  • I got Starlink this week, in spite of my obstructions, it is definitely out performing my previous NBN connection. In this video, I show how I've set it up with pfsense and Unifi equipment.
Starlink router connects to VLAN30 on my network, then PFSense picks up an IP address from the Starlink router and I route all of my traffic via the Starlink service instead of NBN.
Obligatory NBN history rant included at the start of this video.

Very good review mate. Higher latency but better speeds, much better. Considering it myself and we have trees, kind of similar to yours. Just the efficiency of starling service seems enticing. NBN is a bureaucratic mess, our box blew 5 weeks ago and still haven’t got a new one. You received yours in 4 days.

Thanks mate. Yeah, NBN burnt me bad at the start of this year:

It's always been shocking, and I did get a quote for the FttP upgrade. But it was ~$33,000 at the time, which is obviously completely out of reach for 99.8% of everyone. So this has been on my list of things to consider for a while now. It was really the inability to join modern meetings that pushed me over the edge. Sucks to have extra latency, but it's such a relief to have a functional connection to the internet.

Place the starlink in bypass mode. Why double nat?
CGNAT is bad enough without doing double nat as well.

Yeah, I initially just left it so that I could connect directly to the Starlink routers wifi for setup and testing purposes. But I should just bypass it now that everything else is setup.
