Outdated? Garen tactic is so simple yet very effective. Easiest champ to farm safe, don't even need jungle to gank, can never mess up combo.
He is not the easiest champ to farm safe at all. He needs to go in melee range and the champs that completely shit on him in melee wont spare him on those occasions. Garen is a prime example of such a champ. He is very safe to farm on if your enemy laner (despite being stronger) keeps afk shoving and you're allowed to freely farm under tower and scale

Apparently riste just starting posting videos on UA-cam again. He's a very high elo Garen player and he has gone into depth before about the difficulty of playing Garen further up the ranks and where the skill expression comes from (match-up do's/don't's, macro, etc.) since the simple kit gets exploited top lane more often by higher elo players.

Passive is kinda useless on its own early(until lv11) , but with second wind and Doran shield, it’s pretty damn good early.

Garen passive gets out sustained by so many champs its funny
garen can carry toplane by himself as long as you trade correctly. hitting level 8-11 increases your sustain so much it makes standing in top for 10 minutes trading until you can hit your R a possibility.
I recommend Ksante for the new players. It’s so easy 🥰

Garen is a fantastic champion for newbies, simple kit and good top laner, unfortunately other top laners have better kits if used well.
People say it's a no skill champion I do agree that he doesn't have skillshots but you really need to know how to play as Garen. Just because he doesn't have skillshots doesn't mean he takes absolute no skill to be good.
You will certainly have terrible matchups such as Kayle or trundle (yes I did had a trundle matchup before and it was awful in the current patch)
Again, it's always possible to win games with garen when you understand the fundamentals of league.
If possible, if you get really good with garen. You may be able to pull wins in the high elo, well. Every champ has a chance to be a good pick you just need to know how to play with as them vs your opponent matchup.
it does take absolutely no skill though, first timed him in rank and just obliterated my lane opponent.. his passive completely breaks the idea of trading itself too. it's a dumb champion

btw champs are not skilled bcs of skillshots. Spacing is the number 1 thing you look at to say a champ is skilled. Garen doesn't have a kit that need any spacing. That's why he's prob like top 5 easiest champ in the whole game
even champs like lulu are more skilled bcs they can space in lane, and actually have to think about spell order and doesn't have a predefinite combo that u copy paste 30 times per game
@@axel978 again even if spacing is important your most important thing to know is if you know you can win the matchup, every champ can be executed well if played well, common sense. Are you stronger than the opponent or not? Check stats and situation etc. even if garen is a no skill champ you still would need common sense to understand, you have pros and cons, bam.
Garen is the type of champion that should be, not these new champion their spells looks like you need a degree to understand what's going on...

I've went against a few master and GM players that were unfortunate enough to get counter picked by me and got absolutely wrecked. Even without divine sunderer, Camille mauls him. The matchup win rate speaks for itself.

Honestly seen a lvl 76 garen main yesterday , dude just shit on everyone he went mid, got a huge early lvl lead then just roamed from lvl 6 and on and just dominated the entire lobby

I like Daurius. That's how I learned top lane.
I find Garen > Darius > Renekton to be the best to learn top with.
It's like a spectrum, Garen is best for learning the game, renekton best for learning trades/combos/matchups, and Darius sorta in the middle.
And no e too difficult to play (though obviously Garen easiest)

I started as garen when I first learned league, then moved on to jaxxy. He just fit how I play more which is crazy, aggressive and tower dive 😂

Garen is my permaban. Cannot stand Laning against this guy. Garen mains using phase rush to stay on you + his passive for regen is just soul crushing. Even if you try to poke the passive off, you eventually run out of mana while he just has to wait. The 13.8 buffs made this lane so much worse too.
What do you play into Garen?
There are quite a few hard matchups, some unplayable.
Tahm Kench, Darius, Kennen, Mordekaiser, Kayle (yes kayle is hard to face especially post 6, early is bearable), Jax(if you dont kill him pre 6 its over), Olaf (unplayable like most other champs into him) and some more.
Unironically just play mord and w when he gets onto you, take ghost and run garen down.
I main Garen and always pick Mord as a counter, since he is so effective early with passive.
(And later with rylais giving you infinite sticking combined with passive)

@@nikolalazic3077 Kayle is a good one. Garen is a really good matchup for her after 6. The only way he kills you if is he flashes on you or if you dont keep your distance well enough. When he tries to run at you, you can just Q him for the slow and kite him and/or use W to run away aswell :)

i learned using minions to win lanes with yone, but with garen i learned a lot punishing enemy champs that is greedy to last hit creeps and freezing lane also surviving a gank
Mordekaiser is also pretty simple, R, Q, auto, they die.
All enemy has to do though is play Darius or Tahm Kench, and your "Garen OP" pick will feel useless.
Nah, they're playable. You q max phase rush into darius, eventually you beat him with short trades and sustain. With tahm you need cleaver second and also short trade, sustain, kill. But versing any decent Camille is pretty much auto lose lane for garen unless jungle camps the shit out of you.
I lose with Garen more than any other toplaner. I HAVE NO IDEA WHY ITS INFURIATING

The fact that mundo is not at least at s tier when you can literallly 1vs5 when fed. None else can 1vs5 cho is op but he gets too huge and everyone just runs away from you, darius and fiora are not tanky enough

Not much into champions who are waiting for a miracle to happen. Split pushers whoa re also versitile and can proxy is where it's at for me. Even if my entire team fails, to know that I can solo the game if played just right.

He is good in low ELO, but really bad in high. His W tenacity is useless against knockups, and most teams in high platinum do already have a ton of knockups.

Jax was legitimately a bad player.
Play safe vs Garen till 6 as Jax, you never lose later.
It basically just starts by underestimating him early and once you do that and he gets one kill under his belt he pretty much just runs at you and you're playing with only 60% of your Max HP at all times, lol.
Garen is one of Jax's hardest matchups.

How do I play Garen against PTA Teemo building on hit like Nashor, Riftmaker, Wits End. I can't really gap close even if I go Doran Shield + Tier 2 Boots first. I think Flash Ignite, Conqueror Cloak would be good but without the healing from Second Wind I will get absolute shit on even with D Shield. I didn't die till level 8 or something when they Herald dive me but I got gapped so much CS, even when jungler help me kill him 2 times he's still double my cs at 20min
Don't play garen Vs teemo. There are so few champs in the game that can be played Vs anyone
Give up cs, dont overpush, play around vision and oneshot him level 6 wirh ignite. If you play right he never gets to poke you out when you have dshield second wind

Ban teemo, teemo is the biggest counter to garen
but if you didn't ban teemo and you had to fight teemo, first of all, one of the strongest things in his kit is the blind shot it's color is purple, once he shots it press w when it almost hits you, it removes ALL the damage ( almost ) and removes the blind. get stridebreaker and dead man's plate. ( dead man's plate makes you so weirdly fast, stridebreaker can be casted and does a HUGE slow for 3 seconds )

I honestly hate this mentality of "garen is the easiest champion to learn top lane." So many champions that are more easier to learn and play the game. Such as urgot, mordekaiser, Yorick. As main top laner I suggest those three champs. Garen is good just not that good imo....
the reason people pick garen is because they have no actual skill, they rely on a terrible start of trying to ‘win’ trades and if they lose they sit under tower until they have enough hp to trade again
