How to protect your tankless during a storm and how to temporally power it.

- Here in Florida, we get a lot of storms where we lose power and when the utility company restores the power we get surges. A few years ago, during a Hurricane after the power was restored in a few neighborhoods we had over 45 PC boards fry due to power surges.
So, when I install all my exterior unites because interior unites come with a plug, I wire all my unites with a pigtail that I plug into a GFI outlet within use cover.
I instruct all my customers to unplug the unit during a long power failure. Then wait a few minutes after the power is restored to plug the unit back in.
As I said in the video you can power the tankless Like I do with a portable generator buy you can also use some type of battery or booster that has a 110-volt power supply.
Just remember if you going to keep a battery backup connected to your tankless it has to be one with pure sign waves.

Good tips! My tankless has been running off solar power for the last 7 years. It's plugged into my solar power inverter and that powers the heater day and night.
Awesome video!!! why can't we use a gfci receptacle?
Yes there are so many negatives to a tankless unit now that we have heat pump units we need to rethink the need yes endless hot water but a fried circuit board and longer delay for hot water without a circ pump not the problem solver it was thought to be and burnin that fossil fuel
Great advice about using a generator!
I didn't know that you should start it up and then after a few minutes plug in appliances.
Thanks!
Hello I have a brand new rinnai tankless water I installed. The units blower keeps turning Off and on. It's a solid light, so it indicates water flow and flame present. Except I have no water running and no leaks. What do you think could be the issue? Any help is appreciated.
Are your isolation valves set properly? Have you verified water flow by disconnecting the inlet and outlet? I can open the pressure relief on my unit and get to turn on and flow. I assume it's a water flow or a flame sense issue. Maybe tech suport can walk you through trouble shooting to figure out what it is. Do you have a DMM and know how to use it?
