- Like air transmits sound waves, aether is a theoretical substance in physics believed to transmit electromagnetic waves.
According to ancient and medieval science, aether was the fifth element or quintessence that filled the universe beyond the terrestrial sphere.
A luminiferous aether or ether was postulated as the medium for light propagation.
The word luminous means "light-bearing."
In order to explain the fact that light propagated through empty space (a vacuum), which waves should not have been able to do, this theory was invoked. In order to provide the necessary theoretical medium for light, wave theories assumed a spatial plenum rather than a spatial vacuum.
Since it required the existence of an invisible material that did not interact with physical objects, the aether hypothesis was the subject of considerable debate throughout its history. During the 19th century, as the light was explored, the physical properties required of the aether became increasingly contradictory. Despite the fact that the aether had not been replaced by a physical theory by the late 1800s, its existence was questioned.
Michelson-Morley's unsuccessful experiment (1887) suggested that aether does not exist, a conclusion that was confirmed by subsequent experiments through the 1920s.
It led to considerable theoretical work to explain the propagation of light without an aether. The theory of relativity provided a partial answer but was widely interpreted as suggesting that it was not required.
As well as the blackbody radiator and photoelectric effect, the Michelson-Morley experiment was a key experiment in the development of modern physics, which includes both relativity and quantum theory.
Once again, what are you using. What are the EXACT MATERIALS used in this exact video. What are you doing with these magnets. And don’t just tell me “energy is everywhere!!” I want an actual response to the question
