Unfortunately the thing everyone misses is mental strength where they fall short. The evidence being all their penalty shoot out losses and a penalty missed against France at last WC and other examples.
England have never had an issue with ability. Now they have the team togetherness but it's mental strength under pressure where they fall short against the big sides and the sad thing is there is no simple solution to it.
It's just years and years of failure combined with intense media pressure that causes it.
The likes of Germany and Italy manage well under those pressure moments. England just dont.
Would love to be wrong but likely I'm not.
It will end up being another penalty incident or HIGH pressure moment where England bottle it
Despite some poor tactics against Italy in 2021 and France last WC, had they been able to handle those moments they could have ended up with a trophy and so many other close points over history. But they didnt.

Pickford is a prime example of the bias that people have towards players who play in the Premier League big 6. Because he plays for Everton, there were people who pushed an agenda that Pickford wasn’t good enough to be England’s number one goalkeeper. It’s down to the fact that people don’t watch games outside of the traditional top 6 teams in the premier league. He’s not as bad as people think he is as he had a great season for Everton as he had the 2nd most clean sheets in the Premier League on a weaker team and he has performed well in an England shirt too.

Starting Harry Maguire means that we have two very slow CBs who cannot keep up with pacey attackers, and it also means that you are leaving Branthwaite, Konsa, Gomez and Tomori on the bench, all of whom are better players than Maguire. Also can we talk about this bias against players playing outside of England? Tomori is one of the Serie A's best CBs and is the pacey left footed CB that we need, but Southgate doesn't pick him because he plays outside of England.

    @tobaepebinuade5830 13 днів тому +2

In my opinion, the EUROs is massively big for Harry Kane’s legacy in the way in which we perceive him. There’s no denying how good he is from a talent perspective an average player wouldn’t have 400+ goals in his career for club and country and he’s a world class striker probably the best number 9 in the world currently, but at the age of 30 he remains the greatest player to have never won a trophy. At the highest level, silverware has continued to elude him and that’s made him a laughingstock around social media as fans believe he has a “trophy curse”. It’s not his fault as the game is a team sport, but how can someone who’s this good a goalscoring machine combined with how well rounded he is as a striker have not win anything that’s right not a single trophy in his career. He spent most of his career at Tottenham and while they weren’t contenders for the Premier League title, their teams weren’t that bad and we forget that he had chances to win silverware there and didn’t. I also think that his best ever teammate was Heung Min Son and even though on the England national team he played with much better players and is the top scorer ever, again won nothing there.
This summer we all thought that his trophy drought would come to an end and that move to Bayern Munich made sense for his career even though you can question the timing of his transfer. Everyone said that he needed to leave Tottenham to win trophies he did that and joined Bayern Munich in pursuit of team success because in a season they’re guaranteed to win at least 1 trophy and it looked as if he’d win the Bundesliga very easily since they won the league in 11 consecutive years. Even though it’s not really his fault and he’s not at blame for the season that they had because he scored a lot of goals and Leverkusen were unbeatable this season, the reality is that with his presence in the team, Bayern Munich had their first trophyless season since 2012 as he lost his first ever game for them and their dominance in the Bundesliga finally came to an end once and for all and won nothing in other competitions. His bad luck with trophies has shown no signs of ending even at Bayern Munich who are used to winning trophies every season. As we speak, he bottled another chance of winning a trophy since Bayern Munich finished 3rd in the Bundesliga, they won’t be playing against Bayer Leverkusen in the German Super Cup at the start of next season. Unless England wins the EUROs this summer, he’ll have to wait until 2025 to win his first trophy and at this rate there’s a possibility that Bayern Munich have back to back trophy less seasons. He literally turned Bayern Munich into Tottenham in the very first season he joined. As they say you can take a man out of Tottenham but you can’t take Tottenham out of them, it’s not that funny since it’s not even his fault. Whether you like him or not you have to feel for Kane as he can’t catch a break when it comes to trophies and whether it’s the EUROs, he needs at least 1 trophy as he’s too good to still be trophy less at this stage of his career.

@heppolo I don't think so, they're not the same players & England has some good influences in the squad like Walker & Kane to keep the younger players in check. Not just how good England's team is but others like Germany, Italy & Spain aren't as good as they once were. At home & infront vs Italy & their ageing defence last euros that England team should've been able to put them to the sword with a bit of ambition & aggression, certainly should've been able to finish them off in extra time but Southgate chose to see it out & brought on young, inexperienced players to take penalties & not surprising they all missed. And surely it's better to go out on their shields than risk the lottery of penalties vs a more experienced Italy with their goalkeeper who has an excellent record of saving penalties.
Compare him to Lippi in 2006 who instead of sitting back vs Germany & taking them on at penalties in their own country brought on attacking players to stretch their defence & look to settle the game before penalties, his bravery worked, sometimes you gotta take a chance, vs Croatia & Italy Southgate chose not to take a chance & kill the game off with a 2nd goal but sit back & protect a 1 goal lead, both times that back fired & unless he's brave and takes the game to the opposition England will not win this euros, they'll be the usual quarters or semis at a push.

Despite some injury concerns and doubts over a couple of players or 2, there is some optimism surrounding the England national team at the EUROs and they have no excuses to come up short at another major tournament. It is make or break for Gareth Southgate and England at the EUROs as in recent tournaments they come so close but so far and this time around they have to go all the way. This is a squad full of talented players it’s relatively young it has some experience combined with the fact that they have some of the core of that Manchester City team who nowadays are used to winning a trophy after a couple of months. Going into this tournament, Harry Kane Jude Bellingham Bukayo Saka Cole Palmer and Phil Foden are coming off the back of stellar seasons at their respective clubs, but with the plethora of talent that they have at their disposal, Gareth Southgate faces a challenge that many other managers mind find it difficult to deal with. The biggest talking point among fans and pundits surrounding the England national team is “what’s their best starting lineup” and for the manager, every game causes a selection headache. Kane Bellingham Foden Saka and Rice are all guaranteed to start, but depending on the formation in their attack and midfield, who starts alongside them as there’s one available spot next to them. Having a lot of competition is good for a team as it keeps the players on their toes when they’re fit knowing that you have to perform otherwise you won’t play, but is it an issue that England doesn’t know their best XI or is it a good thing.
With the form that Cole Palmer has been in this season, it’s difficult to leave a player like him out of the starting lineup and with Saka likely to start on the right wing, Palmer might be deployed as a number 10 where he pushes Bellingham very deep in midfield next to Rice. If you want to play a midfield of Bellingham Rice and Foden, you need another player on the left wing and maybe Ollie Watkins or Anthony Gordon would be a surprise starter. Even though he’s not had a great season, Jack Grealish might be a surprise starter even if Southgate doesn’t always fancy him. What about Kobbie Mainoo, at the age of 18, I think he’s already good enough to start for the national team and that’s saying something about him and Southgate has to give him significant minutes and he might be another extra option in the midfield next to Rice if Bellingham is playing as a number 10 behind Kane. They have Trent Alexander Arnold listed as a midfielder and does he get a start in that position. What about their defense, John Stones and Harry Maguire are injury prone and could that young Everton defender start over one of them, their only natural left back Luke Shaw is going into this tournament nowhere close to full fitness and what do they do in that situation, Kyle Walker is guaranteed to start at right back, what do you do change the formation go with Kieran Trippier at LB Joe Gomez or they start Shaw. He’s also shown a bit of ruthlessness in his squad with people criticizing him for picking players who are out of form over ones who should be in the squad. He’s dropped the likes of Marcus Rashford Raheem Sterling Kalvin Phillips and Jordan Henderson showing that he wants to win now and for the ones who aren’t playing well or even playing at all, he’s not selecting players who did well for him in the past. Regardless of who’s healthy or what starting lineup they pick, it doesn’t matter because England have more than enough talent to make it deep in this tournament and there’s no excuses if they can’t win the EUROs especially since they have some of the most in form players in the world and a guy who’s seen as a potential Ballon Dor winner.

England have never had an issue with ability. Now they have the team togetherness but it's mental strength under pressure where they fall short against the big sides and the sad thing is there is no simple solution to it.
It's just years and years of failure combined with intense media pressure that causes it.
Germany and Italy seem to handle those pressure moments well, but England just don't.

They failed to qualify for major tournaments, or got knocked out in group stages, by teams like Norway and Iceland.
Young fans don't realise that it's taken a revolution at St George's Park, and youth development, in which Gareth Southgate has played a major role, to get England to the point of contending for tournament success.

At club level, he’s won nothing with Tottenham for many years and even at Bayern Munich a team that’s been guaranteed to win trophies in the last 12 years, the first season he joined, went trophy less again and has also won nothing with his country as well. You have him in his prime who came off the best season of his career at Bayern Munich playing alongside the likes of Phil Foden Jude Bellingham Cole Palmer Bukayo Saka Declan Rice Kobbie Mainoo Trent Alexander Arnold etc quality players who’ve had great seasons with their respective clubs they’re young or going into their prime, and what if with that team, you still win nothing internationally. With the team that England has going into the EUROs, Harry Kane has no excuses if he goes empty handed again. In major tournaments for England he hasn’t been bad to be honest as he’s been good here and there, sometimes he has started off slow then pick up form and then when it comes to these big games, he doesn’t necessarily produce and this has been a regular occurrence from Kane throughout his career and he seems to be the only superstar who gets the most excuses when his team doesn’t win.
The whole team around him has to be good, he in general has to step up as even if he scores a lot of goals if they don’t win, he’ll get the blame, if he doesn’t show up in the latter stages of the tournament after stat padding in the group as we’ve seen from him in his international career not just at club level, he’ll get crucified In a system the team is all about Kane where everything in that team revolves around him and you have to play off of him and he is the team meaning that in these big games he has to show up otherwise they’re screwed. He’s more of a deep lying striker who doesn’t stay in the penalty box as he drops deep tried to get involved in the game and there’s an importance of his teammates to try and give him service in the right area because he won’t use his pace to outrun defenders as he wants the ball at his feet and that’s his playing style and he thrives like that. We’ve seen this with Tottenham England and now Bayern Munich his team goes as far as he takes them. The way he plays kinda holds him and his teams back and he doesn’t push them over the line in big games. At the end of the day, Kane is a world class striker and you look at his stats for club and country every year and you wonder “man this guy is an unbelievable player and he is the one who always carries his team”, if he’s so good, despite his stats, why isn’t he winning anything as him being good statistically hasn’t reflected into trophies.
