    Two goals Ballard identified pre-Draft : 1)- Add more explosiveness ; 2)- Protect Anthony Richardson. Check. Check. Don't forget the impact on the Corners that Latu will bring. Quarterbacks won't have time to survey the entire field with that big horse breathing down their neck. Plus he'll free up his linemates to pressure the QB as well. Let's see if your Draft grade improves from a 'B' at the end of the season.

    I think it’s a blessing in disguise that the Colts didn’t get Bowers. The dynamics changed that allowed the Colts to pick Latu and Mitchell.

      I'd imagine they would just from the standpoint of injuries. Now that most of us can sleep easier at night, we can all realize that depth piece could be the real issue b/c development will come, no doubt

    Best draft I’ve seen so far! Able to secure the best pass rusher without moving, getting a super weapon in the second, bolstering the OL room, adding impact players to special teams, S depth and Nickel depth addressed with a sneaky LB depth pick. Finished with a RAS DLine to absorb some special teams work. What some wanted was a premium CB but we only need that if we had nobody to develop and we have a bunch of guys who can play up to that level and depth to allow players to flourish in their old roles or new ones. A+ - Latu, AD, Gould, are explosive impact players Day 1 with Goncalves and Bortolini giving us that young edge on the Oline and prevents the Luck problem for years to come. The kid from Marshall balls OUT, tbh these dudes got some mainstream ass takes. That Simpson pick is also another developmental corner pick if they wanted to and Micah Abraham is a beast no matter the size of the dude it’s about the size of the fight! Just watch the tapes on these picks, makes me think the rest of the league isn’t investing in draft prospects

    I gave an A- due to Ballard not touching DB until the back half of the draft. He did really well overall and we finally got a star pass rusher. Hopefully we can get a good FA corner and safety.

    I do think the need for CB is a bit overstated. Just remember that they were basically all rookies back there last year. The rookies were in large part decent, and the big breakdowns weren't usually because they didn't have the physical ability to stay in position, but rather breakdowns in communications. They were rookies, it happens. I think that a full season of play and an offseason of training and studying and another full training camp of working together will seriously elevate their performance. Dallis Flowers being back will likewise help, he was looking pretty good until he went down.
    I don't know if that'll make it GOOD, but I think it'll be better than you seem to expect.
    As far as the double OL choices, I think it also is worth considering that this might be drafting for next year. After this season, both Kelly and Fries will be free agents. These two guys are not just insurance, but they're heirs apparent for those two positions, who will have time to get trained up before they truly need to start a whole season. But in the meantime, good depth that can play across the line.

    • @thecoltscast
      @thecoltscast  3 місяці тому

      Nice breakdown. You may be right, it was just my preference to give them a B for the lack of CB talent targeted in the draft. Our group could turn up next season and that’s good too. Nonetheless, we should be fine!

  • @wyattlaw4952

    I think Ballard rolls with his young group of Corners, but spends some serious $ on a top notch veteran Safety (Simmons). Makes no sense to me to just dick around with a lower tier player when going top shelf solidifies the back end of our secondary. That would make the Defense as solid as the Offense. Let's GO !!

    • @thecoltscast
      @thecoltscast  3 місяці тому

      Hmm halfway agree here. I do believe that having a strong 4 in our front is awesome and elevates the defense in our scheme. However, I viewed the need for an outside day 1 impact corner a little higher than a rotational edge (just a tad bit higher). I am reminiscent of when we had Stephen Gilmore for a year and he won us the game on quite a few games when it came down to the final drive. A legit lockdown corner. We missed that last season

  • @alexcastillo9252

    We drafted O-line because we have way too much money invested in aging players that can't stay healthy... have to protect Richardson at all costs... I think Ballard will sign a proven safety , CB, or both in FA...

  • @chettmen783
    @chettmen783 3 місяці тому

    I would give him a B+ to A- just because of the first 2 picks. I knew he would add in line depth at some point, so that wasn't surprising. Also with the way the run on corners went ahead of our picks typically in rounds 3-5. I can see them going well lets not reach here and address it using FA instead. Would be very surprised if he didn't add in at least one DB in free agency now that the draft is done.

    • @thecoltscast
      @thecoltscast  3 місяці тому

      Respect that. Yeah I expect a signing sooner or later for CB. S probably too

    • @chettmen783
      @chettmen783 3 місяці тому

      Yeah I really want both a CB and S help, but NGL with the way Ballard spoke about the current DB group in the draft presser. I felt like there might be a decent percentage he doesn't add more to the group. I hope I'm wrong though, and learned his mistake with WR group last year with how he initially thought it was good enough but young before injuries hit it. I've always thought you got to have a good mix of vets and young prospects not one or the other.

  • @Yim_093
    @Yim_093 3 місяці тому

    The cb group in this years draft wasn’t very deep. A lot of people are saying that taking one past round 1 or 2 would’ve been a reach compared to what else was available in the later rounds. I think Ballard knew this and that’s exactly why the Buckner extension happened. I believe we will be signing a vet before long. This draft was an A.

    • @thecoltscast
      @thecoltscast  3 місяці тому

      It very well could’ve been a reach. This is why I hate giving grades out because it really doesn’t matter until a year or so from now when we can truly evaluate those players. We were happy with the EDGE pick! We hammered this in our Laiatu Latu video. It’s just corner was (in our opinion) a big need. I think we will be just fine come September!

      @@thecoltscast I'm not disagreeing. I wanted one too. But give me the pass rusher if I had to choose. DE is a top 3 premium position and he takes pressure off of Paye so he can run stuff and be an athletic solid pass rusher. I'd still love to add Simmons or trade a mid rd pick for a solid starting CB on someone else's roster though

    I'm fairly disappointed in the draft, based on what I thought our needs were. However, based on how the draft played out Im not sure i have a solid argument against the selections made.
    1) ED almost always takes precedence over everything other than Q, and is a coin flip with T. I wanted Q Mitchell, I really wanted a trade back at 15 given the situation we were in. However, if Latu pans out, it's a good choice. Or as some of the idiot fans would suggest, taking a swing. He was literally the 1st defensive player taken and considered the best pass rusher. Hard to argue against.
    2) All the CBs that could have improved our team from camp on, were taken before we could pick, as was Edge Cooper. The trade-back was very smart, don't settle on the next best position guy. AD Mitchell had fallen about as far as his talent level would allow. I don't think we needed a WR until rounds 4-5. But this is a smart pick.
    3) I think you may be a bit hard on Matt Goncalves. Had he not had the big toe issue last year he would have had a much higher grade. Easily a round 2 guy had he played most of the season.
    4) Ballard loves Wisconsin guys? We have 1 guy from Wisconsin. 2, after Bortolini signs. Why do you guys keep saying shit like this? We have as much 'love' for Hawaii guys, and if you consider the transfer that Laulu did, an even higher representation of rainbow warriors
    Keep it up fellas, you are on your way to surpassing some of the other Colt-centric shows, so long as you dont follow them.

    How Draft works per round!
    Round 1 picks are based on: Immediate Transitional Production
    Round 2 picks are based on: next level Evaluation
    Round 3 picks are based on: Depth
    Round 4/5/6 picks are based on: Raw or unpolished talent with upside
    I can explain

  • @tomboone6064

    I think they’re going to sign a vet FA corner, I mean they kinda have to. Since they saved some cap space on the Buckner deal they definitely have the $$. It would be completely negligent of Ballard to run out the guys they have now. Considering how the DBs are typically decimated half way through the season they have no choice really. They have to do it now on a 1-2 yr deal before they start losing guys because of the high salary of an elite QB, hopefully it’s AR but I guess we’ll all find out together
