Have you ever heard Peter Mattei or Bernd Weikl sing this? Domingo's over the hill "fake baritone" performance is not even in the same universe, let alone "the same league".
@@NYCOPERAFAN Of course I have. Tannhauser is currently my favorite opera, and I've enjoyed hearing lots of different voices, including Prey, Hvorostovsky, Milnes, Terfel and more. I enjoy total artistry, unlike you. Wait til someone sneers at someone you love just for being old and sounding different. Domingo stays, you go.
How many times did I see Domingo on the stage? I can’t count it all. Every time was a thrill: Otello, Hoffmann, Tosca, Boheme, everything. So it hurts me to say that this is dreadful. An amateur. His eyes are glued to the score, his sustained notes are hoarse. WHY, Placido? You were one of the greatest artists.

Qué opinión cuestionable! Plácido comenzó cantando como barítono, luego pasó al repertorio de tenor. Es cierto que Warner escribió el rol para Barítono dramático pero alguien puede decir que este maravilloso fragmento está mal cantado?
@@ritacontino6841 Wolfram is for a lyric baritone but any baritone can easily sing it. Domingo‘s voice has no timbre of baritone any more, and because he cannot sing the tenor any more should not mean that he dives into the baritone repertoire again. It is possible, of course, and when someone likes it, why not. But Baritone is a specific color of voice which Domingo surely does not show in this case

Absolutely - though to be fair this 2013 performance is not as effortful and labored as what he has inflicted on us since.
Noname morons should stop writing bullshit in internet. Domingo’s voice is still amazing and he sing this aria outstanding. When he was The Tenor he performed Wagner better than any other singers (then and now), his voice is superb for heroic roles. If you don’t understand opera - it’s your problem, no reason to declare your ignorance)

The idea that Domingo's Wagner "was better than any other singers then and now" presumably including such legendary heldentenors as Melchior, Jon Vickers, or even James King is so utterly delusional that I don't even know where to begin. He could at least have made a greater effort to at least pronounce German properly. And of course this aria has been performed far more effectively by Weikl, Mattei, Fischer-Dieskau, Finley etc. etc. etc.

Of course this particular aria was performed better by Dieskau, but talking about nowadays, nobody can outperform Domingo as baritone (lack of technique, lack of taste, lack of acting etc). Vickers, Melchior and King were great, but Domingo’s voice is universal and he can sing everything: Verdi (early and late), Rossini, Donizetti, Tschaikowski (his russian pronounce was even better than Hvorostovsky..), Mascagni, Bizet (Nadir’s aria), zarzuela, tango etc etc - it makes his Wagner 10 times more interesting than Vickers, Melchior and others
Placido Domingo était visiblement enrhumé ce jour-là, cela s'entend dans la formation de certaines notes ; je pense en outre que ce répertoire n'est pas fait pour lui, malgré sa voix notoirement connue.
Dear Mr Domingo, you were a great singer and you have given the world your soul, but noeäw.. please stop.... our of tune at the beginning, you need a diction coach so badly, your voice breaks, you are running out of breath.... you are old, nothing wrong with that, but give young singers a chance, please know when you have to retire.
