tool truck with good priced tools wow wish had one of those around here
I'll agree 100% with the 3/8 air and 1/2 pneumatic comment. Glad I'm not the only one.
3/8 coordless
I knew what ya meant ! Haha that’s how I feel about it
How RUDE of Cornwell Tools telling someone "you'll never make it" when they dissolved their distributorship! What a disgusting individual to speak to this fine gentleman in that way! Thank goodness that he went out on his own and straight to SUCCESS!
Cornwell Tools- if you read this, you can bet your last dollar that you will never see any of my dollars!
Cornwell tools is on it's way out of Business. Our Cornwell dealer went over to GrearWrench.
That’s a really odd thing for a Cornwall dealer to say since they sell a ton of Irwin, gearwrench, Lang, otc, Milwaukee and other brands.
Great video y'all have a good one and stay safe 👍
Sledge I wish I had a dealer like you around I love the truck !
Me too !
Thanks brother !!
