    A really great Lied for Hotter. Even Fischer-Dieskau sings this in the original key. At least in the recording studio Dieskau managed all the low notes which surprised me. Quasthoff‘s rendition is also outstanding. Lots of examples of this wonderful Lied on You Tube & I am fortunate to have several versions myself. Thanks for posting this so others can discover & enjoy this Lied as well.

    Gerald Moore is not the pianist here. This is from "Grosse Sänger unseres Jahrhunderts" and the accompanist is Walter Martin, who was a conductor, pianist and accompanist.

    The profondo depths of this song held no terrors for Hotter by the time he made this recording. What a great artist he was. He had to have been a magnificent Elijah until his voice became too deep to sing that part.
