I love it when you make actual booktube content (your funny stuff is great too). You're always reading stuff that I don't see anyone else talking about.
And "don't read a book you don't want to" is honestly amazing advice. I know I've historically read books that I 'should' read rather than what I want.

I haven't read him in years but Block is great. It's surprising he gets so little attention these days -- he's very good, very prolific, and was a big bestseller in the 80s and 90s. The Matt Scudder and Bernie Rhodenbarr series are both worth your time.
For French noir, I recommend Jean-Claude Izzo - American suspense meets Feench existentialism, sort of.

Other book tubers: read latest popular novel, get bullied into reading one piece, does reviews of latest popular thing and also one piece, rinse and repeat
THIS book tuber: absurdist memes, book review sometimes, more (brilliant) memes, hasn't read one piece, hasn't read latest popular books, reads and reviews obscure French novels, no one pleased, existential dread, square space ad, starts second channel, tries one piece, realizes it's too long, becomes alcoholic, does 9 part skit series involving murder of fake alias, more French novels, no one piece, starts wheel of time, never finishes, more alcohol, more existential dread, we see memes, we laugh at memes, it puts the French novel on its skin or else it gets the one piece again, second channel success, too much pressure, camp fire blaze ad, raid shadow legends, not the game app... HE is the legend of shadows this raid speaks of, challenges Daniel Green to duel, gets arrested, eternal existential dread, external 5 o clock shadow, checks reddit, becomes one with reddit, still gets downvoted, negative karma on reddit, destroys reddit with power of French novel reading and also memes, calls up wife for date, goes out to eat, reads French novel in public, sees longtime fan, longtime fan sees French novel, fan shakes head in disgust, wife quietly slips away to go home, fan not pleased, assaults long time fan, flees from scene, didn't tip the waitress, waitress was Daniel Green in disguise all along, runs car off side of cliff (not Daniel... M.C.T. goes off cliff, Daniel works full shift as waitress even though bit is over... genuinely enjoys it... this becomes his life now instead of book tube), back to cliff scene, cliff is very high, would have died on impact but stack of Sanderson novels breaks fall, meets Sanderson to thank him for saving his life, Sanderson has seen the memes, isn't pleased, Sanderson shakes head in Sander-disgust, worst disgust of all, challenges Sanderson to Sander-duel, no escaping wrath of the Sanderson... cliff hanger (no pun intended).... to be continued, continues with Sanderson in a cheap mask meant to look like Man Carrying Thing on M.C.T.'s channel, no one can tell difference, NORD VPN ad, Sanderson in fact a man NOT carrying anything, no more Sanderson novels, this is Sanderson's life now, title card: ten years later, unknown man in small countryside town in Italy, unknown man is sitting in corner booth at diner, his face obscured by open novel, it's a French novel, lowers novel, guess who is still alive?!, makes memes but in real life, people think he's crazy, gets arrested, gets released, 5 year revenge plot on Sanderson, takes back the channel, recovers from alcoholism, wife nods head in NOT disgust but delight!, they embrace, later wife finds stash of French novels in sock drawer, "I thought we were over this!", "not mine! Holding them for friend!", "don't lie! These are autographed and dedicated to: Man Carrying Thing!", doesn't know what to say, campfire blaze ad, gets arrested, title card: 6 years later, to be continued....??, no, no it won't be...
And that's the story of how I met your mother...
