This interview took place Summer 2009 just prior to Judge White's September ruling in favor of Frank Morton, and the other plaintiffs. See related video on CUpS: Monsanto v. Geerston Seed Farms: The Supreme Court Alfalfa Decision
In an ongoing David versus Goliath legal battle, Frank Morton, an organic seed breeder in Philomath, Oregon, along with the plaintiffs listed in this lawsuit, have successfully sued the USDA and its Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), for failure to require an environmental impact statement (EIS) prior to deregulation of Monsanto's Roundup Ready sugar beet plant. In the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, Judge Jeffrey S. White ruled on September 21, 2009 in favor of the plaintiffs- Center for Food Safety, Organic Seed Alliance, Sierra Club, and High Mowing Organic Seeds- requiring that APHIS prepare an environmental impact statement, and setting in place the remedy phase of the trial, scheduled to begin today (December 4) to decide the fate of next year's transgenic sugar beet crop.

We really need to stop playing god and except the earth and it's bounty as the good Lord gave it to us!
Intersting and vital information that should be passed on to countries that produce these products that are imported to the USA.
We can all assist in helping david beat Goliath!!! Goliath is nothing compared to the combined power of the consumer. Vote with your forks :)
Fantastic victory for GMO labeling of alfalfa; now if only we can get all GMO products labeled!!
Good news for those of us concerned about the future of our food.
Thanks for sharing this with us.
Excellent video - thank you for posting
3:04 Here's my thought, a few corporations want to rule what is grown, going so far as to suggest it be illegal to grow anything but their hybrid plant. So far we have these people on the front lines. I've sat through several in the playlist and no mention not even a request for money. Kudos. But I would hope those than can help, do. It's really a personal battle we should take seriously. If we fail to make a choice then corporation will make a choice for us.
Unfortunately, on July 19, 2012 the USDA announced their decision to deregulate genetically engineered sugar beets, having done the environmental impact study mentioned in this video. Skeptics regarding the hazards or GMOs should check out the work of Vandana Shiva. The David vs. Goliath battle continues...
@CouldNotCareLes definition of economical is ... example: look at current food bubble, the speculation on food and those areas in which large scale ag. you will see a correlation to impoverished people as a larger economic sector. In other words, the food insecure have grown as their staple ag crops get rotated out to provide for consumption by the speculators etc. Your argument is predicated on an economic model of disenfranchisement of women and children. overpopulation, lack of infrastructure
