Another great comparison! Beautifully played! Very dreamy. You sound wonderful on all three of them. But the tone of the Buescher seems to be a little thinny compared to the other two. Both the Selmer and Conn have more body to the tone where the Selmer is more articulate and seems to be more projecting. The Conn appears to have the thickest and warmest tone. Just my personal impression ofcourse. The Steelay works great on the Selmer too. That said I think the video you did of the Buescher with the Otto Link was more impressive and hits its sweet spot. All three of them are wonderful horns for sure.

thank you for listening. it's true, steelay and buescher is not the best combination because otherwise it gets too extreme, the sound thins out, the buescher is rich enogh without a steelay i need the otto link to give the buescher edge and body. its crazy the selmer sounds not so good with the metal otto link...

Whoa, you make that Steelay sound like a classic rubber Link. I always found the stock Conns didn't let me shade the tone that much - just play big dark "sweet band tenor." They also give me more problems on Buescher tenors than on Conns.

I find a Conn Steelay in original condition is richer and have a better facing work the rarest is the benny bonacio model

@@JeromeMaatz They were hand faced to Benny's spec. I had (or have) a clarinet piece like that (#2). Very smooth playing but a little close tipped for me.

Very nice tone! I have a Selmer Model 28 alto in my collection. I own several Conn New Wonder altos, and a tenor that is in really rough shape that I got for $40! Even with destroyed pad it still can play! I have a True Tone tenor from 1925 that has a strange octave pip with four small holes, like a salt shaker. Thanks for the video.

Let's hear him play uptempo and outside before we say that. That's what will prove the 20s & 30s tenors as instruments, not just as a refuge for easygoing balladeers.
