      @@DireWilk they do cut out the beginning when it's twitch vods that they upload on youtube, but when they stream on youtube i guess it's not worth the effort to take the whole 2 hour vod from youtube, put it into an editing program and then export it and put it back on youtube just to get rid of a bit at the beginning when the alternative is to just release it on youtube with one click (that's just how i think it probably works lol, i don't have any actual experience with this stuff)

    I think a con of the "personality based content" that people sometimes overlook is that it is the one that mess with people's mental health the most.
    In this style of content, you are the content, you are the service you're selling, it's way easier to tie personal value and your mental stability with your earnings and failures, which could be even worse in a somewhat unstable career, like UA-cam.
    That's why there are so many more personality based UA-camrs taking breaks and showing how much their UA-cam career affected their mental health.
    (sorry if my English is kinda broken, I learned it on my own🙃)

    • @juriepica1174
      @juriepica1174 2 роки тому +25

      Your English is good! Also, I feel that this also applies to negative comments feeling more hurtful because you put more of yourself into the content you create.

      @moonie2353 2 роки тому +15

      this totally makes sense! the line between you the person and you the creator may be blurred, especially in the eyes of your viewers. i feel like personality-focused content is also the kind that more easily facilitates the forging of the parasocial relationship between creator and viewer which isn't necessarily always a bad thing! these communities can be fun and supportive. creators and audiences alike can benefit from these sorts of connections. however, because your content is basically YOU, sometimes audiences feel empowered enough to believe that they truly know you, that they are your friend and that they can behave and speak to you as if they were (e.g., being rude and insulting creators because "that's how i am with friends!"; constantly bringing up jokes that the creators had expressed they were uncomfortable with because "that can't be true! this is an inside joke with my friend!"). audiences can and have crossed boundaries and creators may have a tough time reestablishing them without (some of) their audience feeling betrayed or robbed of the initial feeling of intimacy that drew them in. it's definitely tough to navigate and takes work on both ends. i don't envy creators in that regard at aaallll

    • @raffpax
      @raffpax 2 роки тому +8

      @@moonie2353 That is so true! the parasocial relationship nightmare stories famous UA-camrs tell are terrifying. That is not to say that Jacob's view of this line of content isn't right, I just felt like this needed to be said for someone out there.

    The Jenny Nicholson vs Drawfee view comparison is also interesting because she has less subscribers, but often her videos get more views than her subscriber count. Then Drawfee gets roughly 1/5 views to subscriber count per video. But they both add up to roughly the same amount of views per month.

    this was just briefly mentioned, but as a kpop Stan, the view counting comes down to a science lol. you have to watch at least 3 videos in between rewatches (that add up to 10 min or a couple of longer videos), the other videos you watch have to be from a different channel, and you have to sit thru at least 30 seconds of the ads. it also can't be in an automatic playlist, and you have to organically search for it. getting ppl to click via shared link seems to be one of the best ways to gain a view. (esp with youtube changing these rules a bit recently). also anything with the word "kid" or related to children actually affects the search results and views b/c of yt's child safe regulations or w/e 🙄

    They touched on it a little bit, but I'd like to hear more about how creating content for a company or brand differs from creating independently -- how it influenced how they generated video ideas, how much they were (or had to be) aware of the analytics, and how they might imagine the process may look without that infrastructure already in place.
    Note: not looking for CH tea or anything, but more of the "I know that having {x} managers/departments in place afforded us to do {y} and/or have {z}, which I probably would've accounted for if I had been doing it from 0"
    Or "having worked within a company gave us some special insights when going independent that we probably wouldn't have considered if we'd just started independent"
    I guess I want to hear more about where the "mileage may vary" and the pros & cons of different *routes* into UA-cam (ex: if you like making content but know you don't have a mind for the business side, you may want to try to be hired somewhere for it or go in from the jump with someone with those skills -- or something.)
    Does that make sense?
    I hope that made sense.

      I think they're Porta Pro On Ear Headphones from Koss Stereophones (Jacob & Julia were asked about them on stream a while ago)

    I also legit couldn't get the "looking at a screen I'm not drawing on" thing Nathan has. Pen display tablets worked best for me. 😅

    UA-cam Premium views are more valuable.
    Viewers who watch ads in their entirety generate more money.
    Viewers who skip ads generate zero money.
    Views, as a result, have differing values depending on who the viewer is and the type of viewer they are.

      This was
      livestreamed with the link given to patreon supporters at the time a month ago. Such streams are made public a month after they happen.
